In case anyone is interested, LUA 5 has been ported for EPOC. They announced it via newsgroups like: comp.sys.psion.programmer | Subject: [ANNOUNCE] Lua 5 for Symbian
For those who are unaware of LUA, it extends the functionality of many languages or simplifies the use of C procedures. They have created and OPX for use in OPL programs which means they can access the C library. This enhances OPL greatly as it provides access to a much lower level of EPOC programming with LUA

Subject: Memory leak/ WebMail/ Extras
Hi,
first many thanks to Michael, Marek and Kevin for their advice regarding sis-files downloading. And yes, I was doubletapping on the link (it works for zip-files so it has to work for everything else - just my logic!)
----------------
Re: Memory leak
General:
A lot of people seem to use and recommend FreeMem - I had it (and some similar programm) installed before someone hinted that selecting Menu, Information, Memory (Shift Ctrl I) in the system screen does free memory as well. (I'm using a German machine - so I don't know whether the name or keypress given is correct for English ones) Then I had a look at the available memory, started FreeMem or whatever and checked again whether further memory was freed - it was not. So I deleted the programs. Has anybody manged to get an additional use out of them?
Opera:
Well, you get some memory back that way but I also clear the cache and for a really thorough clean-up you might reset the machine if you're running low on memory - with Alarm+ and Reset+ it is hardly inconvenient at all.

Re: WebMail
Gianluca Galliano asked:
> I would like to know where to find the macro WebMail you are actually talking about.<
WebMail is a very small macro that recognizes URLs and e-mail adresses. You just have to place the cursor in front of the link/ adress, hit a certain hot-key and it will open web/ e-mail (if not already open), place the string in the appropriate place and opens the page or let's you write the mail.
So I can store my links in notes or data or start from any other document.
The macro can be found at
http://pnicolas.epocboulevard.com/MacroList.html
http://pnicolas.epocboulevard.com/WebMail.zip
However - it is quite old and might therfore not work for some machines initially. My German 5mxPro e.g. has different names and paths for web/e-mail than the original macro - you might need to edit that bit in the source code (no big deal, even if you are a total amateur with OPL. Hey, even I could do it)

Re: Extras
Martin replied on:
>>However, from what I recall of Extrabars, there is an option to let Ctrl+tap of the Extras icon show the original Extras. So I think you've been trying to make things too complicated!<<
>This is only for capturing the Extras key for ExtraBars itself - it
doesn't trigger the Extras bar from within ExtraBars.<
How about that: Set the Extras Button modifier in ExtraBars, Menu, Tools, Startup Preferences... to Ctrl. Tapping on Extras will then always open the original extrabar as usual and Ctrl + tap Extras will open ExtraBars. (xtra confunsing, isn't it?)
Personally I have placed the ExtraBars button directly above the original Extras silk (then Ctrl + tap becomes the modifier anyway since that opens the app directly above the silkscreen button).
Using the Ctrl-key + Codenumber is a bit complicated for everyday use in my opinion. One could of course assign ExtraBars to a different silkscreen or use a macro like AppList to access applications that are not (yet) assigned to an additional ExtraBar...
But if you feel pesonally challenged by your Psion's handling of the problem I would like to see your solution.
Bye,
Astrid

Subject: Routeplanner Millenium's preferences problem
Hi you all,
I read the digest nearly every day but it's the first time I post a message.
Each time I try to access the preferences under map menu, the application crash and I have this message:
Route
E32 User CBase
21.
I use the version 3 of TomTom Routeplanner on a french, series 5mx.
The app and the maps are on D drive.
I tried to move everything from D to C, but with the same result.
Any idea?
Thanks

Subject: Netbook Keyboard Problems
Last night I encountered some strange behavior from my trusted Netbook. It happens that when I try to type into the machine (be it in Word, Email or any other app), after some four or five keystrokes a random character is inserted or the cursor is sent to the "home" position. As you can imagine this makes typing very annoying. I had experienced a similar problem about a year ago with my machine, except that it was in Puerto Vallarta, it was hot and humid and I attributed the strange behavior to the seepage of humidity on the electrical contacts of the keyboard. However, last night in New York, and today, the weather has been neither hot nor humid. Also, no water (or any other liquid) spilled in the keyboard for that matter. Soft resets do not seem to help. I'll try a backup tonight and then a hard reset. Anybody encountered something similar? Although I use the Netbook extensively when traveling (and lately at home with the WiFi connection), but as it is not my main machine it seems strange it would act like this after 2 1/2 years.
Thanks in advance,
Manuel

Subject: Restoring a backup to 5mx Pro
Does anybody has experience in restoring a backup from a 5mx to a 5mx Pro? My main 5mx has developed after two years a crack in the screen casing where the hinge is secured and it looks as if I will have to send it for repair as it is growing continously. I have a 5mx Pro (with the UK rom) stashed in the safe as an alternate machine for cases such as this.
Thanks and best regards,

Yes, I just verified that 10072 works on the MC218 and Diamond Mako. I wish I'd known that when I was struggling with a MC218 with broken touch-sensitive layer and saving up for a 5mx to replace it...

To launch the Extrabar from a macro, try:
PROC Macro:
SendPenDown:(620,260)
SendPenUp:(620,260)
ENDP
Modify accordingly for machines with different screen size, or write a macro that checks which machine it's running on. However, this would be no help for the original poster, as I expect it would launch the ExtraBars program if that is running. Interestingly, when I attempted to record this macro in Macro5, it refused to register a pen event outside the visible screen area, so as I couldn't remember the commands for the pen events. I had to click elsewhere and then modify the macro.

If the folder isn't there, it'll be created when installing the software that needs it.

Hi gang.
I've just bought a second hand Fuji Finepix 4700 Zoom camera to replace my broken Nikon 950. The Fuji uses SmartMedia cards. I have two 80mB Lexar CF cards which I've used with the Nikon. Does anyone have any SM cards of similar capacity to swap? What size are the biggest available SM cards?
PS. Anyone have any useful information on the pro's and con's of Fuji's Super CCD?
Off list replies please.

I think, we both are right: you cannot start the program responsible for the Extras and expect it to open the application list. But you can still send an event message to the window group belonging to the eikon server. (See include file EIKSVDEF.H which defines the name. You still have to find
out, which keycode or pen event to send.)
<<<<
Exactly so gentlemen. :¬) I've generated a couple of small programs/macros to do this called Extras5 and Extras7. The latter to run on Series 7's/netBooks and the former to run on 5/mx/MC218/etc. I've aimed them toward ExtraBars users but any 3rd party program/macro launcher will do (Macro5, HotKeys, etc.). To come back to Ulrich's original request, the program can be called from ExtraBars (say) and trigger the built-in Extras bar. This because some people (myself included now) like to capture the Extras silkscreen key to launch ExtraBars but still want tthe ability to use the Extras bar occasionally from within ExtraBars. Full explanation, etc. in the download file (approx. 4Kb) at:-
http:\\www.pscience5.net/freeware/Extras.zip
Enjoy. :¬)

Is this Monopoly written in OPL or C++?
I guess C++, but if it was done in OPL, then there is a chance you could search/replace the 16-bit value 240 (&F000) & replace it by 480. If there were lots of matches, then you need to find the value 240 in close proximity to the value 640...
<<<<
I think it's in C++ Chris. But even if this were possible, I guess you'd just be able to move the 'letterbox' format to the middle of the screen and not much else. 'Stretching' everything else probably wouldn't work - unfortunately! :¬(

Subject: Broken S7 / ebay
Dear Psioneers,
Thank you for your good advices regarding my "broken S7 / ebay" trouble. I contacted ebay and they got back to me with the message that I might talk to police if the seller won't react in a resonable timespan. Ebay would be cooperative.
The seller however still doesn't answer my emails.
I think for legal purposes I should write a signed postal letter?
What a shame it turns out to be that way.
Have a nice day,
Chris.
