Armin, no, FastBackup *does* check the battery level (since the second release).  However it is not that simple, because I do not know what battery level below which disk corruption can occur (and in theory EPOC should never allow this to happen anyway).

Also, he was using another backup program, which MAY not have a battery check.

Subject: Psion PC card modem adaptor

When I purchased my second hand Psion 5, with it was a "black box" labelled PSION PC CARD MODEM ADAPTOR suitable for Series 5 for use with series 3c, part no 2501-0224, battery powered, for use with Type11 PC card modems. The Modem has no batteries with it as the previous (original) owner didn't use it. Is this of any use to anyone out there?  Any reasonable offer accepted. You can either e-mor phone (01993 700081) (Witney Oxon.)

Chris Handley wrote ......"I understand that the Etrex models are aimed at beginners, and therefore don't have lots of super complex stuff that tech-heads can fiddle with, nor do they have the ability to store road maps downloaded from a computer, but otherwise they are fully functional."

When I bought my Etrex Legend  a couple of years ago, the etrex series consisted of....

Etrex

Etrex Venture (1mb)

Etrex Legend (8mb)

Etrex Vista (24mb)

All but the base model allowed you to download maps from a pc, but they had to be purchased seperately (Mapsource). The available memory determined the number of maps that could be simultaneously loaded. I have found this page comparing the current line up, including the camo.

Subject: ongoing connection problem

Yes it's me again, still with the same connection problem I have had for the last 6 months and no closer to solving it.

I have been able to transfer files using my brother's computer which was able to connect to it just fine.  I haven't been able to synchronise my diary though which is really frustrating though.

However, tonight, I went to connect to my brother's PC and it appeared to do it OK, but in My Psion it still comes up as "not connected".  The same after a reboot.

The PSIwin connection line on the task bar shows that it is connected (which is more than mine does) and it doesn't come up with any message to say it can't connect, so it obviously thinks it's connected OK.

The difference to my brother's computer is that he has just installed a new printer which is on a USB connection.

Now there is a link here to my problem, which occurred when I was having a problem with an external hard drive also with a USB connection.  Could there be something about the USB ports that disrupts ordinary serial COM connections?

Any ideas?

Neil

Jan. JBStopGo os undoubtedly a good app, but it wont work for what I want to do.

Vlad and Chris. Thanks for the advice on the Etrex screens. They sound much the same as my non-Etrex, non-mapping Garmin. Trying to download the manual is a nightmare as I am trying to do it from a netBook. Once you get to the download page, there is some information on the left hand side of the page but no link. It took me some time to work out that I had to turn off the images, the link then becomes visible. Once the download (you actually can only choose open or cancel) starts the PDF can be seen growing in system\apps\opera\cache4\ then PDF+ opened and unfortunately dsiplayed a Nokia instruction manual file that was the last file I had opened in this app. Going back to the system\apps\opera\cache4\ folder I found that the pdf that I had downloaded had just disappeared. As I have said previously the netBook is not the ideal tool for surfing the net.

Anyone that is interested! I have used both the Cisco Aironet 350 and 340 with success, the latter, only once build OS158 was introduced. I have to admit that neither worked under WEP so I used inputting, and therefore authorising, of the MAC addresses to try to keep out those that would try to get into my home network. Not that there was anything of much interest on any of the computers to be honest. I am sure that the security side of things whilst important is over-hyped. We all know that there is very little way of truly securing a computer or computer system. The determined will get in. Don't let the security keep you awake at night. You are possibly less important than you think you are in the grand scheme of things!

Chris. The backups have taken a backward step with some sort of corruption in Macro5 judging by the error message "error in Macro5\FGMacro does not exist". Closing all of the apps prior to the backups starting definitely made a difference, and I would agree that a backup from a single drive would be the way forward. I have wanted to keep a password protected encrypted database of PIN numbers on the C: drive as I believe that if I were to lose the netBook, and the batteries were alowed to run down completely, the file would be lost completely. I can't think of better security! I keep all of my data files on D: Some of them change regularly, which I know is not the best way of doing things, but I like to keep as few files on C: as possible. Thanks for the macro, a simple solution to my app opening files problem.

Armin. Jeeves has difficulty with technology - unlike his master of course!

PDFs. All of my PDFs used to show a question mark instead of the PDF icon. I have no recollection of purposely doing something, but one day they changed to PDF icons. Is that spooky!?

I have received the last dozen or so Digests now in full - possibly the problem has now been resolved?
