Francisco, I'm not familiar with the term "accu". Is that a battery?
Happy Cycling,

This may come from German usage. In German, there's a difference between "Batterie", which is a non-rechargable battery, and an "Akku" (which comes from "Akkumulator") which is a rechargable battery. An Akku may also be called a Batterie, of course, since Akku is a subset of Batterie...
I hope this helps.

I have a 6310i and am quite happy with it. Battery lasts more than a week, it's got triband (have successfully used it in Europe and US), it has HSCSD and GPRS, and Bluetooth and IrDA infrared. It is a touch larger in size than the very last models, but personally I can't cope with those miniature keys which are in fashion these days. I'd think if you want a "business" oriented phone rather than a "fun" phone you'd be happy with it (I.e. if you don't want colour, camera, MMS, or polyphonic sounds).

Personally I am pessimistic (in light of past experiences). I think once the
new nB will be in full production they will discontinue the old nB just like
they already discontinued the S7. <<
Therefore my proposal for a "budget" machine with a faster version of the
chip used in the s5mx/mc218 and with *.CE compatibility
That budget machine could be roughly the same size as the -now defunct-
jornada 6**/7** models , one Type II CF w. I/O support and one Type II MMC (
w. SD/SDIO support under *.CE or PalmOS 5 , support for Nokia's proprietary
formats under Symbian 6.1 and above ) , same keyboard as s5mx/mc218 , 640 by
480 colour active matrix DSTN screen
, choice of batteries ( 3.6 volts lithium inside machine or dockable , ,7.2
or 14.4 in extternal box connected to power jack , external box for 3 NiMH's (dockable ) or 6 ditto ( cable to power jack )
The discontinuation of the old netbook has to come as the strongarm on wich
it is based is discontinued , hence my proposal for a reworked model based on
a faster version of the chip used in the s5mx/mc218
>>We own great machines, but let's face it, sooner or later these will
disappear.<<
Fortunately that day will be a few years off ,the existing stocks of
components and complete machines will last long enough to ensure a painless
migration
Some development efforts should be spent to provide the tools to let the
*.CE-based Psions/Nokia's/Ericssons to communicate effortlessly with their
Epoc/Symbian-based predecessors and to port over the fine aplications
developed over the past decade for the Epoc 16/32 - Symbian platform
>>For me personally a keyboard is absolutel essential and in due course when
I will have to make the choice, a new nB running WindowsCE might be
preferable above a small notebook. It would mean a lot of adjustments,
different programs, etc., but we have to move on with the time. In the
meantime I will enjoy my S7 to the fullest. But, again my _personal_ opinion,
as we all slowly move towards new machines sooner or later, it will be a
subject that the digest should be open to. <<
*.CE is not as bad as many let us believe , it is very user-friendly and
extremely stable ***BUT*** it is a dog to get it set up properly to get it
there , you have to dig deep into the guts of the systen , edit obscure
registry settings or configuration files and do the occasional soft reset
before it all works as planned
>>Let's hear from someone who might get the nB with windowsCE in here please.
<<
Well , I do have now four years experience with Windows CE and found it
perfectly fitting my needs and had very few issues with it , I did however a
careful setup job and ended up with near-unix-like stability
Thanks to my s5mx dutchie that can run RMRZIP file exchanges -including .sis
files between my 680 and Epoc are no longer an issue ( pack everything in a
.zip on the 680 using the .zip function in Total Commander and if it's big
xmodem it overnight
>>PS. Could I ask you kindly to try and separate the quoted message and your
answer better ? I find it hard to see where the quote ends and your answer
starts]<<
Yes , I saw that , it was the result of just pasting the edit of that digest
directly from Word on my 5mx dutchie into EmuraEdit on my HP680LX using
Datacomms and EmuraTerm
It worked okay but I lost all the line-endings / linefeeds in the process so
i had to tidy it up by hand
This was a carry-over from the Osaris days where it took forever to open the
file transfer dialog box
Now I have found a good way to xmodem over the edit so the formatting is
preserved
(now that I completed the transfer I see that it is correctly formatted in qmail )

The fine - but devastating - detail here is the difference in how ER 5 and ER

ER5 uses LPR (the DOS/UNIX print protocol ) while ER6/7 use bitmap
Bitmap works fine for images such as .tiff and .jpg but results in gobblygook

You will need a "smart" printer that understands standard filetransfer
protocols like xmodem or ftp and wich has onboard drivers to get around this
issue
And these are neither cheap nor easily portable , but using an USF PC you
could turn your small Canon into a "smart" printer
Probable workaround : use Sander's pdfprint

Greetings!
I just returned from my cayaking trip and could finally check the PSU for my netBook.
Mine is the same Sunpower BPA-201-15V as it seems Lowe is delivering with his machines. It may be that Psion never bothered to get a branded model for machines not sold in the UK, but just used what was available.
(For all I know, the Psion branded ones may also be made by Sunpower :-)
---
Rechargeing the Li-ion battery out of the netBook...
It would be possible, but you must build your own charger, and that is a messy affair.(No, I haven't seen any such chargers advertised anywhere)
I could do it, but the cost is... not good... Electronics suppliers don't like to sell low volumes of chips, and the control chips needed are frightfully expensive in small volumes. The fact that they(and the supporting components) are usually surface mount doesn't help, either.

I've had a Psion 7 for some time and recently bought a nB with a spare battery pack.
I've thought about charging them from a motorhome's 12 volt system or solar panels. You don't say, but it's safe to assume that you require mains voltage charging.
External has advantages as it's only 10.8v rather than 15v or a range of 13.5v to 16.5v.
I've decided on making an adapter to plug in to the S7/nB (using the cable cut from the nB PSU) as it does not require making a special socket to fit the battery pack. OK, I've got two Psions, but with only one, the time to fully recharge being about half the discharge time; I can't see that charging the spare in a Psion would present a problem. Unless you need to run for over 12 hours per day before recharge.

I used a Nokia 6310i, till I lost it in Australia. I found it a great phone, good reception and long battery life. Down side was that it is a bit heavier than the newer (small) colour triband phones (ie Sony Ericcson T68i). It is also larger - but that made it easier to use! Being a Nokia, the menu system was excellent. Regarding colour, I believe the T68i has a pretty good battery life even though it is colour

Subject: Psion / S-E T610
Hi all!
My firm upgraded me from my trusty Ericsson T39 to the new T610 the other day. Sorry to say, my experience from a few days use of it is that this time S-E really messed it up. And I think both software- and hardwarewise.
Where the T39 accepted Calendar appointments correctly when IR-beamed from 5mx / M218, the T610 does not. The appointment gets no title and a linked note can not be access on the phone. Repeated appointments with alarms get totally messed up.
The same goes for Tasks, and here it shows that the phone is unable to handle IR sent To-Do:s with repeats, due dates, status and priorities, something that the T39 did without problems.
I have been synching Calendar, Tasks and Contacts in the T39 with my M218 via Outlook for a long time and this has always worked fine. With the T610 it is not that straightforward. I have to admit that S-E this time has done a lousy job programming the new phone. An option to write Notes on the T610 is a welcome addition, but what do you know, it is not possible to synch these Notes with Notes in Outlook! When asked, S-E support just says "..it is developed that way."
Maybe a little out of topic but I like to add a warning for the large but bad screen on the T610. Nice resolution and good colours - but only if you stay indoors! On a normal summer day, it is almost impossible - not only for somewhat elderly people like me - to see what's on the screen. And one reason for me to upgrade from the T39 was to get a larger and better screen....!
Sorry to post such a negative comment, maybe future sw releases will remove some of the obstacles I found in the T610.
Bye,
Jan G

Sorry Itamar, I've been busy! Here's the info straight from the horse's mouth (that's Opera - not me!):
---------
From the Opera for Symbian:·Version 5 FAQ
"Do I need a new registration code?
Yes, you will require a different code from the one issued for Opera 3.62. Those who purchased Opera 3.62 for EPOC can obtain a free upgrade by contacting Opera Software and quoting your Opera 3.62 reg code. Opera will Email a serial for Opera 5 to you.
Unfortunately, if your copy of Opera 3.62 was supplied with the device then you are not entitled to a free copy of Opera 5.
Is the upgrade to Opera 5 free?
If you have purchased Opera directly from Opera Software, or through one of it's authorised resellers such as Braindock or Go32 then you are entitled to a free upgrade to Opera 5. By verifying that you're a registered owner of version 3.62 (usually by submitting your registration code upon request), Opera will provide you with a new serial for Opera 5. You are not be entitled to a free copy of Opera 5 for Symbian OS if you're a registered Windows user, however a license for a second platform is available at a much reduced rate.
Owners of devices that were supplied with a copy of Opera 3.62, such as the Psion Series 7, Revo+ or Diamond Mako, are not automatically entitled to a free upgrade to Opera 5.
These copies are distributed by the device manufacturer under special licence and as such are not subject to the policies of Opera Software AS. Any decision to offer upgrades is down to the manufacturer, who should also be the recipient of any enquiry or comment on the subject.
(Note that this doesn't affect tech support, which is still freely available from Opera)

Even picking it up causes immediate, repeated soft resets and clobbered system parameters (e.g., time, date, and open file pointers). I suspect a fracture (perhaps multiple fractures) in the motherboard circuitry. Given its age and the likelihood of other material deterioration, I have decided to remove life support.
As I depart, I would like to express my appreciation to all who have contributed to the digest over the years. Despite the occasional heated debates, I have come away better informed and my use of this once-trusty device was enhanced by all your contributions."
Sorry to see you go, Ray.
FWIW, the screen cable situation may have taken a *dramatic* turn for the better if the newer design screen-cable, now being used by some repair services, is as much an improvement as we all hope it is.
As for the more serious problems with your 5mx - I'm wondering how you've carried your Psion around. The 5mx is a rather fragile handheld. I know that the PalmTec hardcase has saved my 5mx a couple of times when it has slid out of my pocket onto a hard surface. Have you been carrying your 5mx around without a good case to protect it? I first saw it on this very digest a few months back. The poster (sorry, can't remember who) said you could use any file and name it Index, but I tried with a Word file, and that didn't work, so I used an empty text file instead."
Actually that was me, Owen - and I was only passing on information first posted by Marty Scholes on psionplace.com. Also, I had read that any file could be used but wasn't sure if that was actually correct. As I said then - I've used both Agenda and Editor (text) files successfully.
Here's my original post from way back in Digest 237:
"you can have Email rebuild the Index, if it ever corrupts, by closing Email (may have to do a soft reset), deleting (or removing) the bad Index file from the Mail folder, creating a new file of (probably or possibly) any type (I've used Agenda and Editor, myself) and naming it 'Index' (without the quotes) and then starting Email. Can't take credit for this one though - it was Marty Scholes who discovered this 'trick' and let the world know on the psionplace.com netBook board.
Here's the thread:
http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=a05b8ff535525c08a1fc51ff06886c53&threadid=15961"
(Sorry, in my frantic copy/pasting to a Word file, done as part of an effort to catch up with the Digest - I've pasted this in such a way that I'm not sure if this was still you, Owen:)
"Yes, I do use EpocSync and it has happened that I've forgotten to rename the Mail folder. Rebuilding the index file brought back quite a few old forgotten e-mails that had long since been archived to SaveMail."
I've been using EpocSync for a few weeks and I've not found it necessary *yet* to rename the Mail folder before synchronizing the two machines. Also, the mysterious old email messages and attachments that are resurrected after the index rebuild have, IMHO, nothing to do with EpocSync - as I first noticed these resurrected messages immediately after the first time I rebuilt the index (after reading how to do it on psionplace.com) and *well before I ever used EpocSync*. Also, I keep finding old 'deleted' messages in the 00001001_S folder, and I haven't used EPOCSync since the last time I cleaned up the Mail folder.
As I mentioned to Rolf V., there are two ways to clean up the Mail folder that I'm aware of:
1. Use SaveMail to save all messages from all folders to a Data file.
2. Delete all messages from all folders in Email.
3. Go to the Mail directory and delete all messages in the 00001001_S folder.
4. Still in the Mail directory: delete any attachments from whatever folders they are in along with the folders themselves.
5.. Rebuild the Email index. (Actually this part is probably not necessary)
Try this at your own risk, and be sure to backup your entire Mail directory first! Also, this assumes that you don't mind transferring messages out of Email itself and into a Data file with SaveMail.
Another thing I've found successful is to simply delete any files in the 00001001_S folder and any attachments (from whatever folders they're in) *with a file date older than the oldest message currently in Email* along with the associated folders (for the attachments) themselves - if nothing else is in them.
Once again: try this at your own risk, and be sure to backup your entire Mail directory first!
I think that Email itself sometimes leaves messages (and associated attachments) behind after they are deleted - by mistake and that they are not in the index (before being rebuilt) because they were, after all, supposed to have been deleted!
"PS. Thanks Chris for the tip about MailArch. Could you please supply an URL?"
I'm sure I've got this backed up somewhere; let me know if you want me to email it to you. FWIW, I thoroughly tested MailArc and found SaveMail to be the better of the two - I can't remember why though.

I do make it so, too. But today I stated, that most of the emails are deleted in the email app, but not in the folder C:\System\Mail\00001001_S\ (I see in the Email app 40 mails with 3 attachments, but in the folder 00001001_S\ 177 files + 13 subfolders).
This means, the email app deletes the mails only in the index, but not "physically". A bug??"
If it looks like a bug...
"Could someone give a piece of advise, how to find the useless files and subfolders to be deleted?"
I was going to tell you to rebuild the Index file and then delete any old previously deleted messages in Email again, but I tried that procedure recently and found one of the old resurrected messages was *totally* undeletable - Email gave a 'Locked' message every time I tried to delete it even after a soft-reset. So I figure this should work better:
