Much like most programs that use the registry. I've found that the top CAD program for a couple of decades - AutoCAD - leaves much more than 100. I'm still deleting them in spare moments. Another 'feature' of windows having to repeatedly perform the same task over and over again, without a 'batch' facility.
But M$ tells us that windows is so 'easy to use'!

Subject: Re: new Email Reply (indenting) macro
I've been using Chris Handley's Email_Indent.opo (now version 17-01-2004) for a long time, as it's easy and quick to use.
I looked at one of the reply apps and found it too complex and it took more time to use.
I would like to be able to just highlite (<Shift> + cursor down) part of the text at times, as I like to insert my reply comments between quoted text, which I edit by replacing some words by .... to make for better reading.
But much more important would be the ability to limit the line length of _my_ new text, just as I can control the line length of quoted text with Email_Indent.opo.
When I see my postings, the quoted text is still aligned, but my new text overflows onto a next partial line - very untidy and not so easy to read.
This is a problem with most e-mail posting programs, so is acceptable by all. But as a Psion user, I would like to be better than the rest.
Could this feature be added by one of the existing programmers?

Dear Chris,
I agree with all the points you have made. You made a good evaluation of all 3 progs that may help undecided users to pick out the best for their use.
Long live our "dead" platform!

I have had it happen to me on my Netbook and Series 7, but in each case I just had to put a spacer on the back up battery so it was held in tighter in its place against the little battery compartment lid. Then they registered just fine. Not sure if that's your problem, but worth a go.
Thanks,

Perhaps you are asking in the wrong place? After all, this WAS the *EPOC* Digest until recently, so it is not unreasonable that the few OPL programmers on it are mainly experienced with EPOC, not Symbian.
I'd guess that the people best placed to convert programs from EPOC to Symbian would be those now writing freeware and shareware programs for the Nokia Communicators (particularly the old 92xx models). If there is no place like the Digest where they might likely be, then perhaps you should try personally emailing those authors who once made Psion programs, and have now released some Communicator ones?
> At this moment I am only looking for someone to have a look
> at the source files and give an opinion.
While I have investigated the main problems in conversion (hence one of my Digest posts a while ago about conversion), I don't have any practical experience in actually doing so, and therefore wouldn't feel up to doing the job on a non-trivial app written by someone else.
At some (distant?) point in the future that might change, but currently my Psions are working very well, as is my mobile phone, and the tempting new Nokia Communicators are a tad expensive :-(

Pat,
>>I have a S5 and a 48Mb and 256Mb CF card. The 256 one has never worked in the S5 - it reports that no card is present. I bought the larger for my Olympus C5050Z camera, where it has been formatted. The samller I have had for a long time and used in the Psion. Unfortunately, I did the same with the 48Mb one and now the S5 doesn't recognised it. If I remember correctly from previous posts this is probably due to the camera formatting the cards is a different way to the Psion. I have a card reader for my PC which runs XP SP2. The format porgram that comes with XP does not improve the situation any and has no opions to change the way it does the formatting.<<
Under XP, it is possible to specify whether you format using FAT32 or FAT16. When you select Format from the right-click popup menu in Windows Explorer, somewhere on the screen that appears is the actual format to
use; if you choose FAT16, the card should then be readable in your Psion.
J R,

I am using Version 1.05 (450) Release 158 OSs. Any suggestions as to possible cause/remedies would be much appreciated.<<
I know that it has been suggested in the past to put a piece of cardboard between the lid and the battery on a S5, to put pressure on the battery and force it to make better contact. Maybe this will help with you netbooks...
Cheers, Ian.

Subject: Netbook and psion gold card
I've just bought a Psion 7 with a Psion gold Card 56k + fax (WAN Global PC Card) (not a DACOM Card), and can connect to the web with it quite satisfactorily.
I then got a Netbook rom via eBay to upgrade the 7 to a Netbook. This upgrade works very well, but I cannot connect to my email service any more.
I have transferred the email settings used by the Psion 7 over to the Netbook, but on trying to open my mailbox, get error messages "could not find specified email server".
I assume that the ISP settings are correct, but cannot find the Psion Gold card in the modem list in the control panel. I've used the Psion Dacom settings, but without success. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

Subject: Re: Nokia 9500 battery/Keyboard
Hi all,
Someone asked about battery life of the Nokia 9500. I bought the 9500 solely as a replacement for my Revo/5mx. I do not use the mobile very much. My office supplies me with one.
Battery usage with mobile phone turned off- recharge every 5 days. This includes use of wifi to download and send email, surf and save a few BBC news webpages. Daily use of wifi not more than 20 minutes. Heavy use of pda (agenda, contacts, rmrtasks), sheet, database program (smallbase), mobipocket for ebooks/dictionary, daily alarm clock. My screen brightness is turned down to lowest setting, which is excellent indoors and still fine in sunlight.
Battery use with mobile phone switched on- recharge every 2 to 3 days (I only tested for one week). In addition to above usage of pda etc, I used a bluetooth headset while driving, approx 2 hours of use per day. Lots of text messages, some retrieval of email and web news with gprs for testing. About 10 to 20 calls per day, approx 3 mins each.
Keyboard- I fnd this comparable to the Revo for thumb typing. Also has a sticky shift key. 5mx for touch typing is far superior. My 5mx broke down over a year ago so was looking for a replacement for quite some time now since my Revo's battery has been unstable.
After about 3 weeks of heavy use, I find the Nokia 9500 serves my needs in a palmtop computer. Over the past 2 years I have tried several in the palm and pocket pc lines but after only a few days resold them again (unfortunately all at a loss).
Hope this helps anyone who is considering the 9500.

Subject: Frontview
I have been in contact with the authors of this program. They confirmed to me that some of the problems I informed them with are known problems they are working on and that another one was new for them for which I gave them full details. As to the battery consumption, they are aware that in general the program does take too much battery power and are working on reducing this. However, the excessive consumption I informed them with they say happens to very few people only and they suggested I reformat my phone. No need to say that I did not take their advice as I can well live without Frontview until it has been considerably improved. I have now been put on their list of beta testers so I will keep the digest informed of any developments.

Subject: Psilock Hebrew
I have tested this program and it does work quite well. It gives the possibility to enter Hebrew text in the diary, contacts and send SMS messages in Hebrew too. You can also read answers in Hebrew. In principle anywhere where there is text input you can enter Hebrew. When you pop up the keyboard on screen (I finally found out how to do this, having used mainly the pen or keyboard on the flap) I now get a Hebrew keyboard which I can change to English in the settings of the keyboard.
There are some problems still to be solved. The main one is that the text appears correctly in the edit screen, but once saved will show from left to right instead of right to left and not really readeable (in a few diary entries I entered the text left to right in order to see it properly in the day view <G>.
I have been in contact with their support department and they told me they will work on the problems.

Answer to: Schopf, Wulf
Re.: PbRead (HebRead) - Thanks, but I suppose it will not convert the Hebrew caracters in files and part of this program, Hebread, is meant to read files with Hebrew texts. Someone is now looking at the program to see what would be involved.
Answer to: Phil Aypee
Re.: slutfoot - Sofar all reactions - in the digest and private - have been the same opinion, so thanks to all for the understanding. The mistake with open BCC field actually happened twice in the last year or so. Once it was due to human error of one of the operators, the other time it was unresolved why it happened. The digest however is _never_ sent via the smtp of Freeserve. Each operator uses his own smtp server of his own provider to send out the digest. So I use for example eclipse at home. All the providers used were tested before using them whether or not they will show the BCC field or not. Some providers will allow only a limited number of addresses in this field, and the digest program can handle this and will in such case divide the subscribers base in the relevant number of outgoing emails to send the digest to all subscribers.

Re.: recognizing back-up battery - Did you try the "old fashioned" solution by putting a small peace of cardboard on top of the battery to give som extra pressure to make contact ? Maby cleaning the contacts would help ?

The PC doesn't see the card at all when it is inserted in the PCMCIA adapter, not even as an unpartitioned disk. It sees the adapter, but not the CF. The PCMCIA adapter works with other CF cards.

Subject: WiFi prices
Hello everybody,
The mBook is perfectly capable to make use of public WiFi-networks, but... those networks nearly always have outrageous prices. I am now staying in a hotel in France and here the deal is 10 euros per 2 hours (those 2 hours should be consumed within 24 hours), whereas the hotel charges 0,30 euros per 5,5 minutes of telephone Internet (which is enough to read your mail).
In the U.S. some hotels would not even charge for local (Internet) calls !
Are these outrageous prices common ?
Does anybody use these commercial networks ?
I would usually have a walk to scan for open networks, but the neighbourhood is not looking very friendly. The locals may have an unhealthy interest for netBooks. :-)
BTW, Freesurf.fr has just worsened its conditions for free e-mail: what they classify as spaam will be deleted from their servers within one week - they store it in a "spaam" folder and until now they stored it until you deleted it or downloaded it.
Small problem: you can only check that folder through their webmail interface. :-(
A bit awkward with a Psion.
They are clearly trying to disencourage the subscribers that do not pay enough...
Yours truly,

Anyone knows of a better deal ? Perhaps there is a way to build it by oneself with spare NiCad or IonLith batteries...?
Thanks for yr advice
