Hi Moshe,
I suspect that the problems you've had are not related except as a
coincidence. Moonclock is stable on this 5mx but simply won't run on my other
(I think it clashes with PsiLoc+). I've never heard of it corrupting anything.
Happy days,
Phil.

Besides the macro cocopapa and ClipboardHistory
you can find Multiclip by Ceesoft which I found when browsing on over
www.mypsion.ru
I do not remember the exact url for downloading it but I am pretty confident
that King Midas - webmaster at Mypsion.ru - would be receiving
the Epoc Digest and help us in finding the url again.

Subject: Routeplanner
Hello fellow Psioneers.
Thanks for all help with my migration of RoutePlanner from old to new 5mx.
Now I have another question.
I have read that newer TomTom maps for Palm can be used on an 5mx. There
being no .sis file on the CD to install them to EPOC, how is it done?
Greetings, Nils Langeland

Subject: CF Cards and Speeding up a NetBook
Just though I would share this with the Digest!
I have been running my NetBook with a SanDisk 512MB CF card for some time and
decided to go up to the next size and chose a Sandisk Ultra II 1GB CF card.
Both were used formatted out of the box. The 1GB card's write speed just
over 3 times the speed of the older card and the read speed is closer to 8
times the speed! This has made a significant difference to the speed of most
of my applications since most are run from the D: Drive - even
Opera runs faster!
It has been a very worth while upgrade! One I can recommend to all 5MX,
Series 7 and netBook users.

David Steer

Itamar,
I use Belkin's USB to Com port adaptor with only minor problems - sometimes
it does not connect properly when I activate the Psion Link (adaptor powers
off!) this only happens rarely, though I did go through problems earlier
and a remapping of the COM port solved this. The drivers that come with the
device allow you to map to a COM port (i.e. COM4) then in PsiWin, you set
this as the port and everything works like the com port!

Re.: Nokia takes on Microsoft in mobile laptop market - Our "sister digest"
at psionwelt.de gave the following two websites :
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=17073
http://www.golem.de/0407/32241.html
The first one gives the article and the second one a link to the article in
German. However they wrote further that Golem.de spoke to a representative of
Nokia who informed them that the Fins are not working on a machine as
described by he Inquirer. Nokia will continue to develop handys and
smartphones.

way, as you note Chris does not have his email address shown in the digest

Re.: Backup with low battery - But do the nB and mB really measure the
voltage or do they, like the 5MX / S5, approximate the usage of the machine
with the state of the battery charge ? Could this be a reason for variation ?
Answer to: David Mcreynolds
Re.: repaired Psion - If the repair was not handled to your satisfaction why
don't you put in a claim and send it back to them again ? Surely one should
not accept unacceptable work and pay another Company to repair it again ?
By the way, this digest reminds the subscribers quite regularly to make
regular back ups of all data. How come you did not have any back-up
? Please not that your Sony Clie is also only a computer and also needs to
be backed up regularly. I own a Sony Clie too and I think you can't compare
the two.

Subject: Sitashop; mBook; Copy & Paste; Gold Card; SanDisk 256MB card
Those Digesteers who have been interested will be glad to know that Sitashop
seems to be fully back in business. My mBook, ordered on 31 May, has arrived
and is in good order except that there is no little name plate above the
keyboard, so that a screw and a kind of window into the interior are exposed
(which I suppose is not usual).
I don't want to waste space, but I'd be grateful for advice which anybody
might be able to give on these oddities:
1. I work in Disk C, and back up, using Copy & Paste, to D and E. From
previous experience (5mx, 7), when a file from C is pasted into another
drive, the machine gives the option of replacing or not replacing an older
version of the same file. In my mBook, my attempt to paste the updated
version immediately resets the computer: it is necessary to delete the old
version first. Has anyone had this happen? It doesn't seem quite right!
2. As in the S7, I cannot get the Psion WAN Global PC Card, 56k + Fax,
CombineIT modem to connect to the phone line. The computer
communicates with the modem (as far as I can tell) but the modem cannot dial
out: in Comms, the message is "No dial tone". I've tried two gold cards, and
three (!) telephone cables, all from Sitashop, with no luck.
Does this suggest some incompatibility between the modem, or the cable,
and the Australian telephone system? (I expect it to be the cable wiring, if
anything, as the Australian telephone system is, I believe, practically
identical with that of the U.K..) However, both Mail and Opera work as usual
with a (virtual) Psion Travel Modem.
A pleasant surprise is that a SanDisk Ultra II, 256MB card which, in my
Series 7, corrupted every file and became itself repeatedly corrupt, works
(so far!) perfectly well in the mBook.
Clearly, life wasn't meant to be easily understood.

Thanks for that info, Peter. I did as you said and managed to register an
email address. Am I correct in thinking that this is purely webmail? I
didn't come across any POP3 or STMP settings.... basically it is the
latter, plus a dial up number, which I require: I just wish to use the ISP to
get online and retrieve my own email. I am only going on holiday.
Thanks again.

To Colin:
Take a look at www.bmwfilms.com. Here you will find a series of short films
by well known directors, such as Guy Ritchie, Ang Lee and John Woo,
produced by the likes of Ridley Scott and featuring Clive Owen, James Brown,
Gary Oldman and Madonna.
They all feature Clive Owen and a BMW of some sort, as BMW US put up the
money and are great. I just love "Beat the Devil" which even features a cameo
by Marilyn Manson.
You'll need a good broadband connection to download them but they are well
worth it.

>>>Epoc-chat - It is interesting to see that we can still learn new
thingsconcerning our Psions. I never knew there was a life Epoc chat every
week
on Sunday night at 7.00 pm on the internet. Have a look at
www.epocchat.com. Are there regular participants reading this digest thatcan
give us some more information like how many people attend, what isdiscussed,
etc. ?<<<
I'll give just a brief account about Epoc Chat since I have been frequenting
it a few times for one year now. I am pretty confident that
here at the Epoc Digest there would be many subscribers who can tell more,
more and more about it ;-)
Epoc Chat is an experience I would recommend to any committed Psion User. it
is a weekly appointment for discussing "Live" Epoc - but not only Epoc -
matters. I have often met Epoc Digest Subscribers such as Chris Handley, Euan
Mee, Keith "Ohsix" Giles, Mike Fellhauer from P.E.A.T., Thomas "Mobilix"
Ullrich, and others. it should be expected to last one hour/one hour and a
half but it may even last longer than that, depending to the particular
involvement of the participants.
people enter and leave according to their time, so you could have any number
ranging from two to let's say 8/10 people (no more), at the same time.
Among the regular hosts you have Julie Campbell (administrator at Epoc Chat
as well as moderator at Pdastreet with the "Netbookbabe" username) and
Kevin Millican (moderator at SymbianPlace - PdaStreet). Most of you already
know Kevin as the brilliant author of fine apps such as PsiDat and others.
Chris Handley created also a launcher for browsing over epoc chat with your
netBook and Lewis Barton created the icon associated with it.
If I remember correctly, Epoc Chat has collected the heritage of the very
first java room dedicated to EPOC and held by Steve Litchfield in person a
few years ago. Moreover, if the information i collected is accurate, there
used to be two chat sessions at that time: one for developers, the other
one for users. I expect that Steve is still receiving the digest and
therefore he will be able to correct me in case I was wrong.
cheers

That's encouraging. The EPOC FAQ
<http://www.epocfaq.co.uk/faqCF.htm#CFcompat> says "There is a significant
speed variation between CF cards, for example, pressing TAB to display all
the files on a 256MB card. 256MB Simple - 4 minutes
256MB Dane-Elect - 1 minute 15 seconds
256MB Viking - 1 minute
One minute is OK. 4 minutes would not be.
My main issue has been the no-brand CF cards becoming "corrupt", not speed,
though. Thanks to those who posted their brand reports.

This looks good, and is currently on clearance for US$25 direct from the
manufacturer after being discontinued:
http://store.imation.com (under "storage accessories")
If I want to use it while travelling, to e.g. transfer data to a computer at
a cybercafe (e..g to burn a CD of digital photos), do I need to carry a CD
with drivers, and install them at each cybercafe? Or can it work
without drivers, at least on Windows XP and Mac OS-X?
