Subject: Cannot Start After Hard Reset
Folks, I did a hard reset of a 5mx this morning (actually, I may have done two), and have not been able to get it turnind on since.
The first reset was using the two Shift keys, plus Escape, plus the button near the backup battery. It restarted, but I wasn't sure I had the Shift keys pressed so I did it again, and it has been dead as a dodo ever since.
Any ideas, you bright people?

Here in the States, Washington State, I go to Borders Books and buy Steve's PDA Essentials. It's a great book. I try to get it each month, about $10 per issue here. I picked one in England last November and they are a bit cheaper there, which makes sense. As a matter of fact I think I like it better than Palmtop which has very little Psion or Epoc stuff anymore anyway and PDA Essentials has more variety of other PDA and Phone stuff then Palmtop, in my opinion.
Hi Marcus,
Thanks for the info. My Netbook is just about as old as yours. Mine is 2000,23rd month. I have tried everything, with great help from Ian and several other wonderful Psion owners. I am using a Buffalo card and I used, what I think are the correct settings, but still not working. I even turned off the WEP stuff to see if that was it, but nothing working. I use the same card in my laptop and it works perfectly. So I am not sure where to go from here.
Thanks,
Bob

Subject: Unable to synchronize - 'synchronization.es~' in use
Hi,
Using Psiwin, I can synchronize to my PC at work and to the laptop (one using Windows2000, the other XP - both to Outlook 2000).
When I try to synchronize to my own PC (W2K and Outlook2003), I get a message saying that 'synchronization.es~' is 'in use'.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Subject: Lieuwe de Vries
Hi Folks,
A while back Lieuwe de Vries died and his Psion legacy became unregisterable. His brother, Kees, has posted a site about his illness at <http://www.platovisit.com/posttrauma/e_index.htm> which also has a memorial page to Lieuwe.
Kees, once a SIBO programmer himself, has given permission for his brother's software to be made free and distributed. I have told Martin Guthrie who will do this to the best of his ability.
Happy days,
Phil.

Subject: Nokia 9210 E-mail[Scanned]
Kevin
Just caught up with all my e-mails after a holiday, hence delay in
responding.
The Nokia has a single messaging application which handles SMS messages
as well as multiple e-mail accounts.
It is possible to create your own folders in the e-mail applications
with Menu key, then click File, Folder, Create new folder.
Folder can be any name & created in most places including root
directory, but not in in or out box.
You can then copy/move e-mails & SMS's into or out of the new folder,
you can also setup an archive folder.
You can't copy SMS's into e-mail folders etc., or the root of any e-mail
account.
Hope this helps
Mike

Re.: Sony T610 - Phoneman Pro version 2.101F works with the T610, I use it with that phone. However, I never tried synchronising, just use it mainly for longer sms messages and to keep a copy of my phone book somewhere else than the phone (in case I lose it or gets stolen).

Hi Antony,
I understand your worry. But you can be happy: when creating the html file for the archive website, our digest-creating program is going bytewise through the whole body text buffer and, in case it finds an "....it runs the subroutine "PROC DelAddr:", which doesn't take over in the html buffer all bytes after "....up to the next space.

Thank you for your answer.
Are you using the standard Psion e mail (?is it POP) with you original e mail isp. I wished to retain my address with doctors.org.uk isp. I can still pick up mail through the Psion e mail and Cisco card but I get a failed message when I try to send. I either have to go to web based mail or I have to revert to the dial up connection to do that. I have of couse retained the incoming and outgoing SMPT servers which are unchanged from the old conventional connection. Am I missing something? Thanks

@Subject: WIN XP SP2
Hi Itamar
My company is on Windows and we are moderately comfortable with Win 2000 Professional - Psiwin works well on it!!
However, my techie keeps abreast of IT news and says that there is much chat about SP2 for Win XP. Furthermore, my colleague has experienced problems with his new XP system at home. The result was a return to PC World for a rebuild of his system.
If you've not yet installed SP2, or for others here who may yet do so, the problem is as follows.
MS have kindly supplied a firewall as part of SP2. That's fine, unless you already have a third party firewall installed and active when you install SP2. In this case, there is a real risk of confliction between the 2. The final symptom in my colleague's machine was that it would boot up beautifully, but then immediately close down! A bit like that black box who's only function was to switch off once you'd switched on!
I guess the solution might be to deactivate any firewall before installing SP2.

Subject: p800 Jot Handwriting
Hi all,
the solution to not getting a 't' when you wanted an 'l' is to draw both down the vertical stroke and continue seamlessly on the horizontal part of the 'l'.
it works for me anyway!.
Also my Orange phone account is just an ordinary voice account which they willingly added me GPRS access.
i agree with Rolfs point that i shouldn't have assumed that the original poster was U.K. based.

Subject: Psion Computer Magazine has left the building - Steve Litchfield involvement - Psion Personality of the Year
ISSUE TWO HAS SHIPPED
After a small delay :-) Issue 2 has finally been shipped to all world-wide subscribers. Hurrah!!!
I can sleep at nights again and download my emails with an easy heart. Sorry folks.
BLAME IT ON THE BOOGIE
Steve Litchfield has indeed nothing to do with the Journal (except he has kindly agreed to be the subject of 'Author in Focus' for Issue 3). I would love to blame somebody else for the problems, but there's only me. Mind you, I could blame my dog, yeah, I took him for a walk this morning and he rolled cow turds and now stinks. So I'll blame him, the reason for the delay with Issue 2 is Sam Green, a smelly black lab.
Onwards and upwards!
PSION PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR
With all the doom & gloom surrounding our beloved platform and in readiness for Christmas, I thought it would be nice to launch a new initiative, to quote the website:
"The Psion Computer Society is proud to announce the first Psion Personality of the Year Award.
The Psion version of an Oscar, awarded to the personality in the Psion world who has;
Forwarded the Psion Platform via software, hardware or some other means & remained loyal to the Psion platform.
This prestigious award will awarded to Psion Personality of the Year at the Society's Christmas meeting (see Society News for more details) and announced amongst these pages.
Nominations for the award email nominations....nominations close Halloween 2004.
The Nominees will be published 1st November 2004, with voting closing on the 31st of November 2004."
The nominations only opened yesterday and already I have the greatest pleasure to announce the first nomination;
Kevin Millican (all nominators kept anonymous, try saying that after a few beers!).
The winner of the award will receive a cup (a suitably Psion golden affair) and most importantly recognition and thanks for her/his contribution to our wonderful Classic Psion OS/SIBO/EPOC platform.
Nominations to nominations....
Viva La Psion!

Subject: jRC4 p800 pc edition
Hi all,
has anyone else on the list used the jRC4 pc .jar file successfully?.
Despite a lengthy 12MB+ download from sun.com I have been unable to get this to run, it just says 'invalid or corrupt file'.
I have emailed the author but he has not as yet replied.
