I do use Color Magic, so that's not the answer.
Anyone else have any idea how I can get a color Add/Remove icon? Neither soft nor hard resets do anything about it.

I went to the hyperlink you entered and that was the model number of the
Bluetooth serial device. Thanks for the useful info though.

>Bluetooth Adapter - It might be my ignorance but why should you use
MochaPPP with Bluetooth<
If it could be used as a serial device connection to your PC, surely it
could work as a wireless connection to the web via your PC / Server via
Mocha PPP? As S5s/MXs have no PC Card slots to utilise Wifi cards, this
could be an alternative?
> Re. Signatures - Surely the discussion about this subject has taken a
lot mor space than thousands of peoples signatures ?<
I am certain that the discussion about signatures is using more bytes
than the signatures have taken up, but that is not the issue. I
responded to a posting by Owen who stated he had put much thought into
his signature and all the content of his signature had merit. I found
this hard to believe and tried to explain why. I was not specifically
commenting about the size, rather the content, but made reference to the
size when Owen implied the content was no more or less than necessary to
provide the information he wished to; this not being the case if some of
the information was in fact unnecessary.
Surely the subject of elaborate signatures being acceptable has more
merit than a signature of dubious content? If so, why complain about the
debate instead of complaining about the signatures?
I am quite content for there to be a totally unrestricted signature on
the digest as I have a text stereogram signature I have been waiting to
use and with no objections, will be my standard signature beginning with
my next post? It may be large, but there seems to be little objection to
that sort of thing apparently? Especially as it is an optical illusion
and therefore light entertainment and nothing harmful, thereby
warranting as much merit as a "thought for the day" or a witty quote at
least? :-)

I am pleased for you. Your opinion is as valid as anyone else's,
including mine. The fact is, however, our opinions differ on this issue.

thoughts

Thanks, i remember that as well. But installing 40-odd MB of data (various cities in my region, W and E Europe) takes about a day or two, and the map data contain several software components, therefore the process is rather boring...

Re.: Orange SPV - Until now I have resisted the phone/PDA combination. I would advise you to get the PDA you really want adn get a good deal on your phone rates with another "cool" phone that is smaller and easier to use. But it is not what you wanted to hear I suppose ..... ?
I reply:
On the surface, it's not what I wanted to hear - but - it has made me realise something. Orange *will* subsidise my SPV phone, unfortunately no-one will subsidise me simply buying a PDA(!).
One thing - the SPV has an excellent (and fast) tool in the Contacts list. You start typing someone's name using T9 (predictive), and it treats the stored names, surnames and telephone numbers in the contacts list as the available dictionary. As you type each letter, the available options narrow down. Just like T9 for writing SMSs, it's a huge improvement over multitap.
Anyway, I decided to go with the SPV E200 and:
A much better screen than my T68i
A much better keyboard than my T68i (the SPV keys need less pressure - this makes texting and everything easier)
A more responsive O/S. (The T68i's annoying lag to do anything was very... annoying.)
An email app
MP3 player
Reliable and fast calendar/email/contacts syncing.
Camera & video (fun gimmick)
Vastly reduced battery life (Doh!)
Paying more money (Doh!)

I have some bad news for you I think. I had an SPV for 12 months and was never able to get it to talk to my Psions, using both the Psion provided links and tools provided by 3rd parties.
I'm sure you'll not want to hear this either but I have just gone back to a Nokia 6310i because the SPV, while great at accessing the internet and email, was just useless as a phone. I personally need something reliable when making calls - the original SPV just wasn't.
Sorry to be so negative but I just tell it like it is.
I reply:
Thanks for this - thankfully I don't think your negativity applies so much to my phone! You must have had the original SPV. Since then Orange & Micro$oft have released the SPV E100(?) and my version, the SPV E200. At both stages, siginficant improvements have been made. I have no complaints about the phone-only features. (That said, for me SMSing, emailing and MP3 are as important as the phone aspect.)
It's frustrating that Psions and SPVs don't chirrup to each other directly. Instead I'll need to keep both of them synced to Outlook.
Cheers,
Richard

Indeed. I am glad my pointless message managed to make sense to you (jic it didn't: I meant I just wish you left Owen and his sigs in peace, please).
Incidentally, your post *was* entertaining and I am amazed and envious that you can produce text at the rate you mentioned. Must be quite annoying at times, though ;-)

PS: BTW; Owen, where do you get that stuff? I mean the sigs: do you collect them or do yyou have a DB?

Subject: PsiWin 2.3.3 Problem(s)
After effecting the installation of PsiWin 2.3.3 on a new hard disk I
find I have two problems.
1. In spite of the fact that I get the wiggly line on the system tray
it does not wiggle nor does the system connect.
2. On trying to uninstall (to put on an earlier verson of PsiWin) I
find that I get the message "Windows is using psconsv.exe close the
program and try again" or words to that effect.
I can see no way of closing this program down.
Suggestions please.

Hi Keith,
The reason that your Add/remove icon has 'gone mono' is because another application has added it's own Add/remove program (aka. InstApp) to your machine - presumably when something was installed from a PC - and this version of InstApp has a monochrome icon.
The solution is simple. Goto c:\System\Controls and delete the InstApp.aif and InstApp.Ctl files. Both these files are already in your machine's ROM so they don't need to be on your c: drive - and the version in your ROM is in colour. Now opening your Control Panel will automagically reveal Add/remove is in colour again! :¬)

Subject: MC218 CD
I have just realised that my 2nd hand MC218 didn't come with its CD.
Can some kind soul from the list (preferably in the UK) send me a copy? I will send you a CD or just pay for the one that you burn, plus of course your postage and packaging costs.
Thanks

I've been reading press releases about the Invair Filewalker for two years now - but I have yet to find a single user evaluation. Please tell us your impression if you're able to get your hands on one of these mysterious machines ... I'd like to know more about it.

Subject: GPRS cards in NetBook
I recall reading about using Vodafone GPRS cards in a NetBook. What sort of card should I ask Vodafone to supply? Which ones are known to work, and which not - seeing this is going to cost around 200! What other software should I install?
Thanks in advance
Philip
