Hello to everybody.

Nice to see the group moving forward to embrace the Symbian way

I have been using a Nokia 9210 and currently the 9210i for about 2 years
since my MC218 died.

I am now pacing up and down the room waiting for my 9500 to arrive from
Expansys.  Will write a review report on my findings to you all soon.

I have the following Epoc Symbian item for sale, if anyone is interested
please mail me.

Nokia 9210
Nokia 9210i
Psion 3a  with soap on a rope
Series 7 witn memory upgrade, Psion Gold card
Sony Ericsson P800
Sony Ericsson P900

All items complete, with books, cables, software,

Ashley

>>Where can the netbook personality module for an S7 be obtained ?. I have
already upgraded the memory of the S7 but this is something different?<<

eBay (about ?30) or Expansys (about ?110). The S7 memory expansion is just
that, while the personality module contains the processor and RAM, part of
which is write-protected after installing the OS. The S7 memory upgrade
will not work after installing the netbook personality module (I know,
because I've just done this upgrade myself!!).

>>I would like to use wifi on the S7 as a reserve machine.<<

Does not work on a S7, but does (should) work on a 7Book.

>>Screen calibration of the netbook has become a major problem. Almost
everyday I have to recalibrate and now, when I do it, it says that I am
not
in the centre of point1 etc when I know that I am. The only way that I can
progress the calibration is by "missing" the target but the machine
"thinks" have have hit a bullseye! This seems not likely to achieve
anything.<<

Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 attempts at calibrating before I am able to
"home in" on the correct points. At this point the screen is calibrated,
but for how long...?

>>I try the suggested measure such as pressing down on the netbook label
but to no avail. My S7, mercifully seems OK in this respect. Are there
any other suggestions for curing this?<<

Not that I 'm aware of, apart from dismantling your netbook and having a
go at the connector...

Cheers, Ian.

Answer to: Kevin Thorne

Re.: nConvert problem - I am not sure really but did you try to delete the
.ini file and restart the program ?

Answer to: Stephen Stone

Re.: Palm File Manager - I had a file manager program on my Palm and it did
the job well. The main difference is the way the PDA's use files. An EPOC
machine can place files for any program anywhere you want it to sit
allowing you to create folders for different subjects like "Home" or
"Office" and put all files relating to these but from different programs in
these folders. The Palm and the Symbian UIQ work differently (cannot speak
for the other Symbian OS's). While in each program you can create different
folders like "Home" and "Office" these are program related and cannot be
used overal to put data from different programs in the same folder. It is a
different system but I feel you get used to either quickly enough.

Subject: Problem backingup an MC218 via PsiWin2.3.3

  Dear friends,

I use an MC218 with a 48MB flash card that I regularly backup via PsiWin
2.3.3 on my Win XP desktop.

It's several weeks by now that at the end of any backup I have the
following message:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was a problem backing up the file  D:\system\Temp\TMP88ECD.$$$
because there is a problem with the PC to Psion connection

Do you wish to try again ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course any further try doesn't help but only repeats the same problem
:-(

Any good ideas for the solution ?
:-)

Subject: New SIBO emulator?

I found this reference to a new SIBO emulator from Psion Teklogix (see
below).  Is anyone on the Digest list a registered TechNet developer who
would be willing to check it out on the Psion Teklogix web site and report
back on the nature of this emulator, please?  I'd like to have a copy as
another way to ensure access to my data if my 3c fails.  Thank you in advance.

Pleased to say that David kindly sent the file and it's up on my site -
together with an overlay file for Route that shows where the city files
are/go.  Simon Dare also kindly converted the Excel sheet to EPOC Data
format (a seemingly obvious thing to do with the clarity that 20/20
hindsight brings!  D'oh!) and that file is also up.  Thank you both gentlemen.

Hi Joseph,

Sorry if it's an obvious suggestion but have you remembered to set the
export options (Ctrl+O from the export box) such that the label separator
is a Tab and not a comma?

Subject: where did my sounds go ?

Hello everybody.

When I synchro my Ericsson MC 218 (= to the 5mx) with Win Outlook via
PsiWin 2.3, I sometimes loose all sounds in my Psion.
This behaviour is stochastic, since it does not always happen and
disappears misteriously after a few days or weeks, when I get back my
sounds by miracle.
Apparently all obvious settings look OK.

Any clue, anyone ?

Thanks

Subject: the eternal question

Any views or comments on the forthcoming Nokia 7710 as possible
"replacement for the 5mx" ?

To focus discussion:

1 Of course, I mean including a BT keyboard (Nokia has one).
2. Of course, the screen is smaller than a 17" Powerbook from Apple and
the unit is heavier than the 80 gr mini phone of my teen- age
daughter. I am thinking more or less in terms of the 5 mx form factor envelope.
3. Of course, I wonder what the OS (nokia series 90 on a Symbian
kernel) can do or cannot do with respect to "our" Epoc and to Palm OS
5.2, which I tried and did not like.
4. Of course, it looks more an advanced PDA with phone capability than
a phone with extensive PIM. Precisely, how good is at that?
5. From pictures, the interface looks better than Series 80 (the Nokia
communicator series) but less flashy than UIQ 2.1 (SE P910i) or
first pictures from UIQ 3.0 (in less than one year on the market?). Am I right?
6. Of course, surf nokia.com or mysymbian.com if you have not heard of it.
