Subject: Editing PowerPoint files?

I'm very happy with my Series 7 for just about all my business-related work. Lately however, I've been getting more and more PowerPoint files, which I am unfortunately unable to edit on the Series 7.

Does anyone know of a working standalone PowerPoint solution for ER5? I've heard of something called "Presentation Maker" which is A) no longer available and B) needs a desktop for the conversion process. Is there anything else out there now (or in the near future) that will do the trick?

Thanks,

Peter

Unfortunately, Michael Degn did not explain the meaning. He simply went on a

tangent to explain that an increase in kinetic energy results in an increase

in mass. He did not even go on to mention why an increase in Kinetic energy

increases mass. My question was entirely different.

Similarly with gravity, he explained that mass has gravity and kinetic

energy on a matter increases mass, but not why.

Saying a car has wheels does not explain why a car has wheels, or why you

feel the need to add an anecdote to the end of every message you post ;-)

Hi Korbinian,

The OS image is in the ROM of my 5mx, so even if I knew how to get it out of there I'm not sure if it would be of any use (but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

You collect OS images? Out of curiosity, which ones do you have, and do you actually use them ?

Unfortunately you can't because the Pro seems to reserve a fixed amount of 10 MB of its RAM for the OS, which it write-protects after the OS has been loaded.

Don't know about Presentation Maker in particular, but generally the converters provided by PsiWin can also convert files on the PC without actually transferring them. (From the Start menu, go to the PsiWin group and start "Convert Files".)

Yes, one should archive more often  X Savemail or (quicker) MailArc from :

RE

Of course delete only after archiving! One quick way of "archiving" is to cut/copy (elsewhere) the entire /Mail/ folder and, at leisure time) to explore its files, one after the other, from within the Mail/subdirectories .... one could find old forgotten attachments and msgs (which can be opened with editor)....

A rebuit Index file will not always allows to see (in Email window) all these "hidden" msgs.

I maintain my suggestion to "rebuild" /Mail/ itself when the Email application slows or hangs... as a prevention, I'll also suggest to keep /Mail/ the slimest you can by deleting and/or ARCHIVING.

Subject: Re: Korbinian's Contacts

Hi Phil

"I don't know what Korbinian wants to do with Contacts but I assume it's to do with "compartmentalising" contacts ("Contact Loader" may be what was meant). Some such utilities work by using extra Contacts files and renaming them as necessary."

Sorry, you misunderstand me. I should have it explained a little bit better.

My problem is that I had lost my actual contatcs.cdb file some time ago and had to synchronize it with my mobil phone to be up to date again. But this didn't worked well and so I have many entries twice. Meanwhile there exists different versions. Additionally the mobile phone synchronized the mobile number with business mobile number. Not to forget that the contacts-App database was a Data-App file once and it seems I didin't convert it well. For example I added domicile to the postal code field (because my database was structured this way) and renamed some fields and so on. Therfore every other program will get a little bit confused when I try to synchronize it :)

You can imagine that there is a little bit chaos now :)

The point is now: I wanted to write my own program which tidy up this chaos. This job is of course a very specific one which I have to do by myself.

(Perhaps I will even try to write some source to sync with my siemens cell phone which isn't supported by phoneman yet :( )

But I don't understand the usage of the contacts.opx which I need to manipulate the contacts database! I can't find any documentation about it. Only this example file which ... yae... I don't understand.

"But I use iContacts which uses it's own file to *enhance* the ER5 Contacts file and has immense flexibility...."

Sounds not bad! I have downloaded it some time ago but have never used it.

I will have a look on it again (after tidying up my database:).

Thank you!

Yes, of course. And you have the adcance that you can search your emails!

But in this case I don't like macros very much.

btw: I didn't have problems with my eMail-App crashing because of to many emails but because of playing around and trying out Owens 'index-file creation trick' :)

We have a Street Pilot Deluxe.  It comes with a memory card that will hold a large number of the area maps.  Ours is currently holding all maps from Boston to DC plus Chicago, and is only about 1/3 full.  My guess is that you can load all the areas you are going to be in onto one card.  The base maps for North America include all of the interstates for all of the United States without having to load them onto the memory card.  It is, however, easier to create a route on the PC than on the Street Pilot Deluxe itself (but it is certainly doable without a laptop).  If you haven't used this model before, the $20 instructional video is probably worth it.

Just back from Canada with Blur and catching up on the digests.

Stephan Block and Owen H. Morgan both mentioned UK English ROM images for the 5mx Pro. Can either of them tell us where they got them from?

I ordered an english 5mx pro from Clove months ago but their supply seems to have dried up : (

Mark Deppe and Peter McCafferty both had problems with GPRS dropping the connection while idle or " if logged into something like epocChat and long loading appelets. " Mark mentioned having a Nokia 6100 and I think this is the cause of the problem. Unless thngs have changed recently Nokias always had an automatic time out on the IR port - about 2 minutes on idle if I remember correctly. This is a hardware limitation and a right pain in the ar*e if you do all your web browsing via mobile like me and Owen. One reason I've always used an Ericsson : ) cos when you turn the IR on it stays on till the jobs done. Very useful when trying to send attachments while bombing down the motorway in a tourbus and the signall keeps dropping out! Almost makes up for their lack of fax capability : (

Hi Stephan

"The OS image is in the ROM of my 5mx, so even if I knew how to get it out of there I'm not sure if it would be of any use (but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)."

Aahh... Sorry, I thought you have the ROM-Image for use with a mxPro..

"You collect OS images? Out of curiosity, which ones do you have, and do you actually use them ?"

:)

NO! Im not collecting all mx (without Pro) images up to 257 :)

First I had the two german ones (273 and 319). Then, only some weeks ago, I heard the first time from an english ROM which exists (250). And now I thought you have the sys$rom.bin from a german mx with version 327!! Wow a newer version than mine :)   But.... sniff

To answer your questions: ("collecting" was perhaps a little bit "high-ranking" :)

I only have the three named above. I'm using only the german 319.

I tried out the english one but then my machine was very difficult to use because of the german keyboard layout :)

Sadly you can't remap alls keys-combination with keymapper. Like Fn+Space (ok that's obvious :). But Fn+q is at an english keyboard some special character (like â or similar) for example. I'm usedbut you can't remap this combination (if the english ROM-Image is loaded).

Not to forget all the keystrokes in System, Word etc. which were all changed. And, you wouldn't believe it, if you search for example in control panel for 'Bildschirm' or 'Ein/Aus' you won't find 'Screen' or 'Switch on/off'. Same in all the menus.

Therefore I only use the 319 which is the newest of course.

You see, not half as curious as you think :))

Subject: Cheap Revo found in Norway, netBook 12V adapter.

Greetings!

A message to other Norwegian Psioneers:

run to your local Binders shop and check their shelves!

Today I found a Revo Plus for the shameful price of NOK 500 (about £40) in the shop outside of Molde.

The machine was rescued, but I can't afford to check every store in Norway...

My Psion collection now stands at:

Organiser One

Organiser II CM, LZ64, POS200, POS350

HC100, MC400,

S3(128KB), S3a(512KB), S3c(2MB), Siena(512KB)

S5(8MB), netBook, Revo, Revo Plus

In addition I have the Geofox One (16MB version)

Now, if I could only get hold of an Osaris...

--

In other news, I received a Vanson 'Auto DC Power Regulated Adaptor' last week.

This is a power adaptor with a 12V input that can deliver 15/16/18/19/20/22/24V output. (Max 70W)

One of the exchangeable plugs fits the netBook perfectly, too.

The Vanson model nr. is SDR-70W

I got it through Clas Ohlson(Order no. 32.5502, NOK400 + shipping), so it should be available in Sweden and Denmark, also. (Not certain if they serve other countries)

Maybe Maplin or other stores sell it, too.

Anyway, the adapter works OK with my netBook, so now I will be able to power my netBook when I go cayaking this summer.

(It'll be packed in a plastic bag, then wrapped in a towel and stuffed into a waterproof sack, so should survive the ordeal. Power will be supplied via a 12V battery and a small solar panel)

Re. eMail folders - I noted this as well a while back. Upon researching the folders I found that a lot of the files were actually old emails that were once upon a time copied from a different Psion machine. You can check the files by giving it the extension ".txt". It took me a little while to manually delete the files not present in the mailboxes anymore and than ran CleanIt to delete all the empty folders.

Subject: Revo/Mako won't close

My Diamon Mako (= Psion Revo) will not close all the way.  I can put a rubber band around it to make it close all the way,  but for some reason, when I try to close it in the normal way, it stops with about a half to three quarters inches to go.  Does anyone have any advice about how to0 cure this problem?  All I can make out visually is that the two little clips (about an eight of an inch long) in the middle of the rear of the machine (on the other side of the infra red send/receive port from the power plug connector) pop out of place when I try to close it all the way, so that the crack between the silver top and the black bottom make a slight bow from tight corners to perhaps 1/8th of an inch wide in the middle.  I'd be grateful for advice about how to fix the problem.
