I like both ResetPlus and SysBack. The only thing with SysBack is the fact that it does not restore the Euro currency symbol in the international settings of the control panel.

As a result, after a soft reset all the Euro Symbols included in the Epoc Sheet documents are replaced by the Sterling one.

I contacted the author, who is currently overbusy with his regular job in Symbian and will not have time to fix this small bug.

Could somebody write a macro instruction to solve this (small) problem of every psion user in the Euro zone?

Cheers

Thanks Michael and Itamar. Yes to the macro, but I seem to remember there was a utility similar to hol which would write day and/or week-# in the daily view?

Hello my friends,

Great last Digest, lots of good stuff. Wanted to thank Daniele on the advise on the wi-fi info, Kevin for his strong feelings

about his Epoc devices, I feel the same way Kevin. People ask me at work does your Psion talk to windows...my answer is

only as required. Itamar, thanks so much for the update on the up-coming Revo, just hope that they stick to Epoc. One

last note, even though I am a die-hard Psion user, please don't misunderstand me.Your PDA is whatever works for you

best, you make the bottom decision based on your personal or business requirements. I have been using PDA devices

for a long time and I have had several that were non-Psion machines and met my needs at the time. I just have not

found a machine that matches my netbook for my needs, and I love the Psion OS.

God Bless

Your Friend in Texas

Hi Malcolm J. Demanuele

If it can be to any comfort, I have experienced exactly the same as you did with my version of Ruksun MSN Messenger for Epoc. I ignored the messages from Microsoft to upgrade my msn messenger, too, and now it does not work at all.

Microsoft must have changed something in the way Messenger is working and Rukson ought to come up with an upgrade.

I will sending Ruksun an email, as it cannot be right to leave their customers high and dry after having received our payments for MSN messenger force

If anyone's interested, I've just put my Nokia 9210 communicator up on eBay. It's ideal for someone upgrading from a poorly Psion, so I've preconfigured it with lots of software on a 64MB card, including old Psion favourites like Route Planner, Acrobat Reader, OPL and lots more.

Anyway, if anyone wants a look, it's at

Hi Itamar,

> Fload - Is anyone working with this program ? I loaded it on the machine, loaded 3 fonts and did a soft reset. I noticed the 3 fonts loading before the shell came up. However, if I open Word or Sheet the fonts are not available. Am I missing something or is this program not to use the fonts in the resident programs ?  Can anyone help ? <

I don't know Fload (what is it about and could you give a url?) but it is a general problem when loading fonts. Go to the Printer settings and select a different one (Fax eg) and the fonts will show in sheet and word as well. I forgot which drivers do support extra fonts, so you'll have to fiddle around a bit.

Hope this helps,

Answer to: Could not discern who posted what

RE: Nokia 7700 and Communicators, netBook Pro

>>>What will happen to Symbian in the future now that Nokia is the only member with a substantial involvement?<<<

Are they? Not when I checked last time. Recent releases rather show quite convincingly that the number of companies with substantial Symbian involvement is increasing quite rapidly; Nokia, S-E, DoCoMo, Sendo, Fujitsu, Samsung, Motorola, Panasonic...

>>>Also there's the writing on the wall in the form of an decreased emphasis on C++ and an increased one on J2ME and Nokia's own environment , wich raises the question if developers are willing to support an API that may either be completely missing or changed beyond all recognition in future releases <<<

This can only be writings on a very confusing wall by a very confused writer. The real tendency is rather the opposite; that Symbian OS devices like the 36xx are becoming increasingly mass market. Same in Japan with the Fujitsu FOMA Symbian OS phones and a joint development with DoCoMo.

>>>All Communicators (9210i, 7650,3650,N-Gage,6600 and 7700) have an offline profile with the the phone section switched off   The 7700 will even be usable as a regular PDA without a SIM card <<<

Tell that to the air hosts and hostesses. Most airlines still won't allow it. They do not believe PDA-mode is safe enough. Perhaps you will be able to get away with a 7700 because it does not look like a phone. A netBook or 5mx is still the best frequent flyer workhorse.

>>> A souped up version of the Revo sounds even more exciting but I just have a horrible feeling they would make it run Palm OS if it ever came to be, making my existing software incompatible.  I await further information with great anticipation! <<<

The Nokia 7700 is a good alternative to a Revo. It includes Symbian Word and Symbian Sheet just like the Revo. I am sure a Bluetooth keyboard is coming.

And BTW - Symbian archeologists and historians behold! - the screen resolution of the 7700 is identical to that of the Geofox One (which was running ER4) at 640 x 320 pixels.

To: Simon Jeffree

Whether you believe me or not about RPC requests is irrelevant. To prove it however, put a port sniffer on your lan/internet connection and log the time your device hangs. Check the port sniffers log file and view the packets that were sent to your devices IP address. These packets could be the cause of your internet hang. You could prove this by recreating these packets and sending them to your device on a peer to peer connection from a pc, with no other IP traffic.

Note: I don't want to create a utility here for hanging EPOC devices.

That said, you can do little about the corrupt packets except use a firewall or try an ISP that doesn't hang, which is why I suggested those two providers. Even though I didn't have other numbers available on T-Mobiles free call list I thought that it might be helpful to have something rather than nothing.

I also felt it may be beneficial to other Digest readers, hence my comment about others posting ISP info to the thread.

Hello Jaan,

5FX is indeed very nice, excellent for viewing large JPGs.

Unfortunately, the author recently admitted he has completely stopped development.  So 5FX will remain a great, but slightly flawed, program forever.

He may or may not still be taking registrations (otherwise it has a 30 day timelimit).  Personally I think it is immoral to take money if the program is not being developed anymore...

I did suggest he might make 5FX open source, but I presume my arguments weren't good enough, or he still wished to take registrations :-(

Answer to:  Arent Kits van Heijningen

Re.: Communicators - Thanks for that information. However, try and convince a stewardess that your phone is not on but only in use as a PDA ... But if you don't fly regularly that is not a problem.

Re. S3MX update - Why is an update of this phone more promissing ? Surely the technology and software of this Psion is by now 10 or more years old ?

Answer to: Simon Jeffree

Re. ISP lockup - It is not for free, but Mike told you Claranet has a London number and cost for Freetime 12 just 5 pounds including VAT, while Compuserve have an unofficial London number and costs abt. 6 pounds per month. Is that not less than you would pay to connect to a 08... telephone number via your mobile phone ?

Answer to: Mark Deppe

Re. Exciting times ahead - Sorry, I don't have a web page. As said, it was verbal information given by one of the REVO experts at POS to one of the subscribers of this digest.

Answer to: Jaan Sass

Re. 5FX - it is not a problem of the program, it is the screen of the 5Mx and S7 that does not allow proper viewing of quality photos. I don't know about the nB, never tried it.

Quite a while ago I posted a problem that my S7 could not read a MMC using a PC card adaptor.  Unfortunately no one could give me a definitive answer why it won't work.

Otherwise, as said sounds interesting.>

Sorry Itamar but what you say is not true.  The 9210 allows you to completely disable the phone part to just use it as a PDA if you so wish.  My only problem now is that my 9210 is now COMPLETELY disabled due to a screen problem (150GBP quoted to fix it!)  Luckily I still had my old 8210 so a quick SIM swop allows me to stay in contact.  Indeed, I'm rediscovering the functional joy of the S7/8210 combination again.
