Hi all,

Itamar I have looked up the model of my phone holder it is an HCH-30.

I also bought an accessory kit from m-99.com for the princely sum of £9.95p which gave me a 12v lead,  case, and headset, also a bracket which I didn't trust so therefore didn't use.

Mike Dyer

Owen,

>>> Can you all please refrain from adding words like > "Anti-v..gr." and other words that will cause SPAM > checkers to reject the digest ?

I understand that this may cause problems for the digest crew, but this problem is in the stupid SPAM checkers, not my text. I do not accept consorship whether it's from a person or a machine. There are many valid reasons for mentioning this medical product in an e-mail and it is not my fault that some people have decided to abuse the e-mail system for economic gain.<<

Don't be so pedantic. This is not "censorship", this is a simple request by the Digest Administrators to help them avoid problems. While I agree that there may be valid reasons for mentioning the unmentionable in an email, that would not appear to be the case here.

>>The people who are using SPAM checkers to filter their e-mail should find a better system, starting with keeping their e-mail addresses off the www and out of the claws of the spambots. Prevention is always better than cure. In my case this has proved 100% effective and I receive e-mails from all my family and friends as well as this digest with no limitations on what the can write about.<<

On the subject of prevention, this is easier said than done. We recently created an email alias on my wife's email account, and within a week we were receiving spam on it, despite this new address being unused and (apparently!) unknown to anyone, other than ourselves and our Internet provider.

Given the problem with spam, there is no reason why users should not set up their email progams to reject any email containing certain terms. Furthermore, you need to bear in mind that many Internet providers use their own spam filters, which users do not necessarily have much, if any, control over.

Cheers, Ian.

Re.: nokia-7710 - Thanks for the info. It certainly looks impressive but my first reaction is, where is the phone control ? Do you really want to do everything with touch control and no "normal" number buttons ? The screen certainly looks impressive and a useful size for horizontal reading. However, without a keyboard the Microsoft documents compatibillity is not useful for me. Personally I still believe that the cameras in these phones are not more than toys as they cannot take a decent quality picture (as a professional photographer). But, it looks interesting and shows in a way the direction mobeile phones will take in the future.

Re.: p910 Sms Counter  - This is NOT true, it does have a counter in the right hand top. It has a word and a message counter, for example if you typed 95 characters it will show 95/1, if you typed over 160 it will show something like 23/2.

Answer to: Chris and Steve Litchfield

Re.: Palmtop Mag - I tend to agree with Steve. The EPOC platform has stopped to develop beyond a few exceptions of enthousiasts like Chris and Martin for example. Soon the repair facillities will stop their operations and spare parts will disappear, leaving us all prone to irreversible break-downs of our EPOC machines. Furthermore, our EPOC machines lack the new functions like bluetooth etc. While I will continue to use my mBook as long as it will work (and still have a S7 spare) I appreciate that Palmtop User has moved on in "life". I am slowly starting to get used to and improve on my usage of the P910 and therefore continued my subscription to this magazine.

Re.: Check your text - My message was a request, you can either accept it or not, but I don't think you can call it "censorship".

Answer to: Neville Smith

Re.: Navigating Without Touchscreen - There are several solutions possible. There are codes you can use with the Ctrl button. However, I would try either Assistant, Macro5 or Extrabar which all allow you to start programs from their own screens.

ctrl+10070 =>calc

An OPL macro to access TIME would be:

You don't say which Psion model you have. there is a way to access most of the built-in apps using the keyboard, Ctrl+(a series of numbers). I have a Sheet file I made up which I'll send you. It shows which numbers to use for each app by Psion model.

Are you sure the Macro5.ini file on your C drive (C:\System\Apps\Macro5) is from your backup? That should contain your previous Macro5 settings. If you just copied back your D drive backup, that could be the problem. Did you do a 'restore' to the C drive?

Hi Folks,

I agree *totally* with Owen.

I'm sorry if the Digest crew have to deal with bounces but I will not moderate *my* language for any spam-checker, a program on a machine and a poor one at that.

The best censorship is self-censorship.

I guess it'd be kind of neat to see it in print :-) .  Although I expect you'll probably complain about the slightly odd menu layout, which I've already improve in a recent bleeding edge (alpha) release.  And, of course, there's the glaring lack of a toolbar, which I intend to correct at some point...  (I'll stop here, or I'll be writing your review for you! ;-)

I just noticed CopyAnywhere is only working one way -- from the Psion to the PC. I know it used to work the other way. I wonder if this happened in the switch to WinXP or the installation of the SP2 to XP. I cannot remember the last time I could do this, but I don't think it was long ago. Anyone have any ideas?

Gianluca,
That new phone looks really cool.  Some of those new phones are great but they are expensive so far.  Not sure about this new one.  But, I guess if you figure it is all you need, it might not be that bad.

Hi Steve,
Even though I will stop my subscription to Palmtop, I do read PDA Essentials here in the States.  It's a great Magazine.  Even though it has a bit of Psion stuff, I enjoy the format and content better then Palmtop. I am not sure what Will's Psion Magazine is or what someone else mentioned EPOC or Psion Journal is.  I have most of the web sites and lots of other stuff, but not sure about these two.

Thanks,
Bob

So you're saying every Psion user, no matter what their economic situation and how much they have invested in the EPOC platform will migrate to the new Nokias? Interesting idea!

> They do everything the Psion could do and more besides.

I very much doubt it. They may do everything the Psion could do with only the built in software, but there simply hasn't been time for the software developers to bring out equivalents of everything that's available for a mature platform like EPOC.

Here are just a few of the things that I use on my Psion and woudl not like to do without.

Merlin
I'd settle for another Macro launcher similar to
Macro5.

OPL
Mostly for writing macros, but I've also written
some small programs and modified some by other
authors.

nConvert
No comment needed.

TrueTerm
I have the English - Spanish dictionary installed
and use it daily.

ConvertPro
The old one from Purple Software. This is by far
the most versatile unit conversion program I've
seen on ANY platform.

Solun
Useful and fun.

PsiNMEA
The ability to calibrate and use my own charts is
invaluable.

SunStar
Celestial navigation program. I've tried a couple of
others, but this is the only one that "thinks" like a
navigator at sea on a small boat. The author sent
me the source code and I've rewritten it to work on
the Revo screen.

SaveMail
Allows me to archive and store all my e-mails from
year DOT with no danger of loosing them if the
e-mail application crashes.

REM
Was originallly developed to supplement the rather
useless reply function of EPOC e-mail, but has
now matured to the extent that it makes EPOC
e-mail far more versatile than any other e-mail
application I've seen.

K2.
The compression is far more efficient than
TomeRaider. Unfortunately, there is so far a limited
selection of files available in K2 format. (I assume
TomeRaider will be available, but that I would have
to pay for it AGAIN.

I've left out lots of software from this list because I expect that the function may be built in to the Nokias or that there is already a Symbian equivalent available. However, I assume that even when the Nokias become available in volume, they will not be cheap and the cost of buying a Nokia and replacing all my EPOC software with Symbian equivalents may run into well over a thousand Euros. Added to this, my plans for the next few years mean spending a lot of time in countries where the phone part of the Nokia probably won't work. I think I'll stick with my trusty 5mx for several years yet (recently upgraded with more RAM and the improved screen cable.)

Itamar, may be a better way to move your contacts from the T610 to the P910 would have been to synch T610 contacts with Outlook and then Outlook with the P910?

Sorry Bob, don't know what you mean by 'WAP browser in TZones'. Do you use the the T610 wap app and enter the address 'www.reqwireless.com/wap' and then from there download? Have you checked your wap settings, can you enter other wap sites?

Hi group,

I want to invite everybody to our "international Psion meeting" ;-) in munich at December 11, 2004.
At the moment we are still quite national, but a least two digest members are about to come. (OK, I confess, we are both living in munich.)
We really appreciate if other digest members would join us.

We are goig to visit the "Deutsches Museum" in munich. This museum if famous for it's technical (or technological?) exhibits. I have organized a special conducted afternoon tour through the "computer-section"  for us before we are going to meet afterwards somewere.

I try to find a not too expensive hotel or maybe we can organize private stayings with some local members.

See you in munich,
Armin

Subject: Transfering of DATA files to CONTACTS

OK. So I decided to transfer all my contact data from my DATA files to my CONTACTS file on the P910. My question is, what is the best way to do this besides typing in each one of them ?

My business data I can synchronise with Outlook, but my personal data are all in DATA files, one for the UK and one for worldwide. The UK one has got 162 entries and the WORLD one 92.

Any ideas and/or advice most welcome.
