Fellow Psionistas:

Seems as if the "techies" at the New York Times are just catching up with us and predicting a "trend" that palmtops have recently been used to replace some of the laptop functions, something we have been doing for many years.

Because of the size of the article, I am only including an abstract and a link to the article itself. The New York Times website is graphics intensive so if anybody wants, e-mail me off list and I will send you the text of the article.

Dear Rolf,

Thank you for your sharing your impressions on the P800, as far as I can recall it is the first review of the P800 that I have seen from the perspective of an active EPOC device user and your comments are most useful. I look forward to your next update.

As someone who is considering along the same lines, I am interested in knowing if you see the P800 as being capable of and replacing your Revo?

Kind regards,

Koi Hin

You must have missed my earlier message regarding the "dream 5mx" where I wanted Lion batteries rather than AAs. I wouldn't want to power a colour screen off AAs anyway.

......

To group in general:

In my previous message I talked about the viewing of movies simply being marketing departments playing a "my d*cks bigger than yours" comparison. I must apologise for that. It wasn't the phrase I was thinking of, but I couldn't remember the one I wanted at the time. I really meant to imply that such a PDA feature was a p*ssing contest between marketing departments. I'm sorry if this triggers mail filters, but as it's been shown time and time again that content based email filters are about as useful as fridges in the arctic, I'm not going to worry about such concerns.

Well, that's that. I'm just about to leave on a two-and-a-bit week holiday and I'm already looking forward to all the email and spams that will fill my inbox in the meantime (NOT!). I hope everybody here enjoys *their* Easter break :-)

Cheers,

I suppose if you didn't get any reply it may mean either noone knows, or the specialists were too busy with the frog-pro-con ;-)

Try some of these links: they are take-apart instructions. Even if boards were repleaceable, there are differences in the screen (and screen-cable?) and number of silkscreen-buttons. Also the difference is oc that the pro is all-RAM. I also just vaguely remember on of the sites /perhaps (http://psion.by.ru/english/indexe.htm)/ might have a direct answer to your q.

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to this digest lark and it is mighty interesting - many, many thanks Itamar (and anyone else similarly responsible).

Five days after ordering my Malay netBook from Sitashop I got an email saying that their promotional price (258 USD) had stopped.  Phew!

Anyway - my first question (one of many - heh heh...) is:

Is there an archive of these posts put together in one glorious chunk?

Subject: netBook Installation Problem

I've finally gotten my netBook up and running again - did not install NoMore which solved the "flashing" problem.

Now I have another problem. Before the "flashing" problem I had EpocSync working on the netBook. Now I'm unable to install it. I keep getting a message - A problem occurred while copying

D:\System\Apps\Epocsync\Epocsync.aif.

I've tried deleting the partial installation and also doing a soft reset. Neither helped. Can anyone help? *Please* don't suggest a hard reset. :-(

Subject: netBook headphone jack

Hello all,

After discovering a small windows application which can capture streaming audio (eg off BBC playing via realplayer) and save it as .wav file and then use music jukebox to convert this to mp3, I can listen to listen again content with just my netBook and EplayM. The but is thats fine as long as Im not in a train etc etc as no headphone socket.

The question is if you look on the right hand side of a netbook or S7 there is a blanking plate which may have been for a modem connection that was not implemented. So could a headphone jack be installed here and wired across the inbuit speaker?? If so how do you get inside a netbook? anyone taken one apart? anyone done this ?

all the best,

Appeal for Help

I've been trying to get my netBook to talk to my, or anyone else's network. It won't. I've meticulously followed the advice I've had from fellow Psion users, both in the EPOC Digest and the comp.sys.psion.misc usenet group.

It still doesn't work, and now it's time for desperate measures.

I live and work in both Berlin Germany and Wolverhampton, England. Does anyone here know of any organisation or person in either country to whom I can send the machine and receive it back in such a condition that it is working with a wireless network, without requiring any further adjustment from me. I no longer have time to spend fiddling with control entries I don't understand, and if it can't be made to work then I will reluctantly have to ditch it and get something that can.

It would be nice to be able to take the machine personally, but as I don't have a car and am really rather busy in both countries, I expect I'll have to post it off and trust to luck.

Naturally I will pay for this service, including the cost of another wireless card if it turns out that the one I have doesn't work with Psion.

The netBook is running the latest version of the German OS, and has an Avaya Gold wireless networking card. NetStatRF reports that it is 'connected to ESS' and reads of the MAC address at the access point. But it won't access the network or do anything useful.

A Sony VAIO laptop connects to the same wireless network without any problem.

I hope there's someone out there that can help,

Philip

Answer to: Antony & others

Re.: Digest management - Just to make it clear, we do reserve the right as owners of the digest to censor any messages and/or to unsubscribe people from the digest. This is clearly stated in the conditions you all received when you subscribed. One of the reasons we decided to run the digest on our Psions and not in a Yahoo or similar program is that we have total control. If we don't want someone to subscribe, we can simply not subscribe him/her. Having said all that, we have never taken anyone off the list, and hope we will never have to either. We have never censored messages before, but did decide to stop this discussion and will enforce this. Let's get back to Epoc matters.

Re. CF cards - I just bought 2 1Gb CF cards for my photography for 400 pounds together, that is just slightly more than a 1Gb Microdrive. In a test report I read that these new 1Gb disks are only slightly slower than the 512 Mb ULTRA ones.

Re. Moderate Forum? - For sake of good order, as far as I remember the member you referred to decided himself to unsubscribe from the list, and returned later and AFAIK is still a subscriber.
