Hi J R,

From your email address I assume that you are located in Germany. Its
probably best to ask SRS in Karben for a remedy. #

I'd try to clean the contacts in the battery compartment either
mechanically or with contact cleaner. Did you try to slightly bend the
contact springs?

Hi Bob,

Nokia software has grabbed the *.SIS extension. From the file name, you
cannot decide if a file is for a Symbian Phone or for a Psion. But you can change the association back to the Psion installer in two
ways [the menu options might be labled slightly different, my Windows
version is German and I've
made a "best effort" translation]:

1) The "Folder Options..." menu selection in Windows Explorer has a tab
"File Types" from which you
can change the program that is started when you click on a SIS file. Change
it to use "EPOC Install".

2) Right clicking on a file with SIS extension offers an "Open with ..."
menu option (you might need to hold down Shift while clicking to see this option). You can then select "EPOC Install" and tick the box labled "Use
this program for all files of this type".

After you have made the changes, it might become hard to install anything
on a Nokia phone ;-)

Ian & Allen,

if you need a CF card to exchange data between your Psion and the PC, the
best I could do so far was to *only right files to the root directory* of
the card. Until now I was lucky with this approach. I must admit that I
mostly use my wireless network to transmit files to my netBook but the card trick was
common before my WLAN worked out.

Hi Keith,
Good therapeutic choice ;-)

and great work!!
Every "psion-only"(without cdRom reader) biker would be most grateful to
have access to your .sis
and Martin site could (again) be The choice.

Not completely:  Quite some time ago he stopped adding new functions to Mentor, in favour of rewriting it to be OS-independant, but initially
targeting the Palm OS.  Although he did hope to follow-up with an EPOC version.  Relatively recently (perhaps 6 months ago) he officially stopped
even fixing Mentor (not that that there are any real bugs left), so that he could fully concentrate on his OS-independant rewrite.

I haven't kept up-to-date, but looking at the number of posts on the
WuLiSoft mailing list (which is basically for Mentor) would suggest that he still hasn't finished writing the OS-independant version.  You can join the mailing list if you want:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wuli/

The mailing list is also be a good way to attempt to contact Ben, or at
least find out what has happened to him!  He occasionally posts updates,
which will be archived.

I would suggest Mentor should not be made free, without serious attempts to contact him first, particularly since (AFAIK) still hopes to make some
version of Mentor available again, maybe even for EPOC.

If necessary, I can see what old email address(es) I have for him.

However, should he really not be contactable, then I already have a program which will generate valid keys for Mentor.  Reason?  I didn't like the
short trial period of Mentor, and didn't want to loose all the data I
intended to enter.  As it happens, I did register Mentor, and also told Ben how easy it was to crack his app, which he did eventually fix.

Subject: P910i email

Having been "forced" to invest in a P910i, after my otherwise perfectly working R310s and my SIM card decided to stop co-operating, I have come
across a weird problem with emailing, which I hope that someone can answer.
If I try to send an email to ie. my work address (ichapple <at> epo.org),
it fails with an error, saying that there is a problem with the addresses
in the To, CC or BCC fields. However, if I send an email to my home email address, which has a dot in the part of the address before the @, it works fine. If I try an alternative alias, without the dot, it fails. Does anyone have any idea what this is due to, and is there a way to solve it?

Cheers, Ian.

Hi there,
Your first step should have been to try a folded piece of thin card inside
the back-up battery compartment (although I used a piece of matchstick in
my S7 to solve the problem).
Hope that helps.
All the best,
   Kate!!
