Re. Travelmodem - Appreciate your point, but it sometimes happens with my Nokia 7110 as well that I get a connection which than hangs. Maybe it has got something to do with the IR port ?

Re. Digest 1-10 - The email went to many others at the same time who did not have problems. No, the zip file was created on the Psion with RMRZip. I'll send it agian today.

Re. Touchscreen - I think it might well be the screencable problem. You have several option, I can tell you two:

1/ Assistant will give you an alphabetical list of all programs to open any of them

2/ Start-up will allow you to create a list of programs to start up after a reset.

Re. Synchronisation - It is well known that synchronisation with the Psion is not an easy process and does go wrong from time to time. It is best to always back-up before synchronisation to avoid losing data.

Subject: Screen Cable of Psions and Ericssons

Hi All,

Having had my fair (or is it unfair?) share of  screen cable problems with my Psion Srs 3a, 3mx and MC 218, I  wanted pen my thoughts on it.

In spite of these companies (or at least Psion)  knowing that  the screen cable is the 'weakest link' of these machines, they have done nothing to soften the blow for the owners.  Every time you have a cable problem, it means replacement of a perfectly good screen as well, at a terribly high cost, particularly for those of us living in the Third World countries. I cannot see a good reason for not redesigning  the cable to be a separate item, replaceable by itself, which would have cost GBP 10  at  the most, rather than being nearly ten times dearer  as it is now, except for the motive for making more money.  I have owned Psion Srs 3a from 1995 and after 7 years, these machines still remain he same as far as the screen cable is concerned. In any other industry, customer resistance would have forced the companies to modify the machine, and  indeed, in others like aviation, legislation would have done the needful. In this case, the poor customer is made to fork out whatever the manufacturer thinks fit, unnecessarily at that.

Perhaps I am wrong, and in which case,  I stand corrected. In any case, I shall be glad to hear  fellow users comments  on this matter.

Subject: non-responding touch screen

Hi,

My old 5mx has suddenly stopping responding to the touch screen. Everything else works OK. Have just backed it up. Have tried a soft reset with no change. I have macro5, which means I can continue fairly well without the touchy bit, but any suggestions of what to do/what is wrong welcome.

I had a similar problem a while back, and a digester suggested that I take out the two batteries and immediately put them back in again.  Apparently that causes the touch screen to reset itself.  It works every time!

Hi,

Kevin was having problems with Navigator unZIPping Itamar's digest archive. There are ZIP utilities for EPOC other than Navigator but not all write files are recognised by Navigator. I don't know why. There are a number of ZIP utilities (some free) at TUCOWS and some will allow Itamar's files to be unZIPped. I have both Navigator and nConvert but I used a Mac!

Chris, Vlad and Arent: Thanks. I'll get back to the digest when I've got it all working. If I can avoid using a CF reader and subsequent reformatting I'll do it. It's interesting that Macs (of this vintage) want to alter things. I'm going to try getting the Java-Psion Link working but my Mac web browser may not be up to it.

Take care,

Phil.

Not so for this machine sadly.

To Wajira Perera:

Thanks for your comment on my question concerning synching T39 & MC218. It is nice to here from someone with the same set-up and the same development suggestions. We are at least two now, and as there are many Psionists interested in problem-solving, maybe there is one who is willing to take up this synchronising task as a challenge.
