Subject: Phoneman & new cellphones

Hi Psionies,

in the German mailing list "Psion-de" one of the subscribers wrote the following:

-------
As someone of you already noted, Phoneman can not perfectly work with the new cellphones, e.g. with the SIEMENS X65.

Unfortunately the version 2.101f is the last one and the great program will not be neither updated nor supported.

I would like to ask the Psion/Symbian community, whether there is a programmer, interesting in adaption of Phoneman to the newest cellphones.

As the author makes available the source code at
http://www.zenobyte.com/products/Series5/PhoneManPro/download.html, this should be not so hard to do.
-------

I think, many other Psionists would be definitely happy, if Phoneman will work with newer cellphones, too.
Our Digest is read by 760 (as per today) subcribers in all over the world. So there are more chances, that such a volunteer will be found.

Eric,

As I am sure you know, there have been great strides forward in rechargeable battery technology.  It is now hard to imagine a world without these rechargeables.  Of course, AA or AAA makes it convenient but could end up with products that are too large unless the battery adjusts to the footprint of the product - which to me makes more sense than having to stick to AA or AAA rechargeables - on condition that the device manufacturer uses good quality rechargeables and builds a proper charging circuit.

I'd certainly hate to see my mobile phone and my PDA go up in size just to accommodate AAA cells.

Now the Revo is another matter altogether.  That is one product they should've designed for replaceable AA's.  Then I would not have had to stow mine away in my drawer for all eternity because of the lousy battery/charging circuit.

Answer to: Stéphane Sage Subject: Nokia 7710 test
Dear Stéphane, Thanks for the link and the cue.
>For those who might be interested in the Nokia 7710, try
>http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-7710-en.shtml
<http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-7710-en.shtml>
I must say, that's one of the most hideous reviews I've ever read, not so
much for what it says about the 7710, but the review itself."

I could not agree more.

"My only concern with it is the availability of software since it might end
up being a one-off device, with Series 90 possibly merging with Series 60
rather than with Series 80 which everyone had expected and from whence it
(software-wise) actually derive. Nokia has been extremely blur about the
roadmap for 7710 and I can only interpret that as a result of internal rifts
between the ranks on the future of Series 90 and the 77xx line in
particular."

Well, again, Martin is right on the spot.

Good! I do not have to write (almost) everything on this topic.
Well covered!!

PS (this is the "almost"): an on-line petition to Nokia to merge series 90
with series 80 instead/also, like we did for the Symbian-based Netbook pro,
anyone?

Cheers to everybody on the digest,

Subject: P910i connection problems

I have a P910i and occasionally when I dock the phone in the cradle, it will not reconnect (No phone icon appears on the lower right hand side of the screen) which means I can't synchronise, backup or copy files from or to the phone using windows explorer.

This has happened to me a few times and is always cured by a reboot. I researched this a little more and found that I was not alone. In the (excellent) forum my-symbian.com I found the following thread where the problem is discussed.
http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19707&highlight=serestarter
This thread is a link to a program which can be used to fix the problem, although alternatives are discussed in the thread itself:
http://my-symbian.com/forum/download.php?id=2696

This works on my W2K laptop - that's all I can say ...

Answer to: Ian Chapple

Re.: Bluetooth keyboard question - With the little program BtKey from Yellow Computing (www.yellow.de) you can use any bluetooth keyboard using HID profile with your SE 910 so it should not be that much of a problem. I have no personal experience with it yet (nor likely as long as my mBook works).

Answer to: Charles Davies

Re.: Contacts+ - I would like to suggest after you enter the batteries again not to copy anything over as yet and first try to connect to your PC while the 5MX is in it's "virgin" state. Also fisrt put in your personal details and make sure these are exactly the same as before otherwise Psiwin will not recognise the machine. On a separate note, in all the years of using Psions I can hardly remember ever having done a hard reset myself.

Hi all,

I use Message Storer for most of my emailing. I don't find GPRS expensive when used exclusively for emailling, only when surfing the net.

Subject: UIDs for programs

Hiya

I sent an email to <uid_sw [at] software.psion.com> to get a uid for a program and 4 days leter I received a bounce message telling me "Your message was not delivered within 4 days and 0 hours. Host software.psion.com is not responding."

Is there another way of getting a UID I should be using?

Subject: 7710 again...

Hello all!

Thanks, Martin, for yr answer and point of view. I do agree that Mobile Review might have a rather weird analysis of the 7710: it would not be the 1st time .

Herunder 2 other links:

http://my-symbian.com/s90/7710_review.php

http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/handphones/0,39001718,39078743p,00.htm ,

more encouraging...but autonomy seems to be scarce.

Also, I have checked available software on MySymbian.com: there are already 3 differents commercial programs for video reading (DVD, DivX, XVID,...), one PDF+, a screen capture one and real time messaging (Blackberry like) under Series 90.

Finally I read on allaboutsymbian forum that some Series 80 programs could run on the 7710: how can that be (perhaps without implementation of the tactile screen) ? In that case, we can imagine Series5 programs could be "adapted" to run under Series 90...

Best regards.

Stephane (Grenoble, France)
