Subject: Einstein Theory

To Owen H. Morgan on a boat somewhere I'm glad I'm not. In response to: The Einstein theory is relatively simple.

I assume you are referring to the Physicist Albert Einstein? If so, which of his many theories are you referring to? E=mc2 perhaps? Is it simple? It states that energy = mass * square of the speed of light. If it is simple, would you please explain why the speed of light is related to the energy within a mass? If you know the answer to this, what causes gravity; an even simpler question?

Thought for the day: Are 'Thoughts for the day' just little (un)witty remarks and observations or an oppertunity to express an off topic opinion without recourse?

Another thought for the day: That's a whatsit, isn't it? ... err ... maybe not.

Hi Benard,

Someone has sended me a 'AT-Commands'-database sometime ago (sadly on german in your case).

This is my bad translation of your requested at-comamnds:

________________________________________________________

AT&F 0|1

-------------

This command loads a factory settings which is saved on ROM. This settings are ussuitable for the most kinds of data transfer.

Changed predefined settings are overwritten.

_______

ATZ n

-----------

Reset/Loading of a saved profile.

This command causes a reset of the active setting-profile.

The values of the NVRAM are saved in the defined register.

The remianing values are changed to the factory-settings.

You could choose from one of the with '&W' saved configruation profiles using (0|1) the n-parameter.

Every command which follows the z-command in the same line will be ignored.

________________________________________________________

"Ringtones: I remember to have installed 4 and 4 as ringtime and delay time. After the reset this became 6 and 4."

If you mean the stettings you can choose in 'Control Panel/Dial' that's normal. The same with my machine. Altough it seems that there is no connection to a softreset. Sometimes the standard values (6, 4 and 32) appear again.

Hope I could help you..

I too have this problem with GPRS and no amount of fiddling with idle times on the psion makes any difference it will still disconnect after a few minutes of idle.  (I can see no setting on the phone to affect this I have tried changing it to permenant and when needed to no effect).  What is interesting is that with normal GSM mobile the idle feature works fine.  It is bothersome with GPRS if logged into something like epocChat and long loading appelets.  I use a Nokia 6100 and imagine it might be a network determined thing rather than a phone thing, though not sure (interesting that if I browse with GPRS and wap browser on phone it will not disconnect, and will happily stay connected when Idle indeffinitly, allows calls in as well and then reconnects great). I use vodafone.  GPRS in general works great with a psion.

Kind regards

Subject: GPS In US

Need GPS suggestions.

I'm in the US and at least once a year take an extensive coast to coast road trip. Currently have 5MX and MBook. Have a 6V autoplug for the 5MX, would need to get one for the MBook if I used that and some sort of cable to connect a GPS and Psion, correct?. I've tried to follow the recent GPS discussion but wanted to know if anyone in the US has had success with a GPS and a Psion for long trips. I fear to get decent US/Canada maps I will need to use Windows programs, and then I'm looking at purchasing a MS laptop, inverter. Blah!

To avoid buying a laptop I have considered the Garmin Street Pilot Deluxe, but appears I might still need a laptop to load various maps when I move to different areas of the country. Or would have to buy a bunch of memory cards and load the area maps before I left. ??

I'm looking for experiences, advice, suggestions.

Subject: Outlook Synchronization Hangs

For many years I faithfully synchronized my Psion 5mx with Outlook. Them some months before upgrading the PC to XP, synchronization stopped working. And nothing I have been able to do has brought this vital function back. The symptoms are this:

1. Synch of Agenda/Outlook invoked on PC.

2. Complains about date mismatch in sych file, asks if I want to

redo it from scratch <yes>.

3. Synch starts, closes the Psion files, reads outlook, updates

outlook.

4. Message box says 'Writing Psion', time remaining 30 seconds.

5. Synch process stays there forever. At least untill I unplug the Psion,

kill the process or shutdown the PC.

6. The Agenda file is apparently never updated. The date of last

synch is never updated.

I am currently running WinXP-SP1 on a dual processor Dell. I am running PsiWin 2.3.3, build 149 and Outlook 2000 SP-3 (Workgroup/Enterprise config).

Anyone have an idea about what is happening here? Is there anything that can be done to correct the problem?

thanks,

I like the Psion too much to want to move on to anything else, so am looking for good deals before ER5 machines disappear for ever.

Surely there is no reason for not deleting files if you don't want them? With the Pro you can wipe out Bombz, surely.

Subject: here is the 1st netBook PRO image with Win CE.net

Hi folks!

I know that seeing some images may hurt, but preventing is much better than curing. Therefore, here is an image of the netBook PRO with the Win CE.net OS.

http://www.google.it/search?q=cache:ubBDTvs4gb0J:www.pec-forum.com/convegni/MB_roma_novita.htm+psion+%22netbook+pro%22&hl=it&ie=UTF-8

As you will see, the brief description deals with a superVGA colour display as well as an internal modem.

If you don't want that this will be the only netBook pro around, please keep on spreading the word of the petition among all the EPOC/SYMBIAN users you may know

Subject: Re: GSM + ISP in Spain

Hi Owen,

As a Psion-using resident in Spain I'd recommend that you go for a Movistar pay-as-you-go SIM. Their PAYG cards are called 'Activa'. They have one big advantage for internet users, which is the provision of a direct internet dial-up number.

The number is 551, and the username and password are both MOVISTAR. DNS addresses are 194.179.1.100 and 194.179.1.101.

The service costs 20 eurocents / min at peak times (8.00am - 8.00pm if I remember correctly), and 10 cents at other times.

To send mail (presuming that you can't use XJMail or SMTPauth with your own ISP's SMTP server), you can use 'smtp.movistar.com' as a relay.

I've found this service to be mostly quite reliable, but on occasion it requires two or three attempts before it will connect.

Hope this helps

Subject: 5mx Pro English 32Mb

Dear all

I recently purchased a 5mx Pro with English OS in South Africa, and more are periodically available from the local distribuR5250 (= Euro 525).

The unit has 32Mb onboard RAM (not 24Mb) and the Eng OS image is version 1.05(255) (and not v250 as reported by others on the Digest).

I have encountered the following problems though: (1) Legacy Data files (from S5/ER3 days) crash (giving a Kernel error) when i use the Find function (2) Opera installs but crashes when loading into RAM (3) The unit "freezes" and needs to be reset more often than any other Psion I have ever used (going back 10 years to O2 and S3 days).

Does anyone know of a website where I can download other Eng OS image versions to install and test?

Thanks and regards,

Subject: Help for contacts.opx

Hi list,

next question from me :)

I want to use contact.opx to "tidy up" my contacts.

But I can't find any help or other information about the usage!

The only thing is the example program, but I have to admit I'm not able to cope with it.

Has got anybody some helpfiles or other help for contact.opx?

Would be great!

Another option would be to ask the people who have for example made ContactManager?  (I don't know the exact name, sorry)

Hope somebody could help me...

with best regards

Hi Owen,

Great!! In the german mailinglist there were several threads about guys who have crashed their index-file and nobody has ever found a way to rebuild it (on an ER5 machine).

Till now, I was tinking that's impossible but i tried it out...

(the filesize was growing and growing and .... after 7 minutes the index-file has been restored :)

(but be aware, the index-file needs 4,75MB with 650 mails)

(after closing email only 144kB..)

Thank you very much!

Did I have an leak of information and everbody knew that already or is it really a totally new trick??

Hi Owen, hi Vlad Kuzba, hi list

Me again. I found out that if I close eMail immediately after creation the index-file, start it again and try do create an new email, email-app crashes with error number 4! If I try to restart eMail, the index app will be created again!

Then i restored my saved index-file. That causes the eMail-app to crash at the same point with error meassage "Not Found"!

It seems, that email-app created not only the index-file but also changes something at the other configuration files in the mail-folder.

(At this point I remembered Owens saying: "Backup the 'system\mail'-folder!" - I backuped only the index-file  :)

Ok, next try: I created a new index-file and tried before closing email-app to create a new email which works. Now everthing seems to work fine!

Let's see what happens while uploading this email...

Does anybody know anything about the file structure of the index-file?? Perhaps you Owen? *g*

(Another question which was often discussed in the german list :)

Subject: Presentation Maker - convert to PowerPoint?

Hi all

I've a set of slide I made in Presentation Maker (on my netBook)

Anyone know the easiest way to get them onto a PC and into MS PowerPoint?

I don't have PsiWin here and am transferring via CF readers not serial cable.

The PM Help mentions a convertor. Anyone know about this. If I install PsiWin, can I convert the file bypassing the serial link transmission?

Cheers
