Of course everyone already knows my site is at:
http://home.c2i.net/trygveh/english/
It'll also soon contain the disassembly and repair page for the S7/netBook powerconnector...
(Just need to take those d**n pictures)

Not really...
Trolls feature in many countries' folktales.
It's just that we have the cutest of them....
(Why else do you think that princesses and other fair damsels kidnapped by a Norwegian Troll always ended up with lots of children :-)

Keith: I saw the previous posts about NoMore. Unfortunately it's not installed on Melissa. (The Malay NetBook.... He-hem.)
Eric: Many, many (many) thanks for your suggestions. Obviously I'm gonna try to sort it out ASAP.
Does anyone know of a site that shows a take-apart of a NetBook or S7? I've googled for one, but nothing was obvious.
I assume all the screws are hidden under the leather. Gah!
Thanks,

Answer to: Gilles G. CASANOVA
Re.: CONTACTS database - Basically the contacts database will synchronise the email addresses with the email program, but otherwise IMHO there is no advantage in using it above the DATA program. Quite the opposite, the DATA program is more versatile, easier to use and to search / find data. Personally I left all my DATA files intact and only moved email addresses to the Contacts program. Multiple Contacts files are possible with third party programs, but not as easy to use as multiple DATA files.

Re. Restart - Actually Shift-Ctrl-Fn-K when pressed while highlighting the .app file of a program _will_ kill that program only, no need to do restart just for killing a program.
Re. Getting old - You must be joking ! I just turned 50 and moaning is not my attitude in life. Start living again, you are still very YOUNG !!
Answer to: Philip S. Adkins Potter
Re. Censorship - It is not the disagreements that were censored but the continuation of a subject that (seemed to) insult(ed) other people and went way off the purpose of this digest. Noted your disagreement as well as others some who agreed and some who did not. Let's indeed hope it will not be necessary again.

Subject: Psiwin removal
Hi,
I have persuaded my brother, who lives in Canberra, to get a Malaybook. He installed the paiwin that came with it in spite of my telling him to wait for me to send the latest version - apparently he could not get it to work and when I sent Psiwin 233 he installed that over the top. It still won't work (surprise) and now he cannot uninstall either of them. Having never had any problems with 233 and xp I have lost the steps needed to purge a pc of Psiwin and the version of regclean that is used in addition. Can anyone send them to me or point me to a site that has them. Or is there a Psioneer in Canberra? My brother is not very good with computers!

Hi,
Talking of tide progs for the psion I use Navigate which reproduces a tidal curve for the day. Very handy for places with complex double tides like Poole in Dorset and the Solent. It also handles a number of other navigational duties especially when connected to a gps.
It seems that there are several progs that are very unhealthy for series7 and net/malaybooks ie Pibeam and NoMore are there any others?

Maybe you should get a T-shirt like the one my bike club presented to me at our January meeting - "Official Member of the Piss & Moan About Everything Club" Of course I had to complain that the T-shirt was a size XL and I take an S. :-) Every time I wear it, somebody wants to take it from me. So you see, Will, you've now joined a *very* large, world-wide group. Psionpisstas?

Subject: Java LPR / Java for Dummies / JetDirect / P800
Hi All
Marcus told us about his plans to write a Java LPR client. An excellent idea which I am sure that many on the list will be keen to see, especially as there are now so many people discussing wireless. It will only be a matter of time until they either buy print servers or networked printers.
It would be interesting to have an idiots guide on how to run some of the java apps that are available for the Psion. I think that they run under eshell.exe, but that is where my guesswork ends. It will all be too obvious to you Marcus, but us mere mortals may need some help <BG>
Edgar's research into HP JetDirect also proved interesting. Funnily enough, a colleague, who I had asked to look into the possibilities of printing to IP, came back with the WebServer idea. So it looks like one way or another we will be able to print to IP printers. I must admit though that at the moment the most attractive solution to me would be if the FTP software would automatically move the file to the printer through some watched folder setup. I have had some success with this at work but not as far as the printing stage. Hence why I am eagerly looking forward to some solution for the netBook as this will also work for me at work and save a manual step in the procedure.
Rolf's P800 report made interesting reading. It is so useful to read something in depth. Every year I say that I will get a PDA phone, then never do. I would love a P800, but this year with unemployment looming, I just shouldn't do it. Note shouldn't rather than won't!

Subject: Free Bitstream Fonts
This is not purely an EPOC related subject but there is a some relevance.
There are a set of free high-quality true-type fonts just available for download from the Gnome website. The fonts have been released under an open source agreement with Bitstream and comprise a serif, sans serif and
mono font set called Vera. On first use they seem to be a fairly
attractive font set with the serif and mono appealing particularly.
Those familiar with fonts may appreciate that 'free high-quality
fonts' is normally something of an oxymoron. As I said this is not strictly EPOC but most of us run computers and might want to improve our general font set.
The fonts install onto a Psion successfully through PsiWin, for
printing via PC and can also be installed into FontMachine for
on-screen use. Like many added fonts, they don't exactly look pretty
on the Psion screen but should print well.
If downloading for windows, watch that an additional tar extension doesn't get
added to the filename (e.g. *.tar.gz.tar). If it does, just delete the
extra extension. Checkout http://www.gnome.org/fonts for more.
Hope this is of interest to some.
Cheers,
Steve

It comes from the practice on English ships to use lime to prevent scurvy. The fact that they figured out how to prevent this horrible disease 50 years before anyone else means that I would regard the term Limey as quite flattering. Prioor to this discovery it used to be quite normal for half the crew or more to die of scurvy on a long passage. The disease is caused by vitamin C deficiency.

Subject: Cut and paste Program
I used to have a shareware program on my 5mx that enabled me to cut and paste multiple portions of text, like a multiclipboard. I found it very useful, but it expired and I would love to download it again and register it. I deletedit off my machine and now can't remember the name of it anymore.
Doesanyone know what it is called or have it installed on their machine.
All I need to know is where to get it again.
Can anyone help, or does anyone know where to get a similar application for my psion.
I do a lot of research and this sort of application is a real timesaver.
Thanks,

In a censored mail, I pointed out that in Arbuthnot's John Bull, the
word Frog refers to the Dutch - and this at the beginning of the
eighteenth century.
The point about insulting language is that it is insulting only because
we wish it to be. Normally, when you're at the top of the pecking
order, insults don't worry you over-duly. A Wall Street banker won't
lose sleep from being called a honkey or gringo.

Subject: Psion apps ....
Hi all,
my first posting, although I have subscribed for a long time and learnt lots - thanks to all.
My most used three psion apps are:
1. Agenda - it really runs my life - business and personal. It full of meetings, appointments, doctors, vets, dentists, birthdays, trips, etc for not only me but whole family. It also wakes me up in the morning.
2. Encrypt - it secures all my work nad personal - Data Protection Act - I have done all reasonable by p/w machine and encrypting all docs.
3. Savemail - mega good app - I back up all email into different named files in a folder called my mail on D. it runs well, saves my email and keeps the 7 free and easy of xs stuff.
I have stuck to three apps but use many more at the mo I have 114 apps installed. I use my 7 as my only computer. I have a large cf card which holds all my files and also stores extra sis/zip files of some apps ..... just in case. I back up to different cf cards and not a pc. Although I have backed up a pc onto my 7 when it had virus probs, formated, reinstalled then put info back onto pc from 7. This made me laugh as most back up to a pc.
Thanks for listening, best wishes

Subject: Buzzwords / Powerbase File / Phones
Hi All
Will suggested: -
"I propose that the first person to use such a buzz word on the digest in a serious context should be stripped naked and whipped through the streets of London."
I have been leveraging my assetts all week so look forward to Will's proposal. After all I haven't been to London for years <BG>.
Seriously though Will, I have just downloaded your stock control system (etc. etc.) Its a work of genius and proves the power of Powerbase. I will go back later and see if there was a help file as it is extremely complex for a person with a brain as addled as mine.
I don't do a lot with my phone, just calls, texts and occasional email and surfing. No GPRS or anything like that. The phone is a 6310i which seems big by todays standards, but the battery lasts a good time. I only bought it as I already had a 6210 and had a desktop charger, spare battery and handsfree kit for it. All these items fit both phones. The remarkable thing for me is that this has never had to go back to be replaced. I think that I am on my third 6210 and had 4 T28s. The weakness on my 6210s was the on off switch. It would just fail meaning that you couldn't switch the phone on. Regular failures has what has led me to carrying two phones with me most of the time.
