Phil,

In the case of the interesting timing and coluntdown program

Meter, all is probably not lost.  If anyone is interested in it, I have a bunch of alpha and beta copies, final version, .sis

versions for Psion and emulator, zips of some source, etc.

Some authors have been kind enough to release what they

still had on hand before leaving the Psion scene.  The C++

source zip runs some 2.7MB, has all the sounds, all the

background MBMs and original drawings, etc.  It may however

be somewhat disorganised (I looked and decided I didn't have

time to continue with it for a while).  Someone would need to go through to see if the registration method is included in the stuff, or whether that would have to be taken out of the source and recompiled.

I'm a little reluctant to put actual programs on my web site,

since I have only limited space and download limits.

I was playing around with EPOC internals for EpocUtil, the lib that comes with SmtpAuth. There I found some info about internal programs which do not apear on the tasklist and cannot be started seperately. Even if you where able to start the program (should be something like EIKSRV.EXE), it will not open the Extras bar because the program actively waits for the tap. <

Dear all,

You're right, the Extras bar function is built into the system, but it can be reached from anywhere in the system - even in programs with a command. For the S7 (and presumably the netBook) the command is Ctrl+10074. For the 5mx (and presumably the MC218) the command is Ctrl+10072. However it seem difficult to implement the command into a macro. I've had no success so far.

Hi Jon,

Nope, just checked and there isn't yet.  I'll add it to the to-do list (unless anyone else fancies doing it??)

It's a folder used to install some software into.  If you never install relevant software, you'll never get anything in it.

But - how will you know in advance what software will want to go there?

And how painful is it to retain the folder?

(My own 5mx has eleven .exe files in there - including

JavaRun.exe, and eshell.exe)

I fear that this passage is responsible for the Digest being defined as

spam. It reached me, but my OE-filter deleted it beacuse I defined the terms

of these very attractive offers as criteria in the Rules window. So you shouldn't mention V..gra, t.ts, p.nis, cred.its etc...

Hi all & David,

David, I haven't had your problems with PsiLoc+ but my 5mx is almost certainly different. PsiLoc+ does indeed do a *lot* and all in one system utility. My other 5mx has a RAM upgrade (from D & G) which PsiLoc+ appears not to like but the alternatives don't use anything like 8MB RAM!

But a long time ago (30 odd years) I learnt that it was impossible to build even 2 machines the same and things ain't changed. So when I buy a 7/nB I'll probably need a different set of utilities.

Ah well, these things are sent to try us.

Happy days,

<If someone knows how to download sis-files with web, please post.>

I have no problem doing this in Web.  Are you sure you are not double tapping the link i.e. choosing to Shift-Control-S "save file as" rather than Shift-Control-D "save link as"?  Try just selecting the sis file hyperlink with a single tap then Shift-Control-D and see what happens.

Answer to: Daniele Squarci

Re. iPass - It seems to me you would be well served with the little program "The Dialer". It will allow you to dial up to the internet from your Psion with different telephone numbers without each having to change the settings in the control panel. Have a look at "http://www.mcaleely.com/freeware/".

Jim,

I did the same and use a Treo 90 together with a Revo Plus.  I use the Revo Plus sparingly because the batteries are malfunctioning already. I periodically synch the two but only for Agenda and Contacts.

Synching the other applications like Docs to Go (word, spreadsheet) is a pain because the Palm OS does not keep all files as neatly as Psion does.  The backup files are all over my hardrive - in folders where the application is.

There is a lot of good software for the Treo 90 but those that I have used on the Revo are still superior to those I have tried for the Palm OS.

EPOC doesn't have the concept of a PATH variable (unlike DOS and its successors, or Unix). So where to find programs without an explicit pathname? The solution is to put each kind of programm in a special folder, e. g. \System\libs for DLLs or \System\Apps\MyApp\ for application "MyApp". \System\Programs is for files of type *.exe, like java.exe.

I think, we both are right: you cannot start the program responsible for the Extras and expect it to

open the application list. But you can still send an event message to the window group belonging

to the eikon server. (See include file EIKSVDEF.H which defines the name. You still have to find

out, which keycode or pen event to send.)

No idea.  There is a "Transfers.." item in Opera5 under the "Special windows" sub-menu in the "Tools" menu.

A Java web browser (with SSL, frames & stuff) that works with the Psion's JVM.  Search for discussions of it on PDA Street.

Is this Monopoly written in OPL or C++?

I guess C++, but if it was done in OPL, then there is a chance you could search/replace the 16-bit value 240 (&F000) & replace it by 480.  If there were lots of matches, then you need to find the value 240 in close proximity to the value 640...
