In fact, what bothers me most in this process is the fact that there is no map that gives you an overview over the names of the maps. Many cities and places are integrated into one city map. Last year I went to UK and wanted
to take with me all City maps of the destinationn area in southern UK. It
was very difficult if not impossible to indentify all files on the PC that are needed to cover the entire area. Does anybodyknow a way how to solve
this problem?

Tom,

>>I am the owner of what I think is an upgraded Psion 7, however I am not quite sure. Would it be possible for someone to confirm what machine I am
using - 7Book/Netbook/Malaybook etc.

Specs:

No silver tag on front. Series 7 disk above keyboard
Machine Type "unknown"
Software 1.05(254)
Lang English
Processor SA-1100
Speed 191.692MHz
ROM 13M
RAM 19M (though under menu, disk, C reads 13M RAM)

under about netbook: version 1.05(254) English UK - ascii
Build 156 epoc release 5

Is it possible to use this machine with a wifi card and if so, what make of card/verison?<<

If you have a Series 7 badge but the machine says that it is a netbook (the processor speed is also an indication; a S7 had +/- 133MHz, the netbook +/- 191 MHz), then you've definitely got a 7Book. As to using WiFi, the best
card seems to be the Buffalo WLI-PCM-L11GP slimline card; it works in both
a netbook and a 7Book (I know, because I have both), doe sn't block the stylus hole and supports WEP, which is essential if you value your privacy.

Hope this helps, Ian.

Answer to Larch:

I believe what you hear on the Ecosse number is correct - it is the sound
of a computer trying to make contact with another computer, which is what
you are hoping for.
I guess that your lack of success is because the settings do not match.
I am absolutely ignorant of what they should be, but I am sure others here will be able to help.

Hi all,

I'm after the URL for the latest netBook ROM image and I'm blowed if I can find it on the Psion Teklogix site! Anyone got a URL or have it up their
own server somewhere?

Subject: Re: Printing from Netbook to Canon printer

Tony,

HP Printers have the feature of having backwards compatability to older drivers, what this means is that the built in HP printer driver in the
Psion is able to drive the HP and communicate through the IR port fine.  I have used this method in the past too.

However, there are not the built in drivers for the Canon printers and I
also do not know if the Canons have backwards compatability to older
printer drivers.  I have downloaded the Canon printer drivers from Andrew Johnson (http://www.aps.anl.gov/~anj/bjc80/) and I did try to print to a
Canon portable but with no luck - the printer was receivig data but did nothing else.

If you have the drivers from Andrew Johnson already installed (note there
is a postscript driver and a raster graphics driver which state they solve
an IR printing bug) then try playing with the IR settings and communication speed, also you migh want to try running the printing through postscript, though this generates large files and printing may take some time, all printers speak this language and should be able to process the input, providing the IR is talking the printer's IR protocol.

David

On the TomTom CD, their Support said long ago, there is a document called "short.txt"
in which you should be able to find that info.

There's also a free overlay with regional info, telling you the name of the maps you need. Might be it's called (land)SE and (land)SW - countries are divided into two areas.

Hope this helps.

Subject: Handy Day 2004/2005, Data to Contacts, Reflections on moving to Palm,

Answer to: Rolf Brunsting

Re.: Handy Day 2004/2005 - This discussion has gone way of the basics IMHO. On 13th October 2004 I bought Handy Day 2004, a diary/agenda program for my P910. The website said that within the first month any upgrade is free, thereafter at a special discount. Within the first month the next version
of the program appears, still basically a diary/agenda program but
rewritten in a new source code and with additional features like weather forecasts and more. Even though the source code is now different, the
program is still basically a diary/agenda replacement for the Calendar program on the P910 and therefore IN MY EYES an upgrade / new version and
NOT a brandnew program. As a customer, I really could not care less whether they rewrote the whole source code or just added bits and pieces to it, I
only see the end result on my screen and not what is behind it. If I bought
a diary program and they now bring out a database program, that is a _new_ program.
If I had been the marketing manager, I would have told a customer like me that although our opinion is different, I understand the unclear language
of the website and give the customer a free upgrade (new program). I, as a customer, would have praised Epocware and brought them new customers. In
the end, they did offer me the new version at a reduced price of USD 15.-
so it would have been 15 dollars very well spent.

Re. Data to Contacts - Ok, so I did the ultimate test. Fired up my S7 and opened a new contact, all the fields are there, home address, home region, home p'code, home country. Renamed the Contacts.cdb on my mBook and started
a new file, and only the field Home Address is present, all the others do
not exist.   So, when transfering an old XXX.cdb file from a S7 to the
mBook these extra fields will show on the screen, but as the program does
not "know" about them these will not be exported. Psion for one reason or another reduced the power of the Contacts program on the mBook, which
totally explains the problem I had with exporting the Contacts to my P910.
So if I need to do it again, from the mBook back to the S7 and export the contacts on the S7 to a .vcf file <G>.

Answer to: Steve Hodgson

Re.: Reflections on moving to Palm - Have been there, done that, and moved
on <G>. DateBk5 is a good program, I bought it as well. In the end what
made me move on is the ease of having one machine with me instead of a
mobile phone and a PDA. I don't think you can feel much of the Symbian OS
in the background, it is hidden quite well. But, I am only happy as I still have my mBook for most serious emailing and work. I just made a small
business trip again and the mBook allows me to read all emails and faxes
and to send answers, sometimes several screens long, without a problem. I
am not sure I will ever be able to do that on a small screen the size of
the P910 or a Palm.

Steve, you MUST get a separate folding keyboard for your Palm.
It is absolutely astonishing the difference this one accessory makes to a pda.I use the 'Think Outside' Stowaway Bluetooth Keyboard on my SE p800 it's absolutely brilliant.

Rolf, absolutely, if my p800 ever died I would definately ask any software suppliers for a new registration code in the first instance. I do
understand why they do it, as it stops piracy.

Lastly, is it just me or is the Digest formatted strangely today?
It's kinda messily centre justified and very hard to read, perhaps I've clicked on something I shouldn't  ;)

Subject: Re: No self-recharging 5mx

Ulrich, would it matter that the 5mx is in the docking station and current
is coming through the Honda connector? Or is what you are saying simply
that it discharges more slowly with the AC power connected and the 5mx is
off than with the AC power disconnected and the 5mx off.

I will buy that it discharges more slowly because that's all I've noticed.
I have never measured to see if the batteries have a greater charge. I do know they last far longer if I leave the unit in the docking station when
not in use, than if it just sits in the case.

This sounds obvious, but have you tried adding the mising fields in the Ctrl-L dialog?  i.e. Add item > Home city, etc

Hmmm, this could indicate that my suggestion won't work, assuming Contacts stores it's the "Add item" info in it's database file, rather than it's INI file.

Itamar might find the last part of interest, since it mentions the issue of upgrading from 2004.
