Hi Guys,

Just to clarify a few things:-

> I gave that a try - installed the "old" fix version - it told me I had > a

newer version installed and did I want to overwrite it - yes. When I >

started up Macro5, I got a message "Incompatible OPX version". So

Macro5 works once again.

That's because the new version of Macro5 also expects the new version of

Macro5Lib to be installed.  If you want to test it with the old version of

Macro5Lib, the thing to do is install the old version of Macro5

*and* the old version of Macro5Lib (you'll probably have to un-install the

new version of both first).

Well, it's not really true to say that Pascal is 'back in business'. He's

effectively retired from the scene but has agreed to take an advisory role

with us at FreEPOC to help out ocassionally with his programs (which he's

handed over to us).  He's credited on the site and in the programs because of

course the bulk of the work is (originally) his and he still owns the

original copyright - and because it's only fair and reasonable.  However, I

don't think he has any real desire to be inundated with requests/email/etc.

and I'd ask people to respect

that since he's been kind enough to give his programs a new future.

I've nominally 'taken over' the ER5 version of Macro5 (i.e. others will

probably work on the ER6, etc. versions) and this includes Macro5Lib. If I

could properly understand what the 'fix' is (it's not at all clear on Jason

Kneen's site) then I'd be happy to build it into the next version of Macro5.

I'm not clear whether it really is a fix for Macro5 either - or as has been

suggested, a CronTab issue.  I guess I ought to install CronTab myself and

have a play...  ;¬)

Best regards,

Martin Guthrie

I haven't had SaveMail on my machine for a while, do you have to archive each

message individually via a macro or does it run as a standalone application.

I would imagine that each of the data files are stores as EPOC data files. If

this is the case I think I would still have to convert them anyway to move

them to a universal format that could be referenced on Windows, Linux, OS X,

Palm etc. After I wrote my initial post I was able to put together all the

bits in MS Access to import the MailtoArc output as a table. This can then be

printed as a report that can be laid out to look like an email printout with

all the usual headings. As I have Acrobat on the machine at work I can

generate a PDF file from that.

If I do move to another PDA family (not a Cliι now I guess) it should only

take a minute or so to archive the mail.

I would add one that I unearthed recently. DaFont (http://www.dafont.com/en/)

does fonts for both Mac and Windows and they are free.

The only word of caution I would add about going font crazy on an EPOC device

is that they don't always display well on the screen. Under about 14 points

they can often look a little unclear. The native fonts always seem to display

well at all sizes. Fonts installed via FontMachine do print well via the PC

at all sizes (assuming they have been installed via PsiWin).

In my case this has meant that I have never been able to find a good sans

serif monospaced font to replace courier. My usual desktop fonts (Andale Mono

or Monaco) just don't look right at small sizes.

THE CF IS DYING. IMMEDIATELY BUY A NEW ONE AND BACKUP EVERYTHING BEFORE ALL

Hi, boys,  pls, calm down, it is an old story, and could have found *the*

workaround in the digest arcives. Once more.

1. When the "Open" "Cancel" window opens do nothing. The download started

already automatically.

2. The only thing you have to do is to go to the Opera cache folder and

Copy-Paste the file wherever you wish. I use a "File Link" to do it prompt

from the Documents folder (and I keep an other Link in the cache folder to

come back, but you can rely on Ctrl+B, too)

3. In the new folder give the PDF file an appropriate filename.

4. And now you may close Opera (and empty the cache).

(Do not push the offered "open" button to open the PDF file in Opera, it'll

open your last opened PDF file and confuses PDF application, crashes Opera

etc)

Hi,

the point is you do NOT need any special fonts. The "true type" and "type1"

fonts can be used directly from your PC. Just copy the *.ttf or *pfb (no

*.pfm needed, no built in Adobe metric recognition built in font machine)

files to your ER5 machine, and "Add new" them in FM.

Generally I would agree with this but it doesn't have to be the case. Using a

mobile phone as connection is best limited to email and occasional use. On

the other hand a netBook with a Gold card modem is easily comparable to the

performance of a desktop (apart from screen space).

Subject: new Palm OS release

A bit OT perhaps but there was some discussion about the new multitasking

Palm OS 6 about a month ago. I have been asking in a store when the new

models are expected and was told by someone who seemed to be quite competent:

there is no official date yet

they don't expect new OS 6 models this year (beginning of next year is likely)

OS 6 will only be used in the top range models (e.g. Tungsten)

cheaper models will continue to use the present OS 5xx

Maybe other parts of the world will see earlier releases but for those

considering to buy a palm it should be useful to know that you'll have to

wait more than six months for an opportunity to spend a lot of money on OS 6

while you can buy now for considerable less OS 5xx which will be continued

(=supported) anyway.

Re: Old posts about entering passwords on the Switch On screen.

If you have the password Bananarama, but you can't type it because the "a"

key doesn't work, you might be able to: Connect the Psion up to a PC, type

"a" on the PC, and maybe CopyAnywhere will put an "a" into the Psion

clipboard.  If so, you could then paste it into the password field.  If this

worked for "a", it might well work for letters b-z inclusive.  ;-)

The technique might work the other way, letting you very easily break all

sorts of Psion passwords.   But probably not.

I've been away for two weeks and just read the above.  No time to find your

e-mail address or it's URL today.  I'll contact again soon.

I've been using PsiGar5 and before that PsiGar(3) with my Garmins - GPS-75

and eMap.
