Dear All,

I haven't seen any mention of my favourite game.

A Psion version of Hangman is available from www.organizer-online.de . It is ideal for keeping the mind occupied during boring meetings, when the Times crossword would be a little obtrusive!

Highly recommended - and it's free!

Yes, it's perfectly possible.  You need to install an FTP Server on your PC (I use CesarFTP - freeware - but there are many others) and then use an FTP client on your laptop/pda (e.g. nFTP of RMRFTP on EPOC machines) to connect to it.  I use y netBook to access/move/etc. my PC over my WiFi link at home every day...

Subject: Phone time settings

I asked why my appointments are shifting 5 hrs early when I ir them from my 5mx to my Nokia. Jack responded: Just set the phone time with (in your case) +5 more hours in "GMT setting".

My phone doesn't have that option both in the phone 'settings' menu and the organizer time settings menu, the time shows as what it actually is without any reference to GMT. What am I missing?

A netpad Pro based on the same hardware as the nBPro *would* make sense as the underlying hardware would be identical ( wich can be important if  other CE versions and Symbian really take off ) Also MMC support would be better with the possibility to use Type 2 cards with SDIO extensions ( current nP only supports Type 1 w/o SDIO )

The current nP is based on the SA-1100 wich has been discontinued by Intel

Subject: Sagem MyX6 infrared com

Hi fellow Psionists !

Has anyone ever tested the infrared communication between a 5Mx and the Sagem MyX6 cell phone? If so, let me know. Did it work ? Any problem worth noting ? ( I'd rather check before I buy ! )

Thank you.

Subject: smtp & operator logos

Hiya

I have two queries which I'm sure somebody knows the answer to...

1 What smtp server should I be using with the O2 wap service on 915000? i can read my pop email fine, but everything I try to send via smtp.o2.co.uk just vanishes into a black hole.

2 How do I use PhoneMan to reset an operator log to the network's default logo?

TIA

The program is C2F by Malcolm Bryant.  The C2F109 is doubtless a revision number.  Should be easy to locate with that additional information. Hi Everyone

Just a quick note to advise all users of my FreeNote program (note repository for snippets of information and things to remember), that I have released an updated version to my website.

There are no new features, but has some modifications to address some small problems that have come to light.

Kind regards

At one stage I believed that memory effects applied only to sintered cell NiCd batteries.  Now I suspect any NiCd or NiMH battery charged in series may become vulnerable to charging problems.  I believe you can substantially increase the life pan of NiCd and NiMH if you can arrange to charge each cell individually.   On the other hand, I've long objected to the use of any built in or custom sized NiCd and NiMH batteries (on several grounds), and long discouraged buying any product th t relies upon them (and Rolf has disagreed, as I recall).  I don't mind removeable AAA and AA Nixx rechargeables. I use them for preference in digital cameras for instance, because they are an excellent match to the current demand characteristics of igital cameras, whereas alkaline AAs are often a terrible choice for digital cameras.

Nor are LiIon batteries immune to problems.  It now looks like a certain percentage of LiIon batteries will die within about three years, whether charged or not.  Luckily Psion netBook LiIon batteries use a fairly common and cheap (US$7.60) c ll, so repacking with new cells may be a possibility (don't do this at home!)

Case 5.  The patches on 4 Windows files to make Dr-DOS unstable (reversed by using the previous build of those 4 minor files).  Acknowleged as a general technique for casting doubt on the reliability of rival products in Microsoft emails ente ed in various court cases.

Case 6.  Claiming in court that Internet Explorer was an unremoveable part of the operating system. Disproved in court by removal of all IE components in about a half hour using standard Microsoft install tools.  This removal technique was la er available as 98Lite (which removed IE via the Add Remove programs facility).

Like Rolf, I could find other examples.

netBook Pro Symbian

Smartphones are moving away from native applications and towards Java/.Net environments

->>

But in another message you admit that it is a problem that existing ER5 software will not work on such a machine. Why would I spend the money on a new nB Pro if I can't transfer all my existing software with it ? I might as well migrate to another plat orm that will continue to be developed in the future together with all the third party share- and freeware available for such a machine. For example, I use Route- and Streetplanner extensively on my S7. A nB Pro running Symbian will not be able to run thi software, so I would have to invest in a separate GPS/route system. So I might just as well update to a PocketPC or Palm that will run the latest versions of this software.<<

Software is already beginning to become a bit thin on the ground and I have a distinct feeling that many now see the writing on the wall with the recent announcements by Motorola and Vodafone

An issue often overlooked is that the Symbian platform is heavily dependent on MicroSoft technologies with as consequence that phone vendors

(1) are still beholden to MicroSoft's licensing policies and

(2)MicroSoft could break -accidentally or deliberately - both the SDK and Epocconnet

And will Nokia and Psion not strip away everything out above the kernel and the wireless stacks now that interest in native apps is waning ?
