Hi all,

For mail-answering, Chris recommends his indenting macro and Owen REM.

Re:

I like QuoteMyMail from www.mypsion.ru...

I'ld nevertheless, be glad to give Chris macro a try.

Michael,

>>As far as Calendar Apps go, the two main contenders are Datebk5 or Agendus 6, both of which extend the calender to what it should be. <<

My wife has a Palm m515, which she is very happy with, but the DateBook app has one "feature" which I find very dangerous. In one of the views (I forget exactly which one), if you tap on an entry to open it, and instead you tap and drag slightly, the time of the entry changes; there appears to be no obvious way to find out what the original time should have been. Has anyone else noticed this, and is this problem overcome in Datebk5 or Agendus?

Cheers, Ian.

Subject: Great new Psion app!

Hi ER5 fans,

There's a new freeware app called "zExe" that dramatically shrinks the size of .dll and .app files on Psions. Using "zExe", I increased the available memory on my 8MB Revo from 900k to 2MB. It's pretty amazing, and really frees up tons of memory. You run the app, than go from folder-to-folder instructing zExe to "compress all" relevant files. Quick, easy to use, and works a charm.

The author, Robin Hood, writes:

"It is the only tool for EPOC32 that can save disk space without losing any system functionality.

zExe compresses executable files (applications) and libraries (dlls) written on C++ language. They are, for example, some Neuon and RMR programs, Opera, Web, WAP Browser, eshell, eDoom and many others (.exe, .app, .dll, .ctl, .opx, ...). Overall compression ratio is about 50%, thus you can save some MBytes of space by compressing such applications.

zExe works on-the-fly! You will run your compressed applications as before, from Extras bar or from EPOC shell. Nothing will be changed for you! zExe is fully invisible!

zExe works very fast! ... Moreover, if you have a slow CF card, with zExe it will take a smaller time to load, uncompress and run than before.

zExe is extremely useful for Revo/Mako owners, who cannot enlarge disk space. Just compress disk-hungry Opera or Web executable (and some other

ones) and free up to 2-3 MBytes of Revo / Revo Plus / Mako memory."

Great app - it's nice to see new stuff like this still coming out for the ER5 platform.

It can be downloaded at

Hi,

As Program is temporarily defunct I can't produce a SystInfo.oxh file from SystInfo.txh. I can write/rewrite programs as I use nOPL+ but SystInfo.oxh needs to be in Program format and that is not supported.

Will someone help?

Thanks,

Phil.

If you're not having to use a Windows machine I can fully recommend an Apple iBook or Powerbook. However, synchronising with a Pocket PC is not as good as with a Windows laptop so maybe this will also limit your options.

Owen,

I'm not sure that any Palm device will accept a SmartMedia card which might put a stop to your plans. However, for the software side of things have a look at SplashPhoto (http://www.splashdata.com) which might do what you want on the software side of things.

I think that you can get adaptors that allow you to recharge your Palm with standard batteries and Palm themselves make a recharging add-on (http://www.brighthand.com/article/Hands_On_the_Palm_Power_to_Go). Neither are ideal but in the age of rechargables replacing replacables then your options are somewhat limited.

LOL ... I have trouble with my own writing too but I do get on with Graffiti on my Palm surprisingly well. Maybe it is because it is a bit like going back to school and being told how to form each letter.

Although not a subscriber to the magazine myself I believe that Will popped in to the EpocChat last weekend and said that it was due out around the end of the week, i.e. now.

Subject: Palm and the like

Hello to all

It seems there appears to be a increasing interest for Palm devices, such as T3, on Epoc Digest recently: perhaps we should stick to the original

theme -discussing the merits of Epoc OS...Even though I feel OK with helping ex-psionists to switch over to other devices (files transfer, various programs adaptations and the like...), I see no reason to exchange web sites or software tricks dedicated to the day-to-day use of Palm devices on this forum. What is others' (and particularly the Digest "founders") opinion on that ?

Greetings from Grenoble

I have a Brompton collapsible bike and would love to just carry a Revo in my bumbag. But I need to download and process digital photos and so

I put a Mac iBook in the front carrier bag.

Camerawise, I use a waterproof 2 mb Sony U60. If you want a fast - no sliding hatch - digital, it's fabulous.

Subject: Whoops - no more trusty Psion 5MX - I broke the screen :(

I've gone & dropped my Psion Series 5MX - and cracked the screen!

I used to have a great protective case - but I managed to wear the zip out recently, so have been carrying the Psion without the protective case. Let that be a warning to the rest of you! Amazing, I wore the zip out before the Psion!

The touch screen does not work anymore, and I have somehow severed the backup battery connection (as it can not see the backup battery anymore). Even with a shattered but somehow intact display, it is usable, but you have to exit from each application in order to switch to the next (if there is a shortcut - then I have not yet found it.) - as you can not use the touch screen anymore to switch apps.

Dell are going to lend me one of their new X3 PDA's running Windows 2003CE next week, but I know I am not going to like the lack of a keyboard. Support

for bluetooth and 802.11b would be exciting, but it still wont make up for the great Psion apps that I have enjoyed so much over the past 8 years. 8 years!!... and still the best! I just know that the WinCE diary will not compare to the Psions agenda etc. My agenda goes back to Sept 1991 - when the Series 3 first came out.

I could pay Aus$300 for a Series 5MX repair... or do I buy something new? Could I live without a keyboard - I doubt it!

Oh what to do...

If I do have to retire the 5MX to sit alongside the previously retired Series 5... then I guess I can then peel off the two velcro strips from the centre of the car steering wheel. {joke!}

Seriously, if 100+ people hit me with email advise on possible replacements to the 5MX, and how to cope with life "after the loss of a Psion" - that'd be really great.

In turn-- I'll be sure to let you know next week what I think of Dell's very latest PDA. Even if they have done a spiffing job with the hardware (but where's the keyboard!), my concern is still over the software!

Why can't they make us a Psion sized keyboard that uses blue tooth or whatever to talk to the PDA?!

Thank you &regards,

Re.: Still missing the Psion - Well, the Psion's are not yet knock out on the floor. You could purchase a 5MX Pro English version at the moment or you could wait a while for the promissed new improved REVO from POS. As to a sub-notebook, the netBook and S7 come immediately to mind (typing this on my S7). The S7 is only 2nd hand now, but netBooks you can still buy new AFAIK. Personally I use a combination of a smaller Palm for diary and data information and the S7 for sheet files, other data, banking, Money program, emailing, etc. It is a great combination. I only use the PC for two functions, web surfing and my photography programs to edit my photo jobs, rename tham in batches, resize them in batches, Photoshop, etc.

Re. What Palm OS PDA for photo album (OT) - It is not the cheapest at all but the Sony Clie NX series (maybe you can find a 2nd hand one) is just what you need, together with the third party shareware Splashphoto. The Palm has got BOTH smartmedia AND CF card slots, has an outstanding screen, the program can handle jpg files so no need to convert, and it is expensive <BG>.

Re. Using Smartphones while flying (OT) - On some flights they warn the public not to use CD drives, so I suppose you might well be right.

Subject: Problems faxing on Revo using Nokia 6310i

Following my recent request for help in getting my Nokia 6310i to fax with my Revo, Marcus kindly suggested the following:-

(Marcus): "You should create the folders C:\Logs\Etel and C:\Logs\Fax. Then, after a failure, look at the files in these directories, they should tell you, what has happend to your phone."

Thanks Marcus, I tried that & got the following in the C:\Logs\Etel folder:-

" ----------New Log----------

11.18:59:312500 Entered ETel Server thread

11.19:15:296875 ETel: About to exit ETel thread function "

There was nothing in the C:\Logs\Fax folder.

Is this enough information for you or anyone to diagnose the problem & suggest a solution?

Thanks

Subject: PsiCards

To all:

Some digests ago I reported on a bug in PsiCards. David Steer, the author of PsiCards, has then advised to set animation to a minimum and even sent me the latest version of the app (although I am not even a registered user).

I followed his advice and tried the game again - and haven't experienced a single stalled screen since then.

So I would now like to amend my previous report and state that PsiCards is a really good app for all who enjoy card games and tell you about the great support David provides.

(With the latest build and David's advice in mind everything should be running smoothly. In the unlikely event that anyone's screen stalls - just keep in mind to exit the game before closing/ switching off.)

Subject: Problem with copying/pasting Psion files

Could anyone help me with this problem I've been having recently with my Psion Revo? Nowadays whenever I try to drag files from my computer to the Psion, it won't work -- the file just doesn't appear in the Psion window.

The same goes for dragging files from the Psion window to the PC. Also, I can no longer open files in the Psion window to view them -- the hourglass symbol appears for a moment when I try to do so, but the file just doesn't open. Anybody else ever had this problem, and know how to solve it, as I haven't really done anything unusual to my Psion to cause it, except install a program on it called Restart that allowed me to 'soft reset' the Psion (which I have now deleted).

Thanks for any help,

Craig L
