Dear subscriber,
Due to the reason "550 System is busy" your provider returned the last 4 digests.
As those waste returns contain the whole digest and your address isn't the onliest, we have to download a big amount of unnecessary mails. Therefore we temporary unsubscribed you for a week.

Subject: Agenda formatting query
A slightly obscure question on the Agenda application that I have been trying to solve.
I archive my completed agenda items periodically, moving crossed out entries to a new file then merging them into an archive. The end result is that the archive contains nothing but crossed-out entries.
As insurance against the day when I don't have an EPOC machine to hand I periodically print this to postscript file or to pdf so that I can view it on other platforms, PDAs etc. The resulting file faithfully picks up the strikethroughs and shows them in the final document. To try to get round this I wondered:
1. Is there a way to remove the cross-out property from all entries within Agenda?
2. Alternatively, are the crossed-out entries marked in some unique was within the binary file concerned. Would it then be possible to change the property universally using a good hex editor that has search and replace capabilities (such as HexEditor)?
3. Moving away from the EPOC platform, is it possible to remove the strikethrough attribute on text within ps or pdf files.
I tried to find a way to achieve what I am after with all these methods but not been successful so far. Any suggestions or other options would be most welcome.
Cheers,
Steve

>>>>>.........I recently had Navigator installed and since then my Psion regards this app as default. I have opened a couple of files with RMR but the settings remained, I uninstalled Navigator and it still looks only for this program. I tried a soft reset - no change. I know I can use third party apps to set the preferences........Could there be some kind of setting in AlarmPlus that is responsible? And if so - how can I change it?<<<<<<<<
Hi Astrid,
- Not Alarm+, but nConvert; Assistant; Macro5...
- Try deleting C/system/apps/rmrZip/RMRzip.ini
- You could use plOpen (even demo can "select" one app)
- Also look for :
/System/recogs/RecZipS.rdl
and restaure, ask for it here or reinstall RMRzip.exe if it's missing.
-Have a look at the Help file/ Archive types /card :
Zip WITH icon preference might be more easily recognised by RMRzip!
PS never forget to : Close archive (Ctl+L) before exiting RMRzip itself (Ctl+E)

My much earlier Abiword v1.4 does open and edit psiword files; A pity that more recent versions are not psionfriendly anymore <G>

Re.: Memory lane... - Just out of interest, are you planning to open an old computers museum or something like that ? What do you do with all these computers and PDA's (besides being "super organised" <G>) ?

Hy Trygve !
>They're neat, but difficult to get hold of today since

Thanks for your infomation. But there is still a german
distributor, who is selling the REX 6000 for about
65 Euros. Check www.lapstore.de
the PDA sector.
Its a great pity, that the direct syncing of these two
machines will not be possible. It would have been nearly
the perfect mobile solution. The netbook for the semi-mobile
situation and the REX for the ultra-mobile situation.
It is so small, I can΄t believe what`s packed inside.
There is of course a little workaround: Syncing from netBook
to Outlook and then from Outlook to REX. But, my intention
was to exclude this annoying PC from taking part in this
syncing process.
What a pity ,...What a great pity ... ;-(
Greetings
Francisco

Subject: Dana vs. Psion 7; Casio ?
For Itamar Engelsman
>Re. Dana - I don't know really how you can be satisfied with the Dana >instead of the S7 or nB (but for the price).
Precisely: the price. (25% of the cost of a 7)
>contacts in DATA bases instead of using the contacts program
I had lots of databases with DATA. I even used Powerbase. But CONTACTS seemed to be a much more common standard.
>Finally, did you not have a back-up to get your contact data
And of what use is the thoroughly (3 copies) backed up contacts.cdb file if there is NOTHING including PSIWIN 2.3.3 that will convert it on a non-EPOC system computer: Convert says that there is NO file format available for conversion.
> Also with your Dana do take back-ups
It's Palm based. Backups are automantic.
And the 5mx screen failed completely and NEVER to return. All the 1/2 or 1/4 opening etc. did nothing. And this side of the pond there is no way to get it fixed.
For Trygve
Sorry, can't remember the name of the Casio. It did have an exterior little printer. As in the HX-20 the programming was a subset of BASIC.
Take care, Larry

Subject: New program: Palette
Hello all,
Just thought that the netBook/Series 7/netPad users out there might like to hear about a new freeware program I've just published: Palette. Here's a little bit of the blurb from my website which describes it:-
"Use all the colours on your Series7, netBook or netPad...! Palette lets you use all 256 of the Psion's colours in Sketch - instead of just the 16 built-in ones.
"The EPOC ER5 Operating System on these machines supports 256 colours. However, the built-in graphics app, Sketch, only offers a very modest 16 colours. By modern PDA standards, 8-bit (256 colour) colour depth is pretty humble, but compared to just sixteen colours, it opens up the potential for a great deal more subtlety in colouring images.
"Sadly, Sketch's apparently very limited capability in this regard, restricts the quality of the colour graphics that can be produced with it to the sophistication of a rudimentary child's crayon set! The irony is that it could easily have been made capable of much more when the original built-in ER5 Psion apps were rewritten for the new colour machines. Palette was conceived & developed to compensate for this deficiency, as far as possible.
"First of all, let us state what Palette is not! It isn't a standalone 256-colour graphics application or, strictly, a plug-in for Sketch which upgrades it into a 256-colour version. It is a separate app. but, once launched, this utility integrates so seamlessly with Sketch (we hope!) that it gives the appearance of being part of it. This is essential in making the 'hidden' colour capability of Sketch not just accessible, but usable for practical purposes, i.e. without requiring excessive user effort/time with stylus or keyboard."
More details and download available on my site: www.pscience5.net (on FreEPOC from the weekend).

Thanks, Owen, for that long post. It was very interesting to see what's behind the scene.
I know that many of us kind of envy you for your unusual lifestyle. This mail gave us some insight into the less nice sides - you have to work very hard during many months for the freedom you have at other times.
All the best for your further travels!
