Re.: Woops - I know, I helped out Rolf who had a problem sending the digest and forgot to change the "from" address. Sorry for the confusion.
Re. Teklogix - From their website, "Psion Teklogix is a global provider of solutions for mobile computing and wireless ddata collection". The only product shown on the first page is the new netBook Pro. However, look a the righthand side an you will see their market, solutions for airports, automotive, cold chain, field service, etc. etc. I don't think they are venturing into the PDA market again, sorry to say.

In the Control Panel, go to International Settings. I had to manually enter $ and Dollar, but it works.
Last week I had a delightful lunch with Jim and his wife, Eleanor. We had a fun time talking about our Psions, and the area we live. First time I ever talked to a live Psion-persons. Eleanor is really suffering the loss of her 5MX, she would love to find a replacement. Fortunately I didn't bring mine to lunch or I fear I would have been mugged in the parking lot for it. WoodyB

Yes, you have to move to the UK!
Unless the Mbook is different from other Psions, you'll find the setting under International - Currency on the Control Panel.

You're obviously not a touch typist... This would completely mess me up. I never actually look at the keyboard when typing, so this would be very confusing for me.

I can send you my settings file for a Norwegian keyboard, It's only a tiny file. However, it's not difficult to make your own settings. Key Mapper installs to the Control Panel. I'm sure someone else with a quicker Internet connection than me can send you Key Mapper if it's not available from the site. It is Freeware, so there shouldn't be any objection to someone else sending it to you.

This will do exactly the same as Key Mapper, only less elegantly.

Again, Key Mapper does the same, but more elegantly.

I am afraid that it will need translating but there is a DIC in there 3/4 of the way down the page. Whether this will lead you to what you want in the end I don't know, but it may be a step further along the path to enlightenment! <
Thank you for your efforts, I had found that one myself but the files you mention are 'just' the program itself and the Japanese dictionary and fonts. I had been on the original homepage where a good many language files were listed. Just bookmarked but didn't download them and now they're gone.
:-(
Astrid
PS: Itamar, it has nothing to do with Psion dictionary/ thesaurus files. DIC is a bilingual dictionary program. It works a bit like TrueTerm (program + additional language files) but is much smaller, more basic and freeware. You can even create/ convert language files yourself.

your rant came over as extremely unfriendly. You might not like these kind of posting but that is no reason to get personal. Was it really necessary to post such a lengthy diatribe to comment on a few lines?
BTW, there are good reason for posting multiple messages rather than one with many topics.

Hello everyone
I know they have been posted here already, but could anyone repost GPRS and any other settings for the 5mx/Revo with the T610?
My supposedly new/improved POS screen cable has given up on me after just seven months so yet again I'm on my spare MC218. I just don't know if its worth getting the 5mx fixed again. I'm getting a Fujitsu lifebook and a s/h Axim. I'll see how it goes, but this is probably the end of Psions as far as I'm concerned.
Many thanks,

I have all the Psion dictionaries on my machine and go from one to another using Spell X. Get the Spanish dictionary because often enough the thesaurus will give you a good idea of the word's meaning.

Hi Dic users,
unfortunately this Hungarian site contains only the main SIS files for Dic.app, 2 dictionaries "English-Hungarian" and vv and the manual in Hungarian.
As Dic is a very quick dictionary, I use it often (German - English and vv). Also I have the dics "German - Greek" and vv. If someone is interested in it, ask me by PM.
If someone want to use Dic for other languages, I'm able to convert any dictionary (Indo-Germanic language) into DIC form. For that send me the dictionary in Word or Sheet form, and I will return it to you in Dic form.

Psion is left with Teklogix. What does Teklogix make? Industrial handhelds.
That is where the Netbook started life. The industrial Netpad I now use full time is little different from the 5mx - just better and sturdier - and five times as costly.
An interesting article at Foxpop
> http://www.foxpop.co.uk/hpc/netbook_06.htm
shows just how crummy Wince is on the Netbook.
Psychologically, I'd've thought a whizz kid like Potter needs to be back in the driver's seat. He can't be very pleased that his brainchild - the Psion - in its most recent version is running someone else's crappy OS. Rather than falling on Potter's deaf ears, the petition to keep ER5 for the Netbook told him precisely what he knew. He, like us, knows that he can produce a better OS than Wince or Palm. I imagine
that free of Nokia's constraints he will be aiming at the dual market of pda/industrial handhelds. And by making Linux based machines, he
will be opening his machines up to a vast market.
Of course I may be wrong. Perhaps he's going to cash in his chips and head back to South Africa.

It is considered rude to have messages about religion and politics(unless its about voters in florida), and 'wishing harm to others' is a definite no-no.

Both are common quotes found in most 'cookie' programs, and as far as I know, Owen uses a random algorithm macro to insert them in his posts.
The fact that they may or may not have relevance to a topic is pure coincidence. If Owen wanted to insult you, I believe he wouldn't bother to do it in such a roundabout way...
Anyway, I like the quotes, and if you force Owen to stop, I'll have to start myself...

I count myself very fortunate to have bought a new 5mx within 8 hours of my old one dying from a screen cable death.
But the new 5mx does not seem to recognise CF cards, even though they can be read by other units. Cannot detect them from the PC via PsiWin either. Am I missing some critical initialisation procedure?
(I spent hours looking at Palm, iPaq, Sony etc as a possible replacement, but they are just executive toys compared with the 5mx).

You seem to be suffering from sense of humour failure. What harm can it do to you to scan past these two lines or so -and leave them there for those of us who, like me, find them often more interesting than anything in the digest.... especially gripes from people about what is or isn't included. If it doesn't interest me I just scroll quickly past it.

Not quite! I was sure someone would reply on this thread with the correct answer, but since no-one has yet, here's how EPOC handles it:
When EPOC trys to load an application or other system file, it will check the disks in this order: Y, X, W, V, ..., D, C, B, A, Z. In other words the "bottom" drive letter is checked first, except for Z (the ROM) which is always checked last.
If EPOC appears to not always work like this, it is probably because you have only recently inserted a new disk & it takes a while for the System to use it. You can see this from how long it takes icons to appear on the Extras bar when you insert a new disk.
Additionally, there is no problem of having a backup copy of a (patched) application in the same folder the actual application. Epoc expects the app to have a very specific name, and this is unique (per disk).
I.e. For application Xyz, Epoc will only try to run the the program file ":\System\Apps\Xyz\Xyz.app". Therefore a backup named "Xyz.app_ORIG" will not be a problem, even though it has the same UID.

Hello Anthony,
While I personally wish people would stop adding (irrelevant) anecdotes & quotes to the end of their messages (and have indeed said so more than once), I don't think you are going to win any people to your cause by being slightly insulting about some digest members :-(
Also, I think you are seeing motive where none exists (commonly refered to as paranoia) - I think they are simply random anecdotes, unlike your "Thoughts for the day" which are rather specific.
OTOH, your misconstruing these anecdotes & quotes *is* a reason itself for not wanting them used - no-doubt some other people have also misconstrued them.
Personally, I have a greater dislike for large "signatures" appended to emails, since it is (or at least used to be) considered bad netiquette for many reasons. If I was to start pointing fingers (not usually a good idea IMHO), then I would suggest Owen's 11-13 line signature was far beyond a sensible size.
But since the majority of this list seem happy with how things are, I don't think things are going to change. And well, there are many more important things in life to get upset about...
---
Chris Handley
Thought for the day: If people had to manually write their email signature every time, then it could never grow to a silly size... It would also give the signatures a more personal touch.

Sorry, but you'll have to wait for an official announcement from the relevant party(s) to find out more. Things are likely to move slower than you would like, since Pascal is very busy & can only occasionally check his email.
