You don't mention which SIBO machine you're using...
The S3classic had a speed limit of 9600, the S3a were 19200 and the S3c
57600
RFM, was that part of the RCOM package?

I'd suggest using the SIBO Emulator.
(I think I still have it somewhere)

Subject: Handy Databank on P910
I've just created a couple of databases with Handy Databank, but something weird has happened. After backing up my phone, the two database files are no longer recognised by Handy Databank; the files are still present, but the program will not open them. Does anybody have any idea what's going on? Is this something that I can expect to have happen every time I do a backup and/or switch off the phone?
Cheers, Ian.

Yes, I have - however it's a little tricky. The biggest problem is the
Gmail requires POP over SSL and Email doesn't support that. If you have access to a Linux box you can use "stunnel" to talk normal, unencrypted
POP to that, which then encrypts it and sends it on to Google.
Something similar could be done with the SMTP (which also requires
SmtpAuth, I believe). I haven't, however, done this with SMTP as I tend
to use the SMTP server available via my network connection.
Alternatively, there's also a Gmail-lite frontend being written (I
installed this for a while, but the POP solution is much better); more details on this can be found here:
http://gmail-lite.sourceforge.net/
If you have no permanently connected box, or can't get stunnel working,
you can use mine - however, you should be aware that:
* Your connection will be unencrypted to my box, and your username and
password could be intercepted (as with any normal POP3 connection)
* I could easily monitor the traffic, which includes your username,
password and email traffic.
If you still want to give it a go:

Phil,
I have a gmail account, and it works just fine on my Palm Tungsten T using Snappermail, which is a POP3 mail client.
But I can't seem to get gmail working with Psion's Email app or even XJMail (which offers APOP, CRAM MD5, POP before SMTP and SmthAuth), and was just wondering whether someone is using gmail successfully on a Psion, and if yes, what the proper settings are.

Subject: Jotter/Sketch app with a good system of alarms?
I'm looking for a good app to keep a simple overview of tasks that require repeating alarms and timers, something along the lines of 'DiddleBug or BugMe' for the Palm platform. This should basically be a combination Jotter/Sketch app with a variety of alarms. I like "QuickNote", but it doesn't have any alarms or timers.
Can someone recommend a combination Jotter/Sketch app with a good system of alarms?

Subject: EDU
Hi Folks,
Philip (Carlisle), the C drive doesn't really need defragmenting under EDU as it's volatile RAM. A memory defragmenter (I think there's a macro as well as a program for it) is all that's necessary. EPOC Task Manager and PsiLoc+ both defragment memory themselves and I imagine other system utilities will too.
But if you really want to defragment it you'll probably have to uninstall Font Machine - I think there's a Control Panel involved. Doing a hard reset will *not* do the job if there's a Control Panel involved as that is not a program but integrates itself with the operating system. A hard reset will effectively defragment the C drive memory though.
As to the other question - yes, a restore onto a clean drive should not be fragmented as the files are written sequentially. It is usually only when a file is opened, modified and then saved that fragmentation happens.
I hope that helps.
Happy days,
Phil.

Subject: RE: The Digest V2 # 690 (2)
After two or three months of waiting; today I received an email notice from Expansys USA stating that the Nokia 9300s are now in stock and shipping, and would I confirm if I still wanted one? I have been on their pre-order list all this time. Of course I want it! I expect it should arrive by the end of this week or early next week. I will write the digest of my experiences with it. I am not a high-techie and so, may not fully explore all the phone/PDA's potential but it is a sorely needed update for my 5mx and Revo. I started using Psion devices with a 3 series in late 1992/early '93.

Subject: Connection Conundrum
Here is a connection puzzle, and I'm hoping for help in solving it.
Background:
On the road with a Mako and Jornada 720 and appropriate cables, including IR Travel Modem. The Jornada is Infrared IROBEX-capable (also has PeaceMaker installed), can send files back and forth with Diamond Mako, via C-Beam. A full Mako backup is stored on the Jornada. Tragedy: Mako spontaneously resets, e-mail NOT available, so how do I get a SIS file of C-Beam to a Mako (that now has no third-party apps) to enable a full restore?
Solutions:
I could install PocketDOS on the Jornada and run RCOM to the Mako, since RCOM requires only the activation of Link and no third-party app. Viable, but complicated and expensive (PocketDOS is nearly $40).
Or is possible to use the IR Modem for some kind of file transfer between the two machines? Or somehow use the Mako Docking Station (but without oTerm)?
There may be no solution, but I'd appreciate anyone's input.
Thanks,
Jake

Subject: Safeplace.dat file
Hi folks,
I've been silent for a while: nice to talk to you again!
Unfortunately, I am down to one Psion (my S7) at present. My 5mx suffered cable demise, and Revo Plus the battery problem. Obviously, the S7 is too large to carry in my pocket, and I now tote a Dell Axim Pocket PC. Actually, I quite like it, once I got used to stylus input.
Anyway, in my S7, in the Safeplace app., are stored all my passwords, registration codes etc., well over 200 entries, encrypted in the safeplace.dat file. Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer these entries to an ordinary data file, please? (Probably it's not, or it wouldn't be such a "safe place" <g> ). If I could unencrypt and get at the data, I could convert to contacts and transfer to PC via Outlook.
Any ideas, please? Many thanks.
Best regards,
Kevin [Cork, Ireland]

Subject: Disabling the "Switch off after x minutes"
Does anyone know of an app that quickly & easily disables the "Switch off after x minutes" setting in Control panel when Psions are connected to the desktop via the RS232?
Users of netBooks and Series 7s will much more likely appreciate how ueful this would be!
Thanks,
Richard

Subject: Smartmovie - report
I had the opportunity to use this program during my holiday last week to watch 2 movies in the plane, on the train and in the hotel. The quality of the screen is actually amazingly good once you set the brightness to the correct level. With the earplugs in the sound is good as well. The only problem is that when you are in a place with light from different angles (the train) there is a lot of reflection off the screen and you need somehow to shield it against the light sources which I did with my hands, but not so comfortable. The phone changes to a horizontal full screen view. There is a very useful setting to start the film off where you left it last time you switched off so you can stop in the middle and continue watching later without worry where you were in the film.
In the beginning I had a problem that the sound came behind the screen, but solved that eventually with the "audio preroll time" which I had to set to +0.86 sec.
Altogether this is a real bumper of a program that comes in very handy when you have time to spare.
