ABP is written in OPL which means that it will run under the emulator with no
tricks and will use the same file as used in the Psion. Where you will have
to be careful are if the installation has opx's. You will need to get the
WINS (emulator) versions of these files. Once you have these, you should be
able to run ABP without any problems.
Forget the Java version, in anycase, theoretically, the Java version would
run directly on the PC if you have the Java runtime virtual machine installed.

Subject: Corrupt file
I have a rather large DATA file (nearly 1,000 records) on my 5mx that has
suddenly become corrupt. All records seem completely intact when I scroll
through, and I am able to do so with no impedance. However, when I attempt
any operation other than that (notably, "Find"), it refuses to budge and
pronounces "Data error/Corrupt". I tried saving as a new file, I tried
creating a new file and importing (it got a bit of the way through, then said
the data was corrupt), and I tried reordering (made the whole file corrupt on
opening -- I had made a backup file to try these things). Nothing worked. All
else on the machine seems fine, and all other DATA files seem fine. I have a
backup, but not as recent as I'd like. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hello group,
Yup, I spent some time surfing the Net and I found a possible solution myself.
Sitashop sells an universal power adapter for $ 40. I bought it. It is
slightly more expensive than Christophs offer, but it has the American plug.
I dared not buy from this shop in the case of such an expensive machine as a
Malaybook - Malaysia is quite far away from Belgium - but I think that the
adapter should arrive quite fine. The delivery time to The Netherlands is 4
to 14 days. Ahem... I hope it is closer to the 4 than the 14.

Hello group,
I am still looking for a 110 V power adapter for my Malaybook, because I will
emigrate to the US (Houston, TX).
Christoph Pulster's site shows the standard UK power adapter, described as
"originally made by Psion". Does the original UK Netbook power adapter have
the capability to use 110 V and - better yet - has anybody bought this
specific adapter from Christoph ?
I sent him an e-mail, but I have not received a response, which is quite
contrary to his usual way of doing business. I guess he has been flooded by
e-mails lately. That's the risk of taking a holiday. ;-)
Any other ideas are also most welcome. Expansys.nl wants 60 euros for a US
adapter and that is *far* too steap, IMHO.
Yours sincerely,

Yes there is and it works excellent! I am using it together with the
EpocSync (by M. Bryant) program. I installed the Emulator and the EpocSync
after I had a cable crash with my 5mx to be sure I always had a working
program with the latest information.

Marcus,
Does this mean that this is a fix on EPOC Email client that will allow me to
send out my list with the 300 email addresses in the BCC window without being
limited to CompuServe?
At present, I do al of my work on the Psion. Then use PsiWin to move the
message text and a second file of all my email addresses onto my Dell Windows
desktop machine. There I open the Earthlink mail client and paste the email
addresses into the BCC and the text into the body of the email. A
work-around that works but it would be so much neater if I could send BCC
from my Psion on Earthlink.

In case anyone finds themselves in the same situation as me with a laptop

USB-Serial cable (cheaper to buy it from amazon.co.uk than from
expansys.com) is working perfectly for me as a link between the laptop and my

Anyone want to buy an Axim x5 300MHz? Hardly used, complete and in perfect
condition. Its a bit bigger than the new x3 but has much better battery life
and a compact flash slot as well as an SD slot. Its not for me, but may work
for someone else. 175 euro ono.
All the best, Chris

You might like to know that upgrading to the second patch NO-LONGER needs you
to reinstall CronTab, so that it can now be installed over the first patch
(if you want to).

This is correct!

Errr, yes, sorry about that. My original 3rd release of FastBackup had a
mistake in the (SIS) installation which makes it unusable. This only affects
people who downloaded it within 4 days of it's release (i.e. before
Wednesday).
If you re-download & install it, you will find that it now works...

To: Armin Podtschaske
>OK "Some" do it, but I want to make clear that not all email-providers do it
this way.
But ever so often, I hear that I _have_ to use the SMTP of the ISP.
No, I don't _have_ to, I _can_ if I _want_.<
If you know of an SMTP server that can be used without using the providers
connection services I'd be interested to know what it is because I could
exploit their lack of selectivity and use it for all my internet connections.
I would suspect every spammer on the planet would be interested too.
>Blocking users by IP address is not very intelligent, as obviously they
block you as their customer as well if you connect from outside their
IP-range.
In my opinion their intention is not blocking spammers (how can they block
them when they connect from inside the IP-range?), but blocking users which
choose a different (cheaper?) ISP to connect to the internet.<
ISPs do this because they assign the IP address to their customer either as a
static address, or from a pool of addresses via DHCP. As they know which IP
adresses are used exclusively by their customers, they use this so only their
customers send mail via their SMTP servers. If the IP address is outside this
range(s), the person sending the message will be connected via another ISP
and so get rejected. Companies that provide email, but do not provide
connectivity services, typically require authentication for their SMTP
servers via account verification.
>I only know <snip> ...
I would guess, that all Emailproviders who are not Internetprovider as well
will allow you to use their SMTP from everywhere. There will be differences
in the method of authentication. Until recently only SMTP after POP was
possible with our Psions, but with SMTPauth it is possible to use some other
SMTP's as well.<
I have used my Psion for email for years and have never used an "SMTP after
POP" verification system. It doesn't even appear to be a practicle solution
because often, pop3 services do not run on the same server as SMTP and the
SMTP service would need to check to see if the POP3 account is, or has very
recently been opened (possibly with a matching IP address). Very clumsy and
an unnecessary performance overhead.
Not all email providers provide SMTP mail forwarding. Many mail providers are
not ISPs and would state that you use your ISPs SMTP settings. I regularly
use this method because I wish to retain the same email account, but change
ISP. This way, SMTP authentication is done via the IP address and POP3
authentication is done by account verification. I would say this is the way
most ISPs world wide operate as it prevents misuse of their SMTP servers.
>No, believe me (or Marcus): To send via t-online's SMTP you have to be
1. customer with an email address that they know, e2. connected to the internet vie them.
j3. You have to use emailprovider t-online AND ISP t-online at the same time.
Sending mail this way they delete the complete address in the From:-field

> ... Yes, they do use the account information, but no, they do not demand
SMTP authentication, they even do not demand POP3 authentication (you can let
the password fields empty or enter "aaa").
You connect via Internetprovider t-online and automaticly you can use your
mailbox of Mailprovider t-online.<
This sounds like they authenticate via the IP address they assign you when
you are connected. Any mail sent from this IP address to their SMTP server
get their headers modified to match the account details of the user assigned
the IP address. What they're doing different from other ISPs is simply being
more restrictive by preventing you sending mail with an address other than
the one in your account. The fact that you are required to be connected to
them to send mail via their SMTP would indicate so. Otherwise, you could
attempt to authenticate your pop3 details whilst connected with another ISP,
then send mail via SMTP. I doubt you would be successful, because the flaw in
the theory is that you MUST be connected to the net via them, which presents
you with an IP address from their pool.

Owen,

The main problem is Java, the PSIONJVM.SIS file is a *huge* thing and I
wouldn't suggest installing it on the Revo. On a 5mx that shouldn't be a
problem, if you have some MB working memory free and
enough space on D for the JVM.
Installing SmtpAuth is easy, you need two SIS files which you will find on my
download site (I can send them as an email attachment but the HTTP overhead
seems smaller to me.) You will need the following files:
http://www.mvcsys.de/download/epocutil-sis.zip (164921)
http://www.mvcsys.de/download/smtpauth-sis.zip (27666)
You can type in the URLs directly in Web or Opera to start the download.

Series 60 devices based on Symbian OS v6.1 (i.e. all Series 60 v1 such as
7650, 3650, SX1 etc) *do not* support SMTP Authentication.
Series 80 devices based on Symbian OS v6.0 (i.e. all Series 80 v1 such as
9210) *do not* support SMTP Authentication.
So in the above devices, Marcus' SmtpAuth could be of use.
Series 60 devices based on Symbian OS v7.0s (i.e. all Series 60 v2 such as
6600) *should already* support SMTP Authentication. Please someone verify
this.
Series 80 devices based on Symbian OS v7.0s (i.e. all Series 80 v2 such as
9500) *should already* support SMTP Authentication. Please someone verify
this.
And for the sake of completeness, all known UIQ and Series 90 devices are
based on Symbian v7.0 and v7.0s respectively, so they *should already*
support SMTP Authentication.

Subject: keeping Palmtop-programs from asking to reinstall after restore
orsystem switch
Hi Folks,
There have been questions of how to prevent palmtop programs from asking to
reinstall after a full restore or a system switch.
During the first start after installing, the *.app file is altered somehow
(without changing date, timeor length of the file).
So keep a backup-copy of a freshly installd BigColG.app and name it e.g.
BigColG.app.bak.
If a reinstall is required, delete BigColG.app, copy and rename
BigColG.app.bak and bob is your uncle.
No need for keeping the whole SIS-file.
