Guys, I'm not sure if my answer is on subject (tried to follow this thread backwards, but failed). What battery life do you wanted, Itamar? If you're talking about normal laptops - there are laptops that work over 5 hours on normal battery, and are quite slim and light. You guys should take a look at laptops with Intel's Centrino technology. You can find them everywhere (HP, Toshiba...). With a little bit of tweaking (and working with darker screen) - you can have 6 hours. Those are normal laptops with high performance (higher than Pentium 4m). Centrino with an additional battery (usually in place of optical drive) - that would be over 10h of work :).
Asus even has a Centrino model that works something around 10h on one battery, but this is on low-voltage Pentium M processor, so it's performance is not comparable to desktop's. Unfortunately, those notebooks still have 14 or 15", and they don't fit even into the big pocket like 5mx, that's why I'm carrying both :).

Asus writes something about 7-8 hours of use on their site - I can confirm 5 hours (maybe they were measuring this with bigger battery - I used normal one). Usually the Centrino laptops are around 2-2.5kg, but there are models with 12" LCD that are below 1.5kg :)

If you need more info about this technology - just find Centrino in Google :).

Tom, I did a similar thing once, when migrating my agenda from my MC218 to
a SE P800, using Lotus Notes as intermediate.

I found out that at the top of the vcard file the following must be added: ´METHOD: PUBLISH´

Subject: synch problem - sounds disappearing from Psion

I had posted this some time ago, but I may have not seen the answer. If there was one, could anybody please direct me to the correct issue of the Digest?

Problem: When synching my MC 218 (= to 5MX) with PsiWin 2.3 to
Outlook under MS XP, I loose sound in my Psion in all applications. No alarms in Calendar, no sounds in Record, no sounds in Solun (the astronomy freeware programme).
Apparently, all settings look normal.
If I do not synch for a few days/weeks, eventually sounds come back, as by magic.
Any clue, please?

I'm pretty sure that no WINS version was ever released - certainly it isn't included in the official(?) RMR WINS OPX zip file.  If you *do* ever find a WINS version, then please could you send me a copy?

Subject: Exporting as VCARD

Dear all,

I am attempting to transfer my netbook contacts database to outlook using the export function on the psion. I am successful as far as exporting the database as a vcf file, copying this to the pc and opening the import function in outlook. However, when i come to import the file, only the first entry appears in the database in outlook, none of the others. The rest of the vcard entries are in the exported file - I have checked this by opening the exported file in notepad. The format of the data seems fine.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Tom

Answer to: Chris S Handley

Re.: SPAM - Sure they got it from somewhere, but once you are on their list(s) I suppose your email address goes from one to the next and you never get off it again. Each day Spam Inspector puts the domains of all the spam messages on the black list, and each new day brings in messages again from different domains that Spam inspector does not catches. They must be purchasing and registering new domains forever and ever. And the sellers of domains must know this and still sell to them !
Re. battery life - Well, I see people in airplanes with slim line laptops working all through flights of 4 to 5 hours. Maybe they have a spare battery with them, but 3 or 4 ?  Unlikely.

Answer to: Tom Robertson

Re.: Exporting as VCARD - If you just want to synchronise with Outlook, why don't you try and use Psiwin synchronise for this ?

Answer to: Melvin Woody

Re.: Connecting to XP with PsiWin 2.3.3 - I am not sure whether there is a sgnificant difference with laptops but I connect my mBook at home with Windows XP and in the office with Windows XP Pro without any problems. Sometimes it helps to totally uninstall Psiwin and than re-install it again from scratch.

Hi Folks,

Chris, you wrote "I think you'll be waiting a long time, because most people get so much spam that they won't have a chance of noticing if it has increased a bit due to the Digest - and those that DON'T get much spam will most likely  be using some spam deletion system anyway (which could easily mask the Digest's effects)."

I have no spam deletion system whatever. But my spam problem is nearly non-existent at this eAddress or any other I've used to receive the Digest (I had to change because of problems - my old URL was hijacked by a Seattle company). With my original ISP I had a particular problem with the SWEN virus which may have masked any spam there, of course.

Thanks again for your help with my macro.

Happy days,
Phil.

Sorry Itamar, as English is not my native language I misinterpreted your first reply not as a mere question but as a sort of remark, thus the tone of my first posting...

As for the Panasonic modem string, still no answer (maybe Rolf and its database of strings are on holiday...), surfed the net but didn't find anything useful (maybe also Vodafone locked the modem capabilities of the phone...).

Ciao for now and thanks for the good job!

Hi Itamar and Chris,

I've had the same email address since about 1995 and have felt no need to change it. I get no spam at all into my account. Do I have an effective anti-spam system in place?

Nope - I have no anti-spam software whatsoever installed on either of my two laptops, netBook or 5MX.

I do, however, have an account with Virgin.net who introduced their own anti-spamming software and virus checking on their mail server. I have no idea how it works at their end (and no real interest either) but it effectively lets me get on with my email life without any troublesome messages.

If Virgin can do it successfully then why can't all other ISP's?

Now if we could get the Post Office and my local Council to introduce some sort of control for all those unwanted mail shots, flyers and take-away adverts my life would be complete................hhmmm dream
on.

Regards,
Malcolm (Not happy to be back at work in Darlington)
