<Hello - long time no speak (I've been lurking!) I'm seriously considering at some stage a 9500 as a replacement for my 5mx and my Sony Ericsson mobile (the latter is incredibly non-intuitive after previous Nokia phones). One small point - can one turn the phone off and continue to use the PDA functions? I work in a hospital, so at times should not use the phone which might affect nearby electronically operated machinery.>
Yes, you can switch the phone part off completely and just use the PDA portion if you wish.

I want to use it together with my S5mx via infrared, to get the mails from my POP3 boxes.
May be there is someone, making the same thing and beeing able to give me hints, which settings I have to enter in the Psion control panel for both the modem settings and the Internet service and in the mobile phone, too. >>
I've been using my Nokia 6210e for a number of years with 5mx, 7 and nB. It also worked with my new 5mxPRO when I tested it.

Subject: Using a Psion with broadband
I have recently had a few problems with Orange staff (like Q: I can't access my Orange mailbox - A: You need to send an e-mail) so I've ended my monthly account and I'm now PAYG.
So I'm now using the Psion 56k + Fax gold card that I got with this nB and landline.
I've not yet tried this modem with my 7, but it's not suitable with a 5mx.
Can a Psion be connected to a win box via PsiWin and access using broadband? If yes, how?

Correct? >>
Correct Franco, that is how my new 5mxPRO recently bought from Clove works. It's now in everyday use, because one, I want to use it throughout it's 6 months warranty and two, I understand it's screen cable is of a different design. The 5mx it replaced is now in stock with the other 5mx I bought a few years ago as a spare.
The only complaint I have is with Clove. I've placed two orders with them via their website, and it appears that they don't hold any stock of anything as orders take over a month to arrive.
Much better than any of the new smaller keyboard, smaller screened and no touch screen offerings.

Subject: 9500 Various
Hello,
>>From: Kevin Thorne
I find it incredible that Nokia have not provided a way of archiving our messages on the 9500. On my 5mx I used the very handy 3rd party SaveMail but as far as I know, nothing yet exists for the 9500. <<
It will be nice when a 3rd party app similar to Savemail comes out. But I wouldn't call it incredible that Nokia didn't provide this, just as Psion did not either.

Subject: Setting up a 9500 for Wi-Fi on a home network<<
I am no expert on wifi but this is how I set it up on my 9500.
For Web:
I found it best to manually set up the access point before going to Web and Messenger.
go to control panel - connections - wireless LAN, then select - networks - highlight your wifi router - create access point.
The tricky part if the router is WEP enabled is to enter the correct password. On my office one, I just enter my 5 digit password, like 12345. However, on the home Linksys router, i entered my 5 digit password but no websites came up on Web. I then entered the KEY1 10 digit password (generated by the router software) and it worked fine. There was no error message so I only figured it out by trial and error.
Go back to control panel - connections - internet setup - highlight your wifi router and make it 1st priority.
For Messaging:
To set up access point with Messaging (Email) program, go to
control panel - messaging - select email account - scroll down to "internet access" and select the corect wifi access point you just created.
Please contact me again if you have problems.

Re: Email / Messenger program
Someone mentioned that only 3 email headers could be seen in the Messenger program. By pressing Ctrl - T, it will be possible to see 7 headers, not amazing but still an improvement.

Subject: 9500 as 5mx replacement
Hi all,
I have used my 9500 for almost 3 months now. To those wishing to "replace" their 5mx, they will be disappointed. The keyboard is not as good for touch typing (but, imho superior for thumb typing) and Agenda is better, especially with the weekly view. But, having gone through several screen repairs and wondering if the cable will break each time I open the lid, it was time to move on. I also have 3 Revos with battery problems.
To call the 9500 a 5mx replacement really does it an injustice. It has so many more additional functions than the 5mx. If I wanted a 5mx replacement, I would look up Clove and order one from them.
The programs I use most are,
Built-in:
1. Web (via wifi, sometimes gprs)
2. Email (Messaging)
3. Calendar
4. Contacts
5. Sheet
5. Documents
6. Clock (alarm clock)
7. Mobireader (Dictionaries, ebooks)
8. Calculator
9. Zip manager
Shareware (Registered):
1. RMRTasks
2. RMRBank
3. YData
4. Worldmate
5. SmallBase, not used now since I bought YData
I hope this helps anyone looking to buy a 9500.
Best regards,

Subject: Re: Clarinet ethir-lan
Thanks Itamar, but we don't have a PC. we have a wireless base station, apple iBook, netbook and 5mx, and that's it.
A more interesting problem is that the university library has ethernet sockets at each desk. Ealasaid can use the netbook easily via her gold card, (and indeed notices other library users looking jealously up from their enormous windows laptops) but the size and weight and general clutter of the Clarinet thing is more hassle than taking in the iBook, much though I'd be tempted just for the geek factor! Shame it was not compressed into a battery powered device, say, the size of the IR travel modem. Andrew's Compex looks better as a one-box design but it seems to still require a separate mains adapter?

Subject: Psion mx5 - Reinstalling Contact+
I recently did a hard reset on 5mx having first backed up my contact
on to my CF card.
My problem now is I don't know how to reinstall. If I go to add and
remove progs I just get Psion mx5 logo and then the screen with the
progs/data.
Contact+ is there with 5 modules.
Help please

Subject: Personal Finance Management on Nokia 9500/9300
Dear All,
Can anybody advise me if there is a personal finance management program that can run on Nokia 9500 and 9300? Ideally it should be able to synch with desktop software like Quicken or MS Money.
Thanks and regards
