I've tried that but i`ll try again, perhaps w. more luck_

5MXpro  NOT printing w. Infrared Printer Link on Canon BJC2100

In the printer panel: tried all drivers. Paper: A4, print using: infrared. MX

Communication: off, IPL 9V battery is at 8,5V.

The 5MX in any program shows the printing progress bar, the IPL blinks, but

the BJC doesn't stir.

Anyone? Many thanks!

Re: Mail Archiving

>>>I haven't had SaveMail on my machine for a while, do you have to archive

each message individually via a macro or does it run as a standalone

application.<<<

Ciao Steve,

IMHO, the best way to use Save Mail is to let the application automatically

archive a group of messages.

I estimate in 25 messages the number of emails to be archived each session.

After the 25th one, in fact, the Epoc Data File starts a compression routine,

so it is better that Save Mail stops working earlier. As a result, the ER5

machine can work at night time or any time in which his owner does not need

to use the device for a little while.

What I like of Save Mail - beyond its automatic archiving routine - is also

the ability of archiving attachments separately by messages.

to make one example, every day I have to send some messages to customers with

PDF attachments such as technical data sheets, which I store in a dedicated

folder. By archiving the attachments separately from the messages I can

delete the former ones and keep just the latter ones, without unnecessary

waste of disk (D) space.

cheers

Subject: Apology - Java

Humble apologies to those that have wondered who Mr NO Spam is. It is only

me!! I have had so much spam in the past that I had to change email addresses

as I was unwilling to pay for some sort of spam protection, something that

should be addressed by ISPs and the legal system as far as I am concerned. I

have munged the address on the netBook to try to disguise where the emails

have come from. When I "HAVE" to or "WANT" to give out my address I send the

email through the system in a different "profile" so as to include the

address. Due to some difficulties in my personal life recently my brain has

been more addled than usual and I forgot to alter the sending profile on a

couple of occassions as well as changing the subject changing the subject

line.

I have downloaded a .java file from the internet, bclock.java. It is the code

for a Berlin Clock application. I am aware that this application is available

in EPOC, but I am keen to experiment with java applications to see what will

run on the netbook. Can someone tell me how to run this file?

Is anyone aware if a binary clock was ever written for EPOC? These are really

fascinating to watch. Although I have seen a number of implementations, the

best as far as I am concerned is 5 leds for the minutes and 4 leds for the

hours. Would this be monsterously difficult for one of our programming gurus

to program? I think I might give it a go in Sheet. I know that its going to

be really awful, but it will fill in a quiet Saturday evening!

My Mac Powerbook has still not arrived. "Despatched today for delivery in 5-7

days", has become "we couldn't ship it as the order was incomplete". This has

now changed to "when we refer to 5-7 days we mean working days".

I lent my laptop to a friend so that she had something to use as a mature

student at Glasgow Uni on her HNC course. She has done well to resist

infection, the laptop not my friend, but she finally succumbed to a porn

dialler (XXX Dialler). As it happens, she connects to the net through a LAN

cable and the modem is not connected, but it has truly screwed up the

computer. I might not be immune running OSX, but I will not have to put up

with half of the crap, (viruses, worms, diallers etc), that I have had to

under Windows, both as a user and as someone who supported the platform.

As mentioned some time ago, I have upgraded from a T68i to the Orange SPV.  I

still have the T68's MP3 player - does anyone want it?  According to a

someone (from ages ago) on this Digest it would also be compatible with a

P800 or P900.

It also doubles as a hands-free kit as the earphones have a microphone.

For free, you will get the player itself, earphones, the install CD disc and

a parallel port SD card writer.  I'll also pay the postage - I'm sure it

won't cost too much.  (Or I might post it from work.)

Note:  *Some* people (including me) found that the MP3 had one really bad

flaw - the connection would break *far* too easily.  Sometimes it would take

the gentlest of touches to break the connection.  On my phone it was just

about unusable unless it was sat on a desk not moving.  Very, very annoying.

You might get the same problems with it on your phone, you might not.  (Sound

quality was really good.)  Anyway, email me off-digest and I'll post it out

to you.

Subject: PsiGar5

Greetings Chris,

Further details as promised.

Psigar can be found at:-

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jonathan.duff/

As well as downloading waypoints you can save tracks, routes and the SV's

almanac.  All can later be uploaded to the GPS.  Waypoints can be edited or

you can start a new waypoint file.  Pressing the space can can mark a new

waypoint and with a keyboard enter the name a lot faster now that new GPSRs

have lost the fuller keypad that made naming easier in the past.

Waypoint files can be converted to RealMaps, PCX5 and Route Planner.

A Psion's time can be set to GPS time.  More important with EPOC machines as

their clocks are not as good at time keeping as on a 3a.

I've found the ability to download a whole track when the memory in the GPS

is filled.  When on holiday, I always keep a full record of my travels in

Europe.  Once when I had my films developed (now history) we could not

remember which German town we were in for a number of prints.  After a few

days, I realised that the answer was on my 5.

Hope this helps,

>>There are some DOS-tool which can convert a windows font file into a epoc

font file (gdr). Sorry, I'm to tired to search for it now (3 o'clock and I've

drunken too much beer), but I think I found it on the same page as 'fload'.

I have tried it a long time ago, it works so far but I got for example a not

really perfect comic font which was bigger than the example comic-gdr

delivered with the converter tool. But if you try a little around, you will

probably be able to convert every font you want.

(There are also a epoc app to design whole font types completely at a psion.

I'v decided to get my handwriting into a font but sadly never did it till

now:)

The AC/DC adaptor for my Revo is very heavy. Last year I went on holiday with

the 5mx serie but the screen cable has gone so I am back to my Revo. Is there

any lightweight alternative to the cumbersome adaptor?

Subject: CF MBook to 5MX

I was happier than a clam.  The MBook 5mx combo the best since sliced bread.

I had my data on my CF and moved it between the machines and was always "up

to date", backing up the CF onto a CF in my E drive in case of the

unthinkable.

My logic was that I've had the 5mx fail many times but never a major failure

on a CF.

It happened.  It happened when I was  six days beyond my last backup.  I was

running Rolf's stripper program (pulling email addresses of of a 490 field

database) and the MBook hiccuped.  The screen said corrupt CF.

Nothing I could do would restore the CF so finally reformatted it.  Not much

major loss (a minor update here, another there) as I routinely backup after a

major project, but Itamar was so right.  Data on C drive only.

I am back to using my CF drives for backup and archived data files (copied on

CFs on both D and E) and to move my complete documents folder from the MBook

(my primary machine) to my 5mx (secondary - walking around machine).

By the way, being paranoid, I was on a wall wart while using Rolf's program

so it wasn't a matter of low battery whilst running off of the CF.
