Re.: Broadband advice - I am traveling so can't tell you the brand I use. However, I don't think it is very important. I have a wireless network at home for a PC and laptop for 2 sons, and my new mBook with LAN card connected without any problems and without any change of settings it came with. It is great to lie in bed and check my email <G>.

Which database do you mean?
I have been transferring the Contacts database between 5mx/netbook and P800 on a weekly basis. It works very well.
However, converting any data file from the Symbian RDBMS is trickier due to the Ascii<->Unicode issue. It could still be possible though with an application.

Hi there Neil,
Great to hear your reply, but I would like to make few comments if you don't mind, I think it will throw some light on why I could never get my email to you.
You say you got 50-100 junk emails a day, at one point I got 200+, the reason this happened was that I stupidly/accidentally replied to a junk email that said "Click here to remove yourself from the list".
By doing that you are just CONFIRMING your email address and my junk email really started to come in fast and furious over the next few weeks ... please note this if you get junk email and are tempted to take your name off the so called list !
A combination now of me using the latest version of Eudora (V6.0.3.0) which has a junk filter and also my ISP (Demon) using a spam filter on their server, I find that if I get one junk email a week now I consider I am unlucky !
I understand your reasons though Neil, especially where your children are concerned, but don't you have separate email addresses just for them ? password protected as well ?
Now to the crunch I suppose, regarding spamarrest.com, I did clear all my email once then sent you an email, all that came back, within about 1
minute (it might have been from spamarrest.com ?) was one email which Norton Anti-Virus deleted the text part automatically as it contained a virus (according to NAV anyway).
There was a jpg left in the message, that contained a 5-figure number if I remember correctly, but as I say the text was deleted... could this have been from spamarrest.com ?
I don't seem to remember spamarrest.com being in the "To" part of the email though.
Would be interesting to find out :-))
Sometimes NAV does get over-zealous and treats harmless emails as spam .. but not very often I must admit.
Anyway, nice to hear from you Neil !
Kindest Regards,
Steve Denney

>Traded my Dana for a busted 5mx ... <snip> If anyone out there has a 5mx with bad cable that is resisting buying yet one more cable repair and would like to have a Mako to retain EPOC and a Treo to play with Palm OS, I am ready to trade knowing full well I will have to send the machine back to Psion for repairs.<
Why not save yourself some money and keep your other toys by buying a fully working 5mx from eBay? I would have thought the repair & shipping cost via Europe would exceed the purchase and shipping cost of an eBay 5mx from the U.S.?

Dear Excess Effects,
>>I don't find the phone a brick, I either use it in the Car cradle, or open (handsfree) on my desk, if I do use it as per normal against the ear, Its fine. tried a Nokia 8210 for about a week when I still had my MC218 but it was far to small.
This is one of those things which is really a personal preference. When the 8210 hit the stores here in Asia some years ago (Centuries in Mobile-land) it was a huge hit. Most asians didnt have much trouble using the keys and it was small and very slim. it quickly became the most popular phone by far. To me personally, the length of the 9500 is a negative. this is definitely not a shirt/pants-pocketable device, at least not without sticking out of it. It is not something you would feel encouraged to take out with you everywhere, which how people see mobile phones nowadays.
Warm regards,
Koi Hin

Subject: CF Continued
As I mentioned earlier, I managed to get the use of an XP PC which I installed my card reader on. I tried to format the CF card but it would not go past the 52% stage, advising that a sector (?) could not be deleted. I retried the procedure but to no avail. Eventually the PC locked up, but after a restart a FAT32 format on the CF woked, as did a scandisk. Files could be copied to and from the CF without problem. The netBook wont recognise the CF now, which surprises me slightly. I realise that it should be formatted FAT12 or FAT16, so I would imagine that it wouldn't be able to reads the CF at the moment, but would at least know that it was there. If the netBook doesn't recognise it being there (Disk not Present error) then even EDU wont be of any use. My digicam is smart media only so that will be of no use when it comes to formatting. I put the card in a Jornada 720 to see if it would recognise it. It does without problem, but I can't figure out how to format a storage card under Handheld PC 2000 OS. The manual should arrive today so there may be a chance of a pearl of wisdom in there.

Re.: Science - Quite right, but in the end the science of today might be disproven again by the science of tomorrow, just like once they thought it was proven that the earth is flat. Quantum physics has come a long way from the original theories earlier 20th century and Darwin has also been discussed again as just one possible theory. Science continues to evolve and update itself.

Re. NetStatRF - Hmmmm, can't find that one on my mBook. Maybe it is your problem <G>.

Subject: rebooting a MalayBook (to Itamar)
Ciao Itamar,
Sorry for replying only now to a previous question of yours on the Digest.
I personally was involved in helping a good friend of mine in rebooting a malayBook. you can follow a thread at Psionplace at the following link:
http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/printthread.php?s=&threadid=18483&perpage=15 &pagenumber=2
Quite a few power users from the whole world came in to give pieces of precious advice. I finally made it and my friend could have his MBook perfectly rebooted back.
Among the various postings, you will find a quote from a David Lir's private message who was actually describing the most correct procedure to reboot a MalayBook.
I have not heard from David for a long time now. I hope that is more than OK and I am looking forward to read his postings on the digest.
