<<Re. BCC continued - Thanks for informing us of the bug. However, I still don't understand why it does happen when sending from the Psion via Demon Internet and Freeserve, but does not happen when using Compuserve>>
Possibly because CompuServe still uses a proprietary mail system, "CompuServe Mail", despite having implemented access via SMTP and POP3 protocols so that conventional internet email programs can be used with it. Remember the days when the separdomain had to be used to receive mail with a POP3 mail program?

Subject: Re: Modem Adapter / D&G Upgrades
Thank you all for your help on the modem adapter. I will see if any are available on Ebay.
Itamar, the init string that I set for the Travel modem is at&f, I think, according to the instructions that came in the box. Baud rate 19200, Flow control: Hardware, Terminal and Carrier detect both ticked. I always use landline. Normally, I have no problem connecting to the ISP. I get diconnected when 'connecting to mailbox'. My timeout is set at 3 mins. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
In any anyone is interested, I recently sent my Revo from Hong Kong to D&G Upgrades to increase the memory to 16mb. I received it back within one week. It was actually shipped out from London 2 days after D&G received it. Was very impressed by the excellent service.
Best regards,
Dick

I too find the IR Travel Modem extremely unreliable, which is a shame as it can be used with the Revo/S5/S7 which makes it the most versatile modem for all models. </quot;>
Well , if you can get on with the vast size and the need to use an external battery pack if AC/vehicle power is not available the 3Com USR Courier is an excellent choice Comes with an universal ( 90-270 Volts ) lightweight
mains adapter , should work anywhere , survives plugging in into a digital phone line
Have one in use with a SHARP Zaurus Classic 5800 , works like a charm , use 9600 or 19.200 serial port settings , you may go up to 57.600 for email and filexfers w nFTP or RMRftp With the proper scripts it should work with the Revo and 5mx/mc218 as well ( and netbook as well )

Psion made a modem cardholder to use modem cards withthe series 5. I have no idea where you could try and obtain one, mabey eBay and other auction sites ?
</quot;>
If you want to throw some time and money at it you can convert a CompaQ/HP iPaQ pocketpc with double-decker sleeve in an intelligent peripheral for your Psion that takes ALL types of 16-bits PCCards , not just modems Details at http://www.handhelds.org

Hi Guys,
Re 5mx production:
Further to Thomas van der Zijden's posting about the possible resumption of S5mx production. I was browsing through a copy of PDA Essentials in a bookshop yesterday and came across a foonote which said something to the effect that the S5mx would remain in production throughout 2002.

Subject: RE: Mako/Revo battery problems..AGAIN!
Hi everyone,
I have had my Mako for 9/10 months now and have always run the battery all the way down (single figures)before recharging overnight. I have the battery checker ChaDis but latley when charging the red light goes off within a minute and then trickle charges. It does not charge the battery at all but registers a current, usually -7mA.
A few times this was cured by a soft reset. Then that failed so hard resets followed. Now that won't work and it fails to charge AT ALL. If left on for 24 hrs it tells me that it is overcharging. My wife also has a Mako which I purchased at the same time and there are no problems with it at all, even though I have treated it in the same way. I can only conclude that there MUST be some sort of manufacturing fault along the way?
Is there anything I can do before I have the send it back to the USA for a warranty repair?
Thanks,
Andy Salmon

My thought for the day: Why bother with built in batteries at all??

Re. nConvert - I have succeeded in converting sheet files to excel, but they always need some readjusting in the excel file. I recently converted an Epoc picture to a picture in the RTF file and it worked well. Indeed, Lotus files are not recognised by this program, a pitty as I work extensively with Lotus.
Answer to: Kevin Thorne
Re. IR Travelmodem - I use it quite a lot these days. I note that most times after I used the phone connection it will take one misconnection before I get connected, but otherwise I find it reliable. What are the problems you encounter ?

Subject: Backing up a 9210 MMC to a S7
Here's an interesting question I've never seen asked before. I'm thinking of getting a Nokia 9210, along with a large MMC for on board storage. I don't have easy access to a PC for back up purposes but I was wondering if I could use my S7 for this i.e. is it possible to get an MMC to PC card adaptor, slot this into the PC card slot of the S7 then copy over the MMC contents to my S7? Should anything then happen to my original MMC or 9210 it should then be a simple matter to copy back the data from the S7 to another MMC. I would guess that some standard PC format files could be managed from the S7 as well e.g. html, jpg and such like, although obviously being ER6, apps like Agenda and Contacts couldn't be? Can anyone advise me or has anyone actually done this?

Howdy!

300mA works fine with an mx, but is NOT enough for the Mako / Revo. Get an adapter that is at least 500mA. Part of the electronics that govern charging in the Mako / Revo is a temperature sensor. With a 300mA adapter, the cells don't get hot enough to trigger the temperature sensor, so you end up overcharging. Also, the charging software gets confused because it doesn't actually measure charging current, it just assumes it's getting a full current fast charge, and adds up the charge indicator accordingly.
I use my Mako every day, and always charge it switched off. I plug it into the charger at night before I go to bed, and grab it and go in the morning. No problems.

Subject: Cheap Duracell Batteries in North London
I thought this info might be handy for North London based Psioneers! I
bought packs of 4 AA Duracell Ultra M3 for £1.30 yesterday at Wembley
market. I have seen the same stall there previously with the batteries at
this price so it wasn't a one-off.
There are lots of stalls there selling Duracell batteries and even though
they are all cheap this one stall in particular was a lot cheaper than
everywhere else. (for those interested , standing with the stadium behind
you the stall is about two thirds into the market, about one third across
from the right hand end of the market, and on the stadium side of the aisle
in which it is located!!)

according to my experience you have to reinstall all applications from Palmtop if you want to use it on another machine. Very annoying but understandable.

Subject: PsiLoc+ and AlarmPlus
Moshe,
PsiLoc+ and AlarmPlus do very different jobs.
AlarmPlus does a very good job of dealing with alarms (that explains the name!) whereas Psiloc+ only sets alarms as a minor function. It's major functions are manifold and as I'm (temporarily) disabled some of those functions are very useful but they're nearly all useful in one way or another.
The name comes from Psion Localisation which I don't use though you might. The URL is <http://www.psiloc.com/psion/eng/localisations/index.html> and Psiloc are in Poland.
Good luck,
Phil.

Subject: Revo/Mako Extras settings
Hi folks,
To Mike McConnell:
Mike, thanks for confirming that this bug is not confined to the Mako. As you say, it was probably put in to keep us on our toes :-)
To Alan Rabbitte:
Thanks Alan for your detailed and interesting suggestion.
Actually all the silk screen icons work fine, and when Ctrl+icon is tapped, the app above the icon opens. In short, the only problem is a once-off one in placing the apps in the positions of one's choice in the Extras Bar: not
enough I think to warrant being brave as you suggest :-) But thanks.
