On Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at 06:32 PM, I wrote this deathless prose:

I have since contacted Tr and was told to open the files in TR in

Windows. This automatically updates the file.

I have done this via the Windows emulation on my Mac and the files now

open on the Psion.

I have discovered that the Webster's and the Grolier are the same

thing. The information is excellent but it is extremely difficult to

navigate the file. If I type a word, I am sent to each individual

letter in turn. Not very helpful. I wonder if things would be different

with a faster CF card.

Stephen Murgan of Kentucky asks about replacing a Revo battery. I suggest you contact the Canadian outfit in Toronto - they did a very good job of replacing my Mako's battery and battery PCB.

Re: Charging netBook accu

Francisco, I'm not familiar with the term "accu". Is that a battery?

It is possible to use the spell-check functions directly from OPL, which means it is not necessary to copy to Word.

The best way to do it would be to write a macro that copies the Jotter text into the clipboard, spell checks/corrects the clipboard, and finally pastes the whole text back (including the corrections).

I'd be very surprised if someone hadn't already written a macro to do this.  Although it'd be quite easy, I don't have the time to write such a macro.

Subject: Rolf Brunsting & TubeRoute

Hello all,

It's been about 1 month since Rolf commented on TubeRoute, and after all the replies to his criticisms I have not seen seen any further posts from him (nor recieved any emails in private).

I hope that he is just busy with other things, and was not offended by me or anybody else, because I am sure that was not the intention.

I would still very much value his input (in private) regarding TubeRoute, and I am sure the rest of the Digest would value his help on this list;  from what other people have said, I gather he used to contribute alot, and so his lack of posts is unusual (and missed in many cases).

Regards,

Chris Handley

Who will one day get back to improving TubeRoute, but is busy with a few other projects at the moment :-)

Answer to: francisco.vegas

Re.: Charging netbooks accu - As it is "unhealthy" for a battery to be left without using and you would not know the state of the battery, my suggestion is to buy a second battery and change the batteries over about once a month. I find that after a month of lying around the spare battery has still almost a full charge.

Message to: All

Re. Opera - Nobody answered me first time a while back. Opera 3.6 was free for S7 / nB users. I upgraded to 5.14 which is now an evaluation program. I have got 26 days left (user days, not calendar days). Is this version free or not ?  If not, is it worthwhile to upgrade or not ?

Answer to: Arent Kits van Heijningen & others

Re. nB petition & *.CE - Personally I am pessimistic (in light of past experiences). I think once the new nB will be in full production they will discontinue the old nB just like they already discontinued the S7. We own great machines, but let's face it, sooner or later these will disappear. For me personally a keyboard is absolutel essential and in due course when I will have to make the choice, a new nB running WindowsCE might be preferable above a small notebook. It would mean a lot of adjustments, different programs, etc., but we have to move on with the time. In the meantime I will enjoy my S7 to the fullest. But, again my _personal_ opinion, as we all slowly move towards new machines sooner or later, it will be a subject that the digest should be open to. Let's hear from someone who might get the nB with windowsCE in here please. [PS. Could I ask you kindly to try and separate the quoted message and your answer better ? I find it hard to see where the quote ends and your answer starts]

I've traveled with a Mac laptop for a few years now.  I'm on my first trip with my netbook (malaybook actually) and it's amazing.  No worries about battery and so lite to carry.  As long as I don't drop it, it will be my traveling companion to scientific meetings for years to come.  TG

Subject: EBook and ExtraBars colour icons

Hi All,

There were problems with the original colour icons for EBook and ExtraBars that I created inasmuch as they lost the MIME recogniser information (hence EBook couldn't recognise the TCR, PDB, etc. files).  Thanks largely to the efforts of Andrew Gregory, these have now been corrected in the download files.

If you want the icon(s) but don't want to download the whole file again, drop me an email and I'll send you the one(s) that you want.

Best regards,

Martin Guthrie

Subject: Re: EPOC DIGEST V1 # 293

All,

I come to this august body of product knowledge agents with a couple questions about cell phones - one non-PDA and one PDA type.

Non-PDA question:  I'm looking for a tri-band GSM cell phone with the best fringe area reception/transmission.  I don't really care one way or another about size, but yes I still want it small enough that I can carry it (no 1.5watt units please).  Also I would rather skip color since that kills battery life.

I have heard that the Nokia 6310i is good.  Any suggestions?

PDA question:  What do we know about the Sony Ericsson P800 phone?  It's supposed to have an EPOC core, I think.  What can be loaded on it?  How is the radio section?

TIA!

Tim

I used to have a danelec 64MB it worked but was very slow.

The Hitachi should be OK as that is what shipped originally with the netbook.

Checkout crucial cards they work well for me and also 7dayshop.com had a few good deals recently though the ebay deal sounds great if it works, let us know.

Has anyone successfully used a 9210 to print directly to an IR printer?  Even though I select the correct driver to print to my Canon BJ-10e (equipped with an IR adaptor), all I get is gobblygook.  Yet when I use my S7 I have no trouble and the print output is fine.
