Oh dear. That's a whole new thread opening up. I can feel it :-)
To: Stephen Murgan who wrote: > they are not to be taken literally <
I know they are not, but I responded to emphasise the facts that; not only are 'Thoughts for the day' pointless and in this case, incorrect, they are also an oppertunity to present an off-topic opinion or personal thought that others may not share or wish to have inflicted on them. It is easy to say that you simply ignore them except for the fact that once you encounter one, you have read it.
If this is a Psion digest and off-topic items are unwelcome, maybe 'Thoughts for the day' should be included in this category.
If I wanted to read pointless anecdotes I'm sure I could find a website full of them as I am sure Owen did.
I'm not actually stating that anyone should stop appending these to emails, I am merely expressing my opinion as I oppose any moderating or censorship whatsoever.

Subject: Revo not closing
Melvin Woody asked: "My Diamon Mako (= Psion Revo) will not close all the way. ..." If one of the little plastic flanges that holds the keyboard under the baseplate has slipped out, the way to get it back is to take a thin metal blade (my letter opener works fine for me) and slip the tip under the baseplate and use the edge to shoehorn the flange back underneath. You want to lift the tip up so that there is a space to slide the flange into, and then angle the edge against the flange as if you are sliding a foot into a tight shoe. You have to gradually close the unit as you are doing this so the flange slides in as it closes. It sort of requires three hands. Good luck.

Are you using a colourgraphic VGA card to get your slides onto a big screen. If so then I am not sure of other software. (I have one of these now obsolete cards PCMIA for psion, and have never used it so am considering selling any offers.

<<<Unless thngs have changed recently Nokias always had an automatic
time out on the IR port - about 2 minutes on idle if I remember correctly>>>
I do all my surfing and emial with mobile to. I find the nokia stays connected on IR on idle fine using GSM but used to disconnect after a few minutes using GPRS.
As previously posted it now stays connected on GPRS idling for about 8-10 minutes. Not sure why Itamara had a time out of 2 minutes, maybe it is area dependeent or time of day, and busyness of networked. Mystery.
Kind regards

No! It's a fun movie, but doesn't really contain the answer...
Besides, we know the answer; it's 42, it's the QUESTION that's difficult to find...
(Or so you would have known if you ever read Douglas Adam's books)

I know of one on this list, are there more?

Sounds weird...
In my books 06 is listed as 'ACK'(Acknowledge) and 07 as BELL (just that, a bell.Printers would sound a bell if this character showed up)
Of course, these characters may have other uses on a Psion, and particularly if we work with formatted data.
Which programs are you working with, and on which machines?

Unfortunately , chances are slim , Symbian is now passing through its zenith as a non-embedded operating environment and from next year it will be MicroSoft and Intel wich will call the shots in the smartphone business Both Ericsson and Nokia will bring-together with the incumbent telcos- MicroSoft/Intel-based smartphones starting early next year in Asia-Pacific and gradually roll out in other markets as the year progresses Motorola is going for Linux in its next-generation of smartphones *.CE-based phones will be primarily aimed at business accounts rather than the consumer market (Windows for work , Symbian for play ?)

Subject: Re: eMail crashes
Hi Owen
"... you REALLY need the excellent SaveMail application so you can archive your e-mails to Psion Data format...."
mmh! I think I have to rethink my opinion :)
Another advance would be that the eMail-App would be much faster ...
I delete (nearly) all my eMails at a point of 'running out of memory' some times a year. But it would be nice to have all (at least the private ones) saved....
The eMail-App is very functional (like all Apps) but I'm really missing several features! Archiving, automatic filter, at least one Inbox for each account, full text search, etc.
I already tried out the japanese mailer but this is still a little bit in its infancy.
Another point:
I have found a website where many file structures were cracked (including IR-protocol). I will visit it again, perhaps ...
...ok I did this. URL is: 'http://huizen.dds.nl/~frodol/psiconv/html/Index.html'
But nothing about eMail files.
btw: You can compress the index-file manually with OPL. But I was never successfull opening it as a database.
regards
Korbinian
PS: I like your 'thoughts for the day' too :)
