Hello
(About 30 Epoc digest in tail to read)
>I'm working on a macro and need to put around 50 string constants into an array. In Basic (in the bad old days), I would have used a >"DATA" sentence to hold the data like this.

>How do I do this in OPL?
Three forms I imagine.
1) write one to one:
data$(1)="Hello"
data$(2)="this"
I sure that you don't want to do this, but is ok.
2)do a loop:
A$="Hello this ......"
n=1
DO
data$(n)=data$(n)+nuevo caracter con LEFT, MID, now I no remember
n=n+1
UNTIL space
3) Make a text file to read:
I made a program tha use it. You can take the code from Aleatory (program) in my web page
www.iespana.es/hispaniaS5mx
, it can easily reused.
I like to know more about to do this.

Re: Jorge Ramos [Digest #143]
<<Does anyone know where i get hold of any tutorials that are more extensive than the Powerbase manual (they used to be on the FoxPop website [...])>>
I have just found out that most of the FoxPop tutorial (by Laurie Jane Kern) is archived at web.archive.org and available for free download. Many screen shots seem to be missing, but the .html files are still there, as well as several sample databases. Please, try for instance
http://web.archive.org/web/20000821090944/www.foxpop.ndirect.co.uk/powerbase/powerbas.html
or even better
http://web.archive.org/web/20000304003013/www.armlink.ndirect.co.uk/pbtut/powerbas.htm
In my opinion, it is also worth while to install and dig into the PowerBase samples, contained in the application demo.
Hope that helps

Subject: Morse macro
Howdy!
I've written a macro which will morse whatever text is selected on screen. You can for example select an SMS in PhoneMan and the Psion will morse it for you or you can select text in an e-mail, word document or jotter entry and have that morsed. MorseIt will even morse the result in the calculator.
If anyone is interesten in checking out the Beta version of MorseIt, send me an offlist mail. (It's only 2kb) The current version is limited to 255 characters. It has been tested with Macro5 and Merlin, but should work with any macro launcher.
I would also appreciate information on the morse codes for the special characters outside of the normal A-Z alphabet for different languages (I have the Norwegian ones and assume they're the same in Danish).

Dropped typing with Gold Card
Rolf Brunsting replied to Itamar's query that he had not had problems with dropped letters. However I also have a S7 with a gold Card (56k + Fax) and I am pretty sure I experience the dropped letters also. I always have the modem in place so am not certain that is the cause. I will now try running without the modem, except when dialling out, to see if that resolves the problem.
Powerbase tutorials,
Andy Hayes mentioned that he may have the Powerbase tutorials. I would love to read these tutorials as I have been looking at Powerbase or PsiDat and am not sure in which app I should invest my time.
Start apps at restart,
I use PsiLoc (Shareware) and AlarmPlus (Freeware), both live at the system level and so are started automatically after a soft reset, and both have the functionality to start other apps when they are started. I would recommend AlarmPlus as it is free;) and solves the other problem of stopping unanswered alarms sounding until the batteries are dead (or people in the vicinity throw your Psion out a window!!).

Hi again
I did a mistake
2)do a loop:
A$="Hello this ......"
n=1
i=1
DO
DO
data$(j)=data$(j)+new character con LEFT(A$,n), MID(A$,n), now I no remember
n=n+1
UNTIL space (or ","...)
j=j+1
UNTIL end (could be = *)
It is more slow that write all, (kind 1). too you must use one loop every 255 characters.
I'd use Kind 1 for few words, and kind (3) for many words.

Subject: Psion parallel port adapters
Just an fyi: My two 56K Travel modems appear to have sold. Thanks to all who replied - all from Europe. That tells me that the US Market for Psion is really down to the point of disappearing.
In the process of hunting down the boxes, etc. for the modems, I discovered one IR parallel port printer adapter and two serial-parallel port printer adapters (9v battery type). I have the box for the IR adapter, but only the static-protective pockets for the serial-parallel port adapters. Any interest from the list?

I've been following IR travel modem prices on eBay, and I ended up buying a new one from Clove. Their price was quite reasonable even with the exchange rate and transoceanic shipping. There was not significant savings on eBay even with the used ones.
There is also a company in California that has developed another IR modem that is supposed to work well according to one review I read. It costs $119 plus shipping so it is a little more than the Psion version. It's the Pegasus III Infrared Modem PP2i-5600B from

Subject: Relational databases
Hi all
Jorge Ramos asked about timetracking/billing solutions (see "Query - Agenda to Data/Sheet Link" in Epoc Digest # 136 and their relevant replies in #s 137-138).
PowerBase and PsiDat have been discussed, but no-one has mentioned SmallBase. A pretty extensive relational database; perhaps a bit quirky, but apparently not as steep a learning curve as PowerBase (and MUCH cheaper!). There was a tutorial in Palmtop magazine a while back.
I use it at work - I do't use time functions, but the possibility to set up filters & resort data makes it very flexible in data presentation. It has the possibility to be password protected, but you have to use the password each time you bring the running app back to the foreground after swapping to something else (v. secure, but most annoying - and no option to have p/w only on first opening the file up).
Worth a look

Dear all
Re: Macro menu (or menu macro) query
Thanks to Rolf V, David S, Sergio, and Owen (off list) for their responses to my query giving TWO possible solutions.
On a more philosophical note, I have been assiduously reading (and occasionally contributing to) this Digest in its current & previous incarnations for some 10 years now and it's amazing how:
a) people are so ready and quick to reply to queries,
b) there is incredible expertise out there, and
c) although I like to think I've become quite knowledgeable about Psi-matters, I am *still* learning simple and useful things about how to improve my Psion's effectiveness and efficiency in helping order my life!
Thanks (again) to Itamar & co for allowing this friendly and productive community to flourish, and also to all of you out there for making this such a great resource...
Bye for now

Will PsiJong and Navigate run on the 7/Netbook?
Derek.
You should be able to use a Series 7 for everything that ran on the
MC218. Only really are two things to note:
1. Applications may not run in colour (or color).
2. Applications may occasionally not fill the larger screen so they
might sit in the middle or at the top, depending on how they have been
programmed.
Now for the two applications you specifically mentioned. PsiJong works
great on the netBook so should be fine on the Series7 - the use of
colour here makes a real positive difference. The other application
you mentioned 'Navigate' I am not sure of. If this is 'Navigator', the
file manager application then I believe that this does run perfectly
well but not in colour. I believe that it is possible to get an
upgraded aversion that will run colour so if yours is a recent version
it may be OK. The only other thing I can think of the might be
'Navigate' are the route finder applications from Palmtop (aka TomTom).
Both of these applications work great, making full use of the larger
screena nd using colour if they are recent versions of the
applications.
Cheers,
Steve Hodgson

Subject: PsiJong query
Dear All,
One of my games on the netBook that I used to play frequently was
PsiJong, developed by Ben Vaughan. I recently discovered that the
current version game does not work when I have PsiLoc+ running,
freezing at the point where the animated background is shown. The
background still runs but it is not possible to bring up the menu or
start a new game.
Has anyone else noted this problem or, better yet, fixed it? I
contacted Ben Vaughan who was helpful but unable to offer a fix other
than suggesting removing PsiLoc. I know from the past that PsiLoc
support verges on the non-existent these days so I am left with a
quandry, deciding in the end that PsiJong is only a game so doesn't get
used.
One thing I wondered was whether previous versions prior to those with
the animated background would have this problem. I didn't keep old
downloads unfortunately so if anyone has only versions available could
you get in touch with me off-digest so that I can maybe try older
versions.
As always, thanks for any help.
