If you just use the option 'copy to inbox' the mails will be copied but not deleted from your account.

If you select 'inbox' or cut and paste them or delete messages after copying you will also have to use 'close mailbox' to allow your ISP to store the changes to the account.

If the messages are still remaining I can only guess that some weird procedures are required that E-Mail can't execute - if it has to do with authentification Marcus' program SMTPAuth might offer a solution or perhaps this other mail app xjmail (I hope I got the names right).

Do you have another mail account? If not try a freemail service which is known to be working - if you can successfully delete massages there you will at least know that the problem is with the specific ISP/ Psion combination and not a general one.

Hope this helps,

Astrid

Answer to Gordon Thompson

Dear Gordon,

I'm sorry to about your failing MC218, but fortunately it can be fixed.

First you need to close all applications - use <Shift+Ctrl+E> and confirm. Now use <Ctrl+L> to bring up the Remote link dialog. Then press "C" to select Cable - it'll select cable regardless of whatever was selected in the box earlier. You an of course move the cursor one down to choose the baud rate, but it'll be the last chosen baud rate so there should be no need for changing that. However, if you are not sure what baud rate is set press 5 to select 57600 and then the cursor to the right to select 115200 (by pressing 1 you'll never know if it is 19200 or 115200). Finish by pressing Enter. Begin you backup.

For repair I'd recommend SRS GmbH in Germany: http://www.srsgmbh.de/en/index1.html - they're using a new improved flat cable which is of a better quality.

Dear Michael,

I don't know for sure, but I don't think there will be a netpad Pro. The current netpad offers all you need. You can either run SymbianOS 5 or Microsoft CE.NET on it. Why can't you use a netpad running Microsoft CE.NET?

My netbook now has s me really nice colors. If someone would be so kind to direct me to a jpeg app, and maby a 801 wireless setup?  it seems this forum is a rich resource for imformation on my Psion(s). I do own a Revo and right now Im trying to set it up as a quick back p machine to slip into my pocket and go assit a problem. The battery issue seems to be okay as long as you do not let it run down, seems to be a very leakly battery! your friend in texas....where men are men and sheep are scared! sc

Dear Itamar, a clever action to take before is too late!

I am sure I am missing a lot of programs myself, and still using my little machine very little.

But if you like cardgames, dont miss these two:

MILLEBORNES- the french games of cards about car miles

COFFEE- a nice solitaire game

sorry i can not help in any other than games..... shameless !!!

I see you also have GO, named BUD-DOK. A total fever here in Korea, there is even a TV channel dedicated to it 24 hours !

and OTHELLO a fav of my wife (did I just made a bad joke unintentionally?). Really it's.

Regards, and I take this opp to thank you for your work on the digest.

if is worth even to try it.

Subject: Apple (OT)

Itamar, although it is possible to clone most of an Apple Mac, they

contain some instructions in ROM which are only available from Apple.

The Apple II was a very successful machine, partly because of its

adaptability (through an open architecture). But I think that Apple may

have been so exhausted by their struggle to defend the AppleII

copyright against a plethora of cheaper (and frequently much shoddier)

clones that they decided to make the first Mac a closed box. Although

there have been and are many open Mac designs, (there have been well

over 100 models) the initial and several current models are closed and

limited in adaptability.

By controlling both OS and hardware, Apple have been able to more

closely specify the way in which third party apps are written, and as a

result have been able to offer machines that have had fewer

compatability problems than other platforms. By not allowing lower

quality manufacture, and by generally using incremental OS upgrades,

they have also produced machines which have had a far longer useful

life (for basic operations) than other platforms.

Although it has always been possible to find a cut price IBM/Windows

machine at lower cost than the cheapest Apple, the price difference is

in fact relatively slight, and the total operating costs of Apples

appear to have always been much less than other platforms, because

significant factors in cost of operation are the cost of the operators’

time  and the useful life of the hardware and software.

But getting away from the general to the particular, what is best for

an individual is not going to be best for everyone. <You pays your

money and you makes your choice> I needed Excel when it was only

available on Macs, which had the much more efficient user interface for

my needs - so I ended up with a network of them. Others had other needs.

Subject: NetBook can't see the CF card

I turned on the NetBook today after leaving it unused for a couple of weeks. No sign of any of the programs on the CF card, and trying to read  Drive D produced a "drive not available" error message. Swapped cards, same problem. The card is workin and I can read and write to it on the PC and on my 5mx. Is this a known problem? Any workarounds? A soft reset doesn't help. And if I do a hard reset, how will I then reload the OS if the machine still can't see the

Itamar, to yours I would add

SMTPAuth (so I can send emails through an ISP requiring authentication)

PDFPrinter (nice way to preserve stuff for multi-OS use when you don't need to edit it)

I really like PsiMind as an outliner substitute because I can copy directly into Ecco Pro and preserve the outline levels.

ExAb, of course, is brilliant, but I have not begun to fully use it.

Zippy - real simple, does the job well enough, and I like the name -- I feel quite happy whenever I run it! ;-)

Editor -- off the Psion or Teklogix site is great for plain old ASCII text files

RMRCar to keep track of business mileage works.

Questions:

does Web do anything different or work better than Opera for web surfing?

what is Luach?

Does ChaDis have any use on 5mx or netBook? I couldn't tell what it was supposed to do for me.
