Kevin,

please recommend a free ISP in that country to enable me obtain internet
access via local calls, please? <<
If you go to www.freepass.it and click on "abbonati subito" (register
immediately) you'll be able to get internet access as well as an e-mail
address for free. We stayed in Italy for 9 months 2 years ago, and used
this service without a flaw. At that time I checked out and considered
several Italian internet services, this was by far the best. Have a nice
stay, you'll definitely enjoy it!!

to receive files with the nirc, as you can do from mirc for windows? Do you
know anithing about that?

On my way to Orlando next month, and I want to work out a way of

it's possible to buy PAYG SIMs in the Orlando area? We all have tri-band
phones already.
Thanks!

Hi Folks,
For entirely nice reasons I sent an eMailthe
address posted in Alexander's programs. I couldn't find another eAddress on
his website.
This eAddress no longer appears to exist according to the return.
If Alexander reads this (or it is referred to him) he ought get in touch
with me through my website (http://www.aypee2.net/email.html). Alternately,
if someone has his current eAddress could they send it to me. Believe me,
there are no contentious issues involved, just something he should be told
about his Geocities website (there are links using "\" but it should be "/").
Happy days,
Phil.

Hi Itamar and others multipasters,
Itamar just suggested for copying Data entry(ies) from (Savemail) Data file:
>>>to use the macros "COCOPAPA" ......
first copy all the fields, than change to the other data file and paste
each field in the right place. I've put the macros in macro5 and a quick
FN+w and p does the copying and Fn+w and v does the pasting.<<<<
Re:
There already has been a lot of Digest posts about multicopy-paste
macros/apps...
I tried many (7?) of them until I recently found and now use
ClipboardHistory
by Christopher Steven Handley chris.s.handleyATbtinternet.com
http://email.cshandley.co.uk
It automatically keeps a record of each last item*s* you (Ctl+c) copied;
you don't have to switch between your successive clipboards until you
choose (Ctl+/) to paste (Ctl+v) from any earlier clipboard(s).
A breeze! Thanks Christopher!

Subject: Compuserve Classic U.S. Login Help
Hi, All,
Through Mike McConnell's helpful Compuserve Classic scripts, I've put
together a log-in for access in the U.S., but still no joy.
I'm using the updated command NOINT/PPP:CISPPP"+<0x0d>, which replaces the
old go:pppconnect"+<0x0d>, but while the log-in display window pops up, the
script is still hanging on the step of SEND CIS ID. Because I've inserted
the login steps one-by-one, I know the script works until this point.
I've slowed down the Wait from 10 to 20 to 60, but to no avail.
I can access CIS with a similar log-in script and same access number for my
Jornada 720, HPCPro OS without a problem, so I know it's a Psion-specific
problem.
Here's the current script:
start:
LOOP 3
{
SEND <0x0d>
WAIT 20
{":" CIS}
}
EXIT KErrTimeOut$
CIS:
SEND "CIS"+<0x0d>
WAIT 20
{":" login}
EXIT KErrTimeOut$
[THIS IS WHERE IT HANGS]
login:
SEND MYCIS,NUMBER$+"/NOINT/PPP:CISPPP"+<0x0d>
WAIT 20
{":" password}
EXIT KErrTimeOut$
password:
SEND MY/PASSWORD$+<0x0d>
EXIT
failure:
EXIT KErrLoginFail$
If anybody can offer some advice, I'd be very grateful.

Cheers Will.
I found the Sherlock Holmes webpages and downloaded the first MP3 with John
Guilgud and Ralph Richardson. It's a classic.
I have yet to find many useful sites to download movies from. If any
enterprising Psioneer has discovered some I would love to know where they
are. Sadly my time for experimentation has expired. The school summer
holidays beckon and paternal duties absorb almost every spare minute until
September.
The PsiLinux list has been very active of late, I follow only
intermittently but I have picked up that there has been great progress on
PCMCIA: CF and WiFi now works; and that there is possible source of other
Linux source built for other ARM chips. With so much activity it would be
interesting to get succinct update of where we are.

Fredrik,
This is a simple one. City Maps installation has a bub. It installs tha
application on the \System\Apps\Street directory and the maps in the
\System\Apps\Citymaps directory!
Luckily, the solution is simple. Just move the contents of the Citymaps
directory to the Street directory and there you have it! Each time you
install a new map, just remember to move the contents of the Citymaps
directory to the street directory and it all works like a dream!
Route and Citymaps do integrate quite well and for long journeys is better
for planning then you can switch to the local City map through Route Planner.

from the TomTom Cityplanner CD.
Karsten, I have the same version as you have for Routeplanner and I don't
have Citymaps, I stopped at Streetplanner 2000. I don't think there were
any further updates on the programs, but there were new maps that might be
able to be used with our programs, but not sure.

Re. Epoc-chat - It is interesting to see that we can still learn new things
concerning our Psions. I never knew there was a life Epoc chat every week

TO ALL
There's been recent discussion of Tom Tom CityMaps. I'd be really grateful
if someone could say how the map files can be installed from a
Macintosh. I can transfer the .sis files, etc. manually, but the maps defy
me. When I bought my CityMaps a couple of years ago, I didn't realise that
the wretched Tom-Tom do not provide (at least in this
case) for Mac users. At that time I meekly took the disk and my Psion to a
friend with a PC, and (somehow) installed the program and a few cities for
use in England and Switzerland.
That installation (on my Series 7) has now disappeared because of various
mishaps to the machine. I need a fresh install - preferably without the
services of a PC - on my mBook (which is supposed to arrive
tomorrow!). Does anyone know of a way to achieve this?
Curiously, when I bought Route Planner on line, at about the same time,
they kindly gave me a special download site for the Macintosh version (so
that's OK). But CityMaps came from a local dealer on disk and
seems utterly resistant to Macintosh.

I think Psion to Psion variations are pretty unlikely (electronics are
predictable).
Battery variation can be ignored at a first approximation, since the whole
point of measuring voltage levels is to account for battery
variability. (A second approximation would worry about how fast voltage
level dropped for a given current demand on different batteries; you'd
probably allow for this by simply having a larger minimum voltage.)
The only plausible variation I can think of is that different CF cards have
different minimum voltages for writing, and that Psion only designed the
Series 5 to handle *their* CF cards.

This has been covered before, so sorry. At work my PC has got only 1 serial
port and I now have to use that port for a card reader for the new Barclays
Bank Business Master internet connection. This means I can't connect my

Is it possible to make the connection via an USB-Serial adaptor and use
Psiwin ? How do you set Psiwin to recognise the port ?

Subject: how do I get a "repaired Psion" repaired?
I'm a little frustrated. I've just gotten my Psion Series 5 MX returned, in
theory repaired. I was told that if I had any questions I could either
phone 44 ()) 870 608 0680 or try the internet,
http://www.psion.com/mypsion/repair.asp
To save money (and time) I tried the web site but it leads to a digest -
that is to you folks.
The repair returned a Psion with no backlight ! In addition, and probably
it was too much to hope for, the "unexpected reset" wiped out all the
massive amounts of data stored on the Psion and it does seem totally gone.
I had foolishly thought that data stored was safe.
OK, so the data is gone, and I've wisely shifted to an alternative device
(a Clie put out by Sony).
But I still have the Psion, which I paid $175 to have repaired and which
returns with no backlight!
To whom can I appeal? Or send the machine for this repair? As it stands, it
was $175 down the drain.

Subject: Revo - T610 GPRS Connectivity
Fellow Psionistas and Experts in Revo Connectivity:
A few months ago, I convinced my in-laws (both of them) to get a
Psion Revo as a personal organizer. They see me all the time with my 5mx
and were easily convinced. However, I am now paying the price of doing so.
My in-laws have presumable run into the dreaded revo battery problem (seems
strange as one is a regular 8mb revo and the other one is a Mako).
In any case, they returned the Revos to me in order to try to
find out what is wrong with them. After stabilizing their batteries, and
making sure they hold a charge, I need to test them in the real world to get a
feel for them and for the battery duration. To do this, instead of lugging
a Revo and a 5mx around, I transfered most of my more critical files to the
Revo so I can use it effectively. However, I have been unable to get either
of the Revos to connect via infrared to my Ericsson T610 to fetch my mail.
I should add that I am trying to access the internet via GPRS. The phone is
enabled, my account is enabled. So much so, that I use it without a hitch
with my 5mx.
On the Revo side, I have used the same modem and internet
settings as with the 5mx. I also installed on the Revo the mobile GPRS
connectivity update, did a soft reset, to no avail. The Revo connects with
the phone,
the phone detects the IR exchange, but unlike when I dial with the 5mx,
when the Revo tries to connect to the phone, the phone displays *9***4#
which is the number to dial sequence (when connecting successfully from the
5mx to GPRS the phone just says "connecting"). Afterwards, the Revo
disconnects and gives an error "Problem communicating to Remote Mailbox.
Problem Communicating with Internet Service's modem. Call was unexpectedly
dropped".
So, thus I am stuck in this area. It has to be something wrong in
the Revo in my opinion, as the 5mx works with the phone. Well, I implore
your help as this Psion issue can easily become a marriage issue! :)
Thank you in advance,
Manuel Campos

Subject: transferring data and citymaps to Palm 5.0
Hello everyone
I picked up a Palm Tungsten 2 for £60 at a Dixons fire sale last week. I
couldn't resist it; but now I am in Psion pergatory. I want to keep using
the psion 5mx, using the palm as a glorified address book and database. The
things I use most are data files for all my addresses and useful
references. But how the hell do I get data across to the palm in a form
that is still data looking? I have suceeded in transferring data files into
excel, but I guess I need a Palm database program that can deal with
importing. Please, any suggestions? And I presume that trying to
synchronise the palm and the psion via a PC is out of the question? I have
had limited success moving citymaps application on to the palm, but it
doesn't recognise the maps on the CD. Any workarounds for this? Is there
any way to get my old tom tom GPS (the one with the magnet on the roof!) to
work with a palm via an adaptor? I'm sorry for all this Palm stuff on the
digest, but I'm sure some of you will have been through the mill... maybe I
should just stick with old faithful...

Unfortunately (when taking up Psions) most of my professional programming
was in BASIC and Assembler, where C never had any advantages.
