Never heard of that one !

At the moment the Invair Filewalker and BlueGiga WRAP are the best choice ( best bang/buck ratio ) to endow the little SymbOS-based Psions ( s5,s3mx,s5mx/mc218,revo/mako ) with BT i have planned to give both a through evauation in the coming months

From the docs and telephone/email conversations :

Invair FileWalker Messenger :

Pro's ;

Pocket-sized , build in battery , display , touchscreen

Runs complete linux ( can run ncurses/gui apps )

MMC is Type 2 ( 2.1 mm )  with SDIO support , accepts I/O cards and storage > 128 MByte

Build-in GPRS/HSCSD

Build-in GPS

Links to Psion via RS-232 ( SymbOS 16 i.e s3mx ) or RS-232/IR ( SymbOS 32 R3 and above

Cons :

USB is client ( requires expensive bridge devices to hook up peripherals )

Only available on order , very long delivery times ( 12-18 weeks when in stock , up to 24-36 weeks  if not )

BlueGiga WRAP

Pro's

Multi-port BT support ( up to 3 ports in box )

2 x RS 232 on DB-9's

USB Host w. support for non-pointer devices ( in ordinary parlance , keyboard , printer , networking and storage )

Available in both office and industrial casings

Build-in CF slot for I/O cards ( storage in preparation )

wide-range power supply ( 6-24 volts )

Router/firewall/nat/dhcp relay

Wired Ethernet port

IR via USB dongle

Cons :

Bulkier than Filewalker

No build-in battery

No display/touchscreen

Command line only ( no ncurses or gui)

Small memory ( 16 meg ram . 16 meg flash )

Based on same platform as the s5mx itself ( may cause it to act up with duff CF cards )

Summary : One for the home/office/factory floor ( BlueGiga WRAP )

, one for the road ( Filewalker Messenger )

websites :

WRAP :

http://www.BlueGiga.com ( u.s site )

http://www.bluegiga.fi/ ( Finnish site , wich for all practical purposes is identical to the U.S site )

For UK / European distro see above websites

FileWalker

http://www.invair.ch

The FileWalker can be ordered through POS ( yes the PSION repair folks )

Pricing :

Both products are in the eur 600-800 range depending on options

BlueGiga's WRAP is also availabe in a single-port version with one BT radio for 450 Euros

Answer to: Antony Booth

Re.: Bluetooth Adapter - It might be my ignorance but why should you use MochaPPP with Bluetooth ?  MochaPPP connects the Psion to a PC internet connection via the serial port of a PC and as such I don't see how you could use this program with a Bluetooth connection on the Psion.

Re. Signatures - Surely the discussion about this subject has taken a lot mor space than thousands of peoples signatures ?

Answer to: Keith Giles

Re.: Add/Remove Icon - On my mBook it appears in colour. Maybe this is because I use the program "Color Magic" ? Try it, it is real fun to be able to change the colours on the menu's and toolbars. My toolbars for example are a light yellow, much more pleasing to the eyes and better readeable.

Answer to: Gianluca Gallino

Re.: GPS and 5mx - Yes, you can use a GPS with a Psion and for example City Maps, Routeplanner, Realmaps and other programs. I use it regularly in the car with a Garmin eTrex to take me to the right place or street in a city. In the last digests this matter has been discussed as well, just check them on the website (at the bottom of the digest).

I can't send faxes out with my r520m - but I can receive I know it works because i can receive faxes and send with the Erricsson T610 - as long as the phone is set on GSM service with the regular IR modem settings

RE:

What is your error msg?

Modems setting may be incorrect

Is your telco fax option enabled? YES

It has been reported some success (with Orange) and settings :

Lowering the Speed    I tried lowering the speed

Fax Class 1 (not auto) I changed it all different ways

carrier ON

Terminal ON

Connection Mobile (OR try "Fixed")

It has even been "newsgrouped" that adding a semi colon ";" at the end of a comm-fax# helps!

Your post makes little sense. I must type faster than you because it took only a few minutes. I was unaware the subjects of signatures was a closed topic and thanks for your permission to ad-lib. I will make a note that I should send all posts to you in advance to be authorised before I can submit them. Oh and thanks for replying to my post without replying to anything my post mentioned. Pointless, but revealing.

>Friends, this discussion has now used up much more

space and download time than any imaginable sig.

It is also very boring, and has nothing to do with

EPOC or Psion. Could those interested please take

it to e-mail, and out of the Digest?<

Maybe the reason it has taken up so much space is because people think it is important? The fact that the discussion is about signatures on the EPOC digest, makes it an EPOC digest issue. The argument being the digest should be about digest issues and not about filling the digest with personal information that could be better placed elsewhere.

Hy Antony,

I don´t find Owens sigs anyway annoying, quite the reverse is the case = I

am reading his postings concerning his ventures with a lot of sympathy and

sometimes also a bit of wanderlust ... B-)

IMHO he should hold his sigs like he did in the past ...

Anyway Antony, think of the place you occupied by describing your thoughts

concerning Owen`s sigs ...

Peace on earth, brothers ...

Hi all,

could someone please tell me how to remove a 'ghost' account from my Revo+?. When I try to delete it the message comes up 'not found', but it shows on the email programs list of accounts and it's really annoying.

I tried deleting index but I've now broke everything and had to hard reset, mercifully I backed everything up Saturday so am currently doing a restore.

Weather this will help I don't know, I couldn't suss out how to restore last weeks backup instead which might have been a safer bet?

Answer to: Carlos Rodriguez

Re.: Science, Düsseldorf Compuserve dial up - I am on holiday, currently relaxing overlooking the Lake of Kinneret in the north of Israel. Due to my holiday I also bowed out of the science discussion.

I was actually in Cologne. In the hotel I dialled in via the Muenchen number which worked  best and at the exhibition I dialled into the internet service of the line providers there.

Answer to: Sebastian Payne

Re.: Sony Ericsson T610 with Vodafone Series 7 - Yep, I can help you with that one. In the Internet settings standard dial up number you write "*99***2#", account and password "web", addresses from the server, no log-in and text authorisation ticked. In the modem you just use ATZ in the init string and Hardware (RTS/CTS), terminal detect and carrier detect ticked.

Re.: GPS and 5mx - Several years ago I used the GPS unit form TomTom but I always had problems and it never fully worked. Now I use the eTrex as well with great results.      In answer to Gianluca Gallino, I suggest you get the cable that will also supply the power to the GPS, it makes life a lot easier in the car.   Back to Vlad, I think the only way I remember someone described to install newer maps is to first install them from a PC, than zip them up and store them on a CF card. I think London Greater is one of the biggest maps and is abt. 1.7 Mb unzipped. West Europe is 8.0 Mb but most countries by themselves are considerably smaller.

If you think that Darwin's is a theory of randomness, I suggest you do some reading on what Darwin /actually/ said.

I would recommend 'Almost Like a Whale' by Steve Jones as a starter.

Hi.

I have been asked by a couple of digestees whether there is a site on the net where they can cut and paste my coordinates to bring up a map or satllite image. Preferably EPOC friendly of course. Any ideas?

I just looked back at your post, and saw that the sig you quoted (and quoted again)  was in fact the one I normally use for personal e-mail. This one was posted to digest number 482 by accident, and as far as I can see, that's the only digest it appears in, so much of your criticism isn't really relevant. The one below is the one I normally use for the digest, and have done with variations as my location and phone numver etc. change  for the past several years.

Whenever this subject comes up, I always get a bunch of e-mails from people who really enjoy my thoughts for the day and who like to know my position. I have decided to keep these people happy. As you say, we will just have to agree to disagree.
