It is OK in my Series 7 [156] under Bombs (and bad in my MalayBook).

Not sure I'd be all that enthusiastic, but on the other hand, it
has been ages since I played Invaders. Maybe I could cope
with that one still ...

Some telnets let you capture the screen output, usually with some menu item like Capture to File. I'd look for that first. You may also want to experiment with some of the POP3 commands like NOOP and TOP #

Subject: Update to Moving from Psion netBook to PC & Other Responses
Hi,
Comment to Editorial Team:
Congratulations on your first birthday! I for one, and I'm sure I speak for
the rest of the Digest, would like to thank you for all your hard effort in
maintaining a free newsletter. Voluntary effort often goes unnoticed, so I
would like to reassure you all this is not the case with the EPOC Digest.
Well done!
An update, and no doubt this will raise a smile or two on the faces of some
readers, but the super featured JVC MP-XP 7230 I told the Digest I was going
to be moving to from my netBook, didn't work on delivery and I'm waiting for
a replacement!
As for JVC Tech Support I was told the only person who could help me had
gone home early for the Bank Holiday weekend and no one else could help me
as they hadn't received any training on for the new machines, neither did
they have any manuals they could refer to,. Talk about being ill-prepared
for a new product launch. Perhaps it's not just Psion after all! I'll post
on the Digest how the replacement measures up when it arrives next Friday as
they are in short supply at the moment. I'm therefore left with a £1,600
door-stop on my hands for the time being!!
Comment for Chris Handley - Author of Tube Route:
Don't let the whinging, ungrateful b*st*rds get you down. It's always the
same, the silent majority of users you never hear from. You should make it
Smileware, so at least you'd get some feedback of the numbers using it and
may be the odd positive comment too.....may be!
Kind regards,
Gary
Comment to fellow Digest Readers re Tube Route:
Re the previous post, please appreciate that someone is putting in his own
time and effort into writing a programme and, for no financial gain, is
happy to distribute it. If you like it then let him know. Think about it for
a second, if you provide words of encouragement, then this might motivate
him into providing YOU with support and perhaps on-going development. A
thought to linger on, if you only got negative moans would it motivate you?
Kind regards,
Gary
Comment for Rolf Brunsting:
Undoubtedly, your advice continues to help a large number of Digest readers
with your vast knowledge of IT matters in general.
However, it is unfortunate, IMHO, that your communication skills aren't up
to the same standard of expertise.
You may not be aware of this, but the way that you come across, certainly
via your written communication skills, is indeed unfortunate because, on
more than one occasion after reading one of your posts, I am left with the
perception that you are supercilious, condescending and therefore arrogant.
I am mindful that you live in Holland and it may well be the case that as
English is not your native language you are totally unaware of the effect
that your choice of words and method of delivery have on people. If it is
indeed the case that English is a second language for you, then I can only
hope practise makes perfect!
If, on the other hand, English is your first language, then I would
recommend some communication and people skills training, with an emphasis on
diplomacy.
Kind regards,
Gary

Yes pleeeese! Martin, I've visited your site and the page relating to your Space Invaders game using Web on my S7. This is probably gonna make me sound VERY stupid but I can see the part that says "download" but not the actual link, so I can't see where the actual link is to click and download the SIS file. Do I need new glasses or has the link really disappeared or does Web not show it for some reason? I can't wait to relive my mis-spent youth ;-)
<<<<
Hi Kevin,
Fair point actually. The link is under the 'Invader' icon in the middle of the page - but I should really have provided a text link as well. I'll do that the next time I update the page. Have sent you a copy off-digest in any case. :-)
Best regards,
Martin Guthrie

Answer to: Cyril Catt
Re.: Excel file swaps - The programs nConvert and xConvert (if I am right with this name) convert Excel files to and from the EPOC sheet program quite well. I used it several times without major problems but for some formatting that had to be adjusted. However, I don't know whether the resulting Excel files can be opened on a MAC or only on a Windows machine.
Answer to: Chris Handley
Re. Tube route - Ok, I'll do my best the coming week to put your program through some rigorous testing and email you privately with any results / bugs/ mistakes.
Answer to: Kevin Collins
Re. Palmtop Money - Sorry to insist, but does it really do fullfledged double bookkeeping or not ? Can you give some more information what it does for you ? [Palmtop Magazine did not come out for quite some time already, what is wrong there ?]
Answer to: Mark Deppe
Re. Mail2web - I received Opera from one of the subscribers (as a S7 user it is a free program) and succeeded in entering the Barclays Bank program and check my bank statement. Great indeed. So I suppose I can now use mail2pda or mail2web as well. As to your question why I don't connect directly via the web, I find it much easier - specially when traveling - to download email to my Psion and read it off line whenever I can, in between meetings, on the road (when not driving) and other places <G>. Sometimes I send answers hours later.

Subject: S7 in car - update
Hi All,
I drove into twon today and used my new S7-GPS set up in the car. It actually worked very well. You have to make usre you angle the S7 the right way otherwise you see absolutely nothing, which means you cannot stabilise it against the windscreen. However, the hooks worked just fine and kept it in place, even through bends and over bumps. It does not hinder my view throught he windscreen in any significant way (I am quite tall). If someone is prepared to publish it on his/her website I will write a full explanation and take some photos for all to see and read. Offers please !

Subject: Re: TubeRoute
I'm sorry that I was away for much of this weekend or I would have tried to ensure that this message got into the previous digest but I was quite shocked at Rolf's comments and attitude towards Chris and TubeRoute. I was delighted to see that Neil Thompson offered some support to Chris and I am surprised that others haven't yet. As Chris has said all along, TubeRoute was designed and built for his own personal use and he simple decided to let others use it if they want to. Quite why Rolf is now behaving as if Chris is selling this product as a commercial application is beyond me (unless he completely misunderstood the application's origins) but in all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if Chris now not only withdrew TubeRoute from public release but also never released anything again. I hope that Rolf is able to offer some constructive criticism to Chris via private emails because there is some scope for improvement if Chris chooses to continue work on TubeRoute but after that public lambasting of his software I know what my response would be!
One thing that I did love in Rolf's email, however, was in the final paragraph ... "Also because there's no equivalent to TubeRoute available - you're currently a monopoly supplier. This means that you're expected to meet higher than average standards of product support." Have you ever heard of Microsoft Rolf?

Subject: replace backup battery syndrome
Hi fellow psioneers,
I'm experiencong the "replace backup battery" syndrome that is I get such a message even with a brand new CR2032 battery in the Series5.
The battery status indicator ( system/info/battery ) shows battery not present !
I remember seeing info about that in a recent Digest, but cant get hold of the right issue of the digest.
Can anyone remind me of the source for info about this problem ?
Thanks

Subject: mail2web.com
Hi -
Itamar mentioned that he was having problems with mail2web.com
Sorry, but I don't think I can help. I've not used the service for a while because I've been without my 5mx for three months (!) whilst it was being repaired - and can't remember what happened when I last used the service. I might be mistaken, but I seem to recall that mail2pda.com was trouble-free when I used it on my 5mx.
Best wishes

Subject: SRS repairs
Hi -
I've just received my Psion 5mx back from SRS in Germany. (www.srsgmbh.de),
who have repaired the "inevitable" screen cable defect with a non-standard
longer-lasting cable. The repair cost 95 EURO including carriage back to the
UK, which compares favourably with a UK repair from POS or Psion. The only
problem was that SRS had changed their payment policy without updating their
web site, which led to a three-month delay(!)
Incidentally, I casually mentioned the delay on the Digest a few weeks ago
and was immediately contacted by Marcus von Cube, who worked near to the SRS
workshops. Marcus visited SRS on my behalf and discovered that their policy
of "cash on delivery" had become "cash before delivery" - many thanks to him
for all his help.

Dear Thomas,
do not be so upset. These are the Hungarian localisation files, and free updates you can download (e.g. SimCity 1.1. upgrade, what you can use if you had a *registered* copy of the original 1.0 version)
In case of Phoneman one can download the shareware version and can register personally at Psion.hu. Very convenient service for a lot of people who are not experienced in purchase via Internet.
Edgar, Budapest
PS: BTW this is the web site, where the pictures of the Hungarian Mount Everest expedition (with the Psion S7 as their main communication and logistics unit up in the Himalayas) were on display. I remember a thread had started about the ruggedness of the S7 and the visibility of the screen among this conditions.

Subject: Ref: TubeRoute
Dear Rolf, dear group,
I use Métro version 3.10 when I am in Paris. When I want to travel from Chatelet-Les Halles to Maisons-Laffitte it advises me RER A and I need to switch trains from RER A to RER A in Nanterre Préfecture. This is usually not needed. It is again the same algorithme that splits the RER A in 6 tronçons (pieces).
Métro would have had to have the exact time table to know if a specific RER A goes to Cergy, Poissy (both stop at Maisons-Laffitte) or Saint Germain (that does not stop at Maisons-Laffitte). This would have been an unreasonable specification for the programme and I fully accept it that it therefore advises a change in Nanterre Préfecture. I understand from your explanation, Rolf, that your test train also sometimes does not stop in the station where the split between 2 tronçons takes place. Therefore TubeRoute would also have to implement a full time table.
I accept the idea that tourists rely on the program and that they will probably leave the train at the split, following its instructions, but I expect some intelligence from people who go to a world city. They can see on the diagrammes in the metro itself how the line goes and they can see the split.
I vividly remember the two French tourists to whom I explained the Parisian metro system.
"That's it. Do you follow how it works?"
"One question: how can we see at which station we are?"
"Euhmmm... you look out of the window and you read the sign?"
The "bug" that makes TubeRoute prefer curved lines instead of straight lines should be fixed, but as a user of Métro I do not see the necessarity to fix the problem of "unnecessary" changes.
Yours truly,
Thomas van der Zijden

Reply to Itamar Englesman:
<Palmtop Money - And while you are discussing this program, what does it do more than ABP does which is free, fast as well and ... in colour ?>
I don't have any experience of ABP. However, whilst I was looking for a financial program for my 9210 I came across an old copy of this program I had originally stored (but not installed) on my 9210. I've just installed it to try it out but I haven't yet had to the chance to give it a good run for its money (sorry, couldn't resist that!) I must say that initially I am quite impressed with it - more so when you consider it's absolutely free! I'll let you know how I get on with it in due course.
Reply to David Steer:
<Some while ago I started working on 'Invaders' for the Series 7/Netbook. It is only a Beta at the moment (about 80% complete, no sound, no highscore, no help file and some bugs) but is full screen, fast, in colour and works! If there is interest then I will complete the project and release it! Infact, if people are interested I could send an updated beta version to them direct.>
Yes, I would be interested in receiving your Beta copy :-)

Subject: Wap/GPRS
I haven't followed the whole discussion so apologies if I miss the point on this but on O2 in Ireland I have to specify a different server for wap.
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet" works for web/email
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","wap.dol.ie" works for wap. (wap.o2.ie would work, too, I would guess.
Hope this helps
