Answer to: David Steer

Re.: A mysterious Web site - As to the website http://www.psixpda.com/ I sent

an email to the email address that appears on it to introduce myself as the

editor of the Digest and requesting further details. To my surprise the email

came back to me and showed the email address

This is Pinnock Organiser Services or

"POS" as we all know it. I suppose they have layed their hands on a lot of

spare parts and plan to produce new machines from these, but this is purely

speculation from my side.

However, someone was looking for a REVO. POS sells reconditioned REVO's for

Gbp 125.- including the mains adaptor, docking cradle and manual. Look at

www.posltd.com (Errrrrr, I have no relation whatsoever with them, the usual

blabla).

Re.: GPRS - One thing I can promiss you, the S7 is very easy to set up to use

GPRS. I use it all the time with my T610, both in the UK and on the

Continent, and also used it in the USA as well as in Israel.

Subject: Sony T610-thanks

Thanks to all who posted comments/info/reviews on this phone.  I got it for

my son, who needs an upgrade to a tri-band (for his projected international

travel) and this was the cheapest available from T-Mobile.  I was wondering

whether I should confiscate it for myself because of the synchro feature.

Guess not.  I'm using a Nokia 5610, and I do use the calendar feature,

infraredding appointments from my 5mx one-by-one, just so I have a handy

reminder of busy-days when I don't have the 5mx with me.  I also like the

loudspeaker feature of the Nokia, since we use this as our long-distance

call-phone.  As you can gather, I don't use the 5mx for e-mail or web-surfing

(I have a blackberry supplied by the office for e-mail, and can live without

out-of-office web-surfing), so WAP features don't matter to me. My 5mx is

primarily a sub for a laptop.  I love the keyboard, word and sheet, and the

ability to synch the calendar with Outlook on the office system.  For all the

complaining about PsiWont, it beats the blackberry synchro program hands down.

Morning all,

Is the new Orange 3G Mobile Office card compatible in any way with the

Netbook? IIRC, the NB port door must be closed to operate the PCMCIA card,

has anyone developed a workaround for this?

a Psion S7/Nokia 8210 combination?  If yes, >is the S7 easy to configure? >

Hi Kevin, first I must say I am no expert and can only comment on my own

experience!. I have used ordinary dialup access with Lineone, Force9/Plusnet,

and Ukonline for nearly three years now on their ordinary 0845 numbers with

no problems whatsoever.

This didn't even entail a call to Orange Customer Services as my simcard was

already enabled for WAP which is data after all!.

However, you are correct in saying that Orange will NOT give you a separate

fax and data line on PAYG, but that's not quite the same thing.

I read in this months PCW magazine that Orange are the only UK telephone

company that will give full GPRS access to PAYG customers, which I didn't

realise before. I just got lucky I guess.

Orange will give your sim card a free GPRS upgrade if you ask them, however

your phone MUST be GPRS capable, not just for WAP and I *believe* the 8210

does not support this.

You don't 'dial up' with GPRS, as soon as your phone is switched on in the

morning it automatically 'couples' to the GPRS network, it is actually shown

by a separate signal strength meter on the p800.

I used the Sony Ericsson wizard to get it working with my Libretto, I could

give you those settings which may help but people have talked here in the

past about using GPRS mobile phones with 5mx's so I know it's possible.

Regards,

Mike Dyer (sent from a Toshiba Libretto 70ct because it's got a proper

keyboard and is a clamshell 'sigh')

Subject: Re: Orange PAYG

Seems to be some conflicting reports here! We have a nokia 6210e and use it

with an Orange payg sim for ordinary dialup internet - freeserve - no

problems, easy to set up,  we never had to do anything to "activate" the sim

for data or anything. We've never worked out though whether we are or are not

getting the benefit of the hsdc that the phone is supposedly capable of.

On a tangent - I have twice taken the 5mx and phone to Ireland, where

checking the mail has been straightforward if rather expensive; however I

have never managed to find a way to send mail! Our usual isp is Freeserve,

which uses CLID for its smtp authoriation - presumably Freeserve logs your

number in case of spam abuse etc. - no problem normally but calling from a

roaming mobile abroad does not seem to supply the CLID to freeserve so no

sending! Anyone have a simple solution?

I tried the email link on this website - my email asking for further info was

bounced back; but look whose server it was pointing at:

"The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Its either a joke or POS Ltd are up to something!

I wish I knew. I believe that the series 80 contacts application is a direct

decendant of EPOC R5 Contacts, so you should be lucky. Can somone test this

on the emulator, please? I don't have the SDK yet but it should be free from

Symbian or Nokia.

Subject: En Route problem

Hello again!

Having just claimed to be happily managing, I now find I have problems with

En Route.  Because of broken machines, I have had to reinstall this.  Now It

seems to install properly, but when I first run it it closes with a

"KERN-EXEC, Reason number 0" error message.

Does anyone know how to rectify this, or why it has started happening?

Kit
