Answer to Keith Giles:
>> I'm assuming the CityMaps app itself doesn't run (or not well) on a Psion, so therefore should continue using StreetPlanner. <<
On the contrary, it works like a charm. The CD contains the application in versions for 5mx/7/NetBook (actually it's different for B/W and colour), for Palm, Pocket PC and the Nokia big-brick phone (I forget the number).
>> Then there is the problem of acquiring the app. The TomTom site doesn't seem to carry CiyMaps (except for Paris). Expansys has it - they list several "versions" (Palm, Pocket PC) - all the same price. I assume it's really just the same CD no matter which version you want. <<
As said, they're all on the same CD. I verified the usefulness of the Pocket PC version on a friends PPC (what a small but readable screen it has!)

Itamar, my first approach WAS to leave open all the apps she uses. That works long enough for her to forget what needs to be open. Then one day she will have shut something down and forgotten to reopen it. So I am just trying to create a failsafe for her. She is a very smart lady but her mind and computers are in different universes. I confess I do get some satisfaction from futzing; she on the other hand is more task-oriented, at least when it comes to sitting in front of a keyboard. She is willing to explore her Psion some, but only so far . . . --Chris

In the next few weeks I will be looking to beta test TubeRoute, which is a massive update of the basic version that I made available over a year ago.
If you are interested, then please email me with at least your real name and email address! See my signature (at the bottom) for my address.
Here's a short description for anyone not familiar with TubeRoute:
It is EPOC's *only* route planner for underground railways (aka "subway", "tube" or "metro") and tram networks. It supports both textual & graphical route planning. It is fast at finding good-quality routes. It should work on any Psion. It is free & open source!
Although it currently only comes with a database for the London Underground (aka "the Tube"), it is designed to be simple to support other networks in other cities & countries. So it is quite possible for you to support your own network, if you have some interest.
It is now quite professional, and looks very similar to the following commercial program:

Answer to: Keith Giles
Re.: CityMaps - You can use Citymaps version 3.0 on your Psion, both the program and the maps, which download still as .SIS files without problems. the only difference is that the maps are put in a folder called Citymaps from where they need to be transfered to the \Street\App folder. By the way, the old maps also work with the new program. i am not sure what version the final program finished before they moved to their Navigator program and which version maps are the most updated. Does anyone has the exact details ?
Best regards,

Subject: The Quick(en) the Dead
I recently discovered that beginning with the 2005 version, Quicken no longer will use the qif format. That means unless ER5 banking app authors do an upgrade, you'll no longer be able to import qif files created in them into a Quicken program. I fear few or no authors will make the change.
As a result, until I'm forced to, I'll keep my Quicken 2004 and not upgrade. I think this sort of thing will be happening more and more.
Before you tell me - I'm not interested in MS Money program even if they keep the qif format.

Subject: Thoughts.
Hi all,
summer is here again in the U.K. and I'm leaving my coat at home when I go out. My mobile phone is in a belt case by my side but I find myself leaving my Revo+ at home because I don't want to carry a bag or wear another belt holster.
Now I have the Libretto for more serious portable usage, I sat down and thought about what I really need in a phone, and drew these conclusions:
I need my diary with me all the time.
Email access.
An eBook for quiet times.
A spreadsheet function.
Passworded file protection.
A game would be nice also.
Not being made of money I've taken the plunge and bought a Sony Ericsson P800 off Ebay. By adding Mobipocket Reader, Quicksheet, and Handysafe hopefully it will do all I require. I can keep it with me all the time, in a belt case and retire the Revo+.
More thoughts:
Suddenly 'Palmtop User' has new relevance to me, although it is too darn slim these days, my back issues have been very informative about the Symbian7 / UIQ operating system and the available software.
As has Steve Litchfield's 3lib site.
Also I'm still going to read this digest as there is a good community here and I am still interested in all things Psion. Question is, would my fellow digesteers be interested in hearing about my experiences or would you be aghast at something non epoc.
Regards,
Mike Dyer.

Good morning everybody,
Please, how can I export the fields in QuoteOn 1.3 (that is, the individual quotations) to a Window - readable format ?
I am using an Ericsson MC 218 (the 5 MX clone).
Many thanks in advance,
