Hi,

does anyone know of a 9210 Usenet reader, like Rmrnews for Epoc?, or if anyone has plans to write one, if indeed it is possible...

Thanks,

Mike Dyer.

Coo, see http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=SL-C700

Expansys have this on their website, it will be on sale soon. I wonder if they are buying them off Dynamism or they are official imports.

It will be interesting to see how much this colour Revo look-alike goes up for sale in the U.K.

But in my case no newsreading program no purchase (see earlier 9210 post), so I shall be waiting and seeing what happens and continue to use my Revo+ / P7389 combination with Rmrnews.

Mike Dyer.

Subject: Re: Cut and paste Program

Aleck,

I can't help with the actual programme you wanted, but there are three multiclipboards that I have on my machine.

Allied to Macro there is multiclip and multipaste: Multiclip picks up the clip and saves it for later, multipaste shows you the clips you've got saved and you select from there. There is an upper limit on the number of clips you can have - it overwrites the oldest if you exceed this limit, and sometimes the delete clip facility errors (though the overwrite of the same clip seems fine so this is not a problem). The macros are called Multicopy.opo and Multipaste.opo and were available at the macro pages (though I'm out of the loop on new Psion software these days so if you're stuck I'll send you them). If you've got macro installed this is your best bet.

Otherwise I have two installed. Clip-it is based on a database of clips, which you set up first. Then you select from a list and away you go.

This is best for long term clips - i.e. sigs, addresses, standard phrases and the like that are wanted time and time again bit over a period of time. Clip-it was written by Ivo Woltring.

Best for short term clips (i.e. where you are doing a task that involves pasting from a selection of up to 12 clips) is Klip. This sits on top of your screen, can me moved about etc and you save your clips which are then numbered. Of course you have to know which clip lies behind which number, which is where it has it's drawback. Website on the about page

is www.palmanac.co.uk

To sum up, Multiclip/paste macros are the best, Klip is great as it sits in the screen and you don't have to keep calling it up, Clip-it is excellent for large clips that are always being used. All are freeware.

Cheers

Not a single one of them....

Not even for dismantling the screen...

The only 'hidden' screw is under the S7/netBook logo above the keyboard.

But before you touch that one, you should backup the machine, remove all batteries, remove the RAM module, pull out the hinge pins and so on....

I have a gas oven so what gas mark should I set to bake my files to a CF?  I wouldn't want to overcook them.  (Sorry Sergio, I really couldn't resist your typo error!)

Although you put this question to Rolf I hope you don't mind me replying too.  I don't own a P800 but I'm fairly sure it has an internal memory of 12Mb RAM and a 16Mb flash Sony Memory Duo Stick.  I've read a few reviews and a major gripe seems to be that Sony don't produce a Memory Duo Stick larger than this.  If this is true then the P800 is rather limited if you want to store lots of mp3s, video clips or whatever.  And even if larger sizes do become available, no doubt they won't be cheap.  The Memory Duo Stick is not the same as their standard one, it's smaller.

Subject: Sorting Data

I have set up a database with 345 records.  I created a "sort by:" field and sort the database on this field, A-Z (to force it to order by last name regardless of how the record is configured)..

The records are grouped by first letter, all "a"s first, "b"s second, etc. after sorting the database.

The problem is that within the groupings, the sort seems to be random; "Ann", "Amico", Ainsworth", "Arzan", "Anibal", etc.

Am I doing something wrong?  Is it a known bug?

I use this list to prepare E-Mail addresses (thanks to a program Rolf modified for me) and mailing labels, so easy crosschecking as I bring in new addresses would be desirable.

Subject: True(??) Term

Hi All,

I have a small problem and I wonder if someone could help. My True Term Spanish Verbs (registered, a dictionary of Spanish verbs) folder became corrupted somehow and when i tried to reinstall it from my PC, it too was corruped. I emailed the company that created this True Term program (they specialize in dictionaries and such), twice, to ask for a copy of the program, but had no response.

Does anyone know if they are still 'with us'? Of course if they are, they are not very friendly, in which case I would be reluctant to purchase this or any other product from them. Does anyone know of a similar program? I am leaving shortly for Spain for several months, where it can be useful.

Thanks for any help

Re. Cut and paste Program - I know of two macro's. The first one is a set of macro's called "Cocopapa" which will allow you to copy a number of words or sentences in a given order and paste these in the same order. Another macro is "multicopy" and "multipaste" which will allow you to copy a number of words or sentences and paste these in any particular order. The only problem is I don't know where I got these from anymore. If no-one can lead you in the right direction send me an email and I'll send you the files.

Answer to: salix

Re. Psion apps - I would love to use my S7 as the only computer. However, I am also a photographer (second job) and need to download images from my digital camera to the computer and work on them in a photo program. That is just impossible on an EPOC machine.

My most used direct programs are Agenda, email and sheet. However, I use a number or programs like Macro5, Assistant, Merlin to help me utilise the S7 better. Than I use DATA for my contacts (but the email addresses in Contacts), jotter files and have several games installed too. My extrabar shows 66 programs.

Ocean does this too, and a tidal curve or tide table for a week as well as a tide table for a month. It'll also calculate the days of spring tides.

> number of other navigational duties especially

> when connected to a gps.

I use PsiNMEA which supports charts in MBM format. I obtain my PsiNMEA charts by taking screendumps from the C-map software on my WindoZe laptop. I save them as GIFs from Paint and then use nConvert to convert them to MBM on the Psion. I find that as the vectorised C-map charts consist of a dozen "clean" colours this gives a much better result than scanning paper charts.

Most places I use 1:200000 which gives a reasonable comprimise between detail and usability on what is a rather small screen for a chart plotter. I also make overview charts at 1:500000 and 1:1000000. When I need more detail or a better overview I refer to the paper chart or if the engine is running i switch the laptop on.

I mostly use PsiNMEA as a quick confirmation of my position as plotted on the paper chart rather than a navigatinal tool. I.e. I set out my position on the paper chart by reading it off the GPS and using traditional navigation like bearings off lights etc. and if the Psion (or PC) agrees, I assume that means I've got it right. I also use the track log which is useful for reference. The zig-zags on the chart showing my real progress when beating to windward can be a bit disheartening though...

I believe what you can do as an individual subscriber to Yahoo Groups is to edit your profile and NOT allow Yahoo to share your email address.  I have been a part of several Yahoo Groups for many years and did elect not to receive solicitations.  So far, I can't remember any spam that I can attribute to Yahoo.

It may also have helped that I elected to receive my Yahoo Groups messages in digest form and not individual emails.  This has also helped me manage my anti-virus activity.

Gilles,

I have used the Contacts of Revo and assume this is similar to that of the S5MX.

My experience is that Contacts is not as flexible as the Data program of the Psion.  Contacts is good for basic phone and address needs.  But if you have additional fields, you can't create your own custom fields in Contacts.  This is where Data is much better.

So in my case, after importing my Data from the S5 into the Revo's Contacts, and finding Contacts inadequate, I had to convert my database to Data on the Revo.

Hi All

There are some items still left to sell in preparation for my move to Shetland.

I have still got a PalmTec hardcase and metal stylus. Now down to £6.50 including postage.

Kinetic RISCOS PC. Used for a few weeks but couldn't get on with it. It has acted as a printer stand since. Its got 80mb of RAM, no modem, but has a SCSI card. Cost about £1,200 when I bought it. Includes PC, keyboard, mouse, recovery CD and manual. Anyone interested in making a sensible offer before I put it on Ebay?

Iomega Zip drive 250 parallel. Complete with cables. Offers

Iomega Zip drive 250 scsi. Complete with cables. Offers

Oregon Scientific Projector Clock. This clocks tunes itself to the Rugby transmitter so is always correct and automatically changes at the end and beginning of BST. Includes batteries and a mains power supply. £20 including postage.

Programming Psion Computers book. Dog-eared corners! £15 including postage. (This is available free from EMCCs site in PDF but without the dog-eared corners)

Pegasus 3 modem. Complete with cables for psion, PC and telephone, power supply, literature, driver disk and original packaging. £45 including postage.

HP Jornada 720. Complete with docking station, power supply, cables, manual and original packaging. Original CD missing at the moment but will download Active Sync and burn to CD if I don't find the original. £270 including postage.

I have still got the Motorola 3588 mobile phone. Totally unsuitable for Psion usage and cuts out after a few hours! I thought that someone might be able to use it as a part exchange against something a little more tasty. So how about a new offer? I will pay you £1 to take it away. Must be willing to travel to a village near Horsham, West Sussex.

The above are only available for shipping to the UK.

Well, at FM quality (64Kbits) thats a whole a CD, the OpD2d captured files from voice programs eg Radio 4 The Archers :-)   work well at 32Kbits when encoded thats about 2hrs so a whole omnibus and some other programs.

Clearly its not like carrying an iPOD or similar.

Also a MMC to PCMCIA card is avaliable so I can download further tracks using just a netbook when out and about by putting mp3s onto my netBooks CF and then using the PCMCIA to transfer to the MMC.

Hey For 19 ukp its still a bargin but not " I can carry every CD I own with me" solution.

John Welford asked how his non-tech brother could get rid of an old version of PsiWin.  If Uninstall doesn't work, and if the computer is using the home version of Windoze XP, there is a feature called "restore" that lets you get back to a version of the hard drive that worked.  I forget where to find it, but a search might work.  Pick a date before any of the PsiWin versions were installed, and he might be able to start new with the right version.

I too used to have this problem with my 6210e (Orange version of 6210i) - the cause was a loose-fitting battery. The fix is to stick a small band of soft plastic on the inside of the battery case, which stops the battery from moving about. My "repair" was effected by Rob Gates of R.
