>>Sent items.  Mostly, the Palm offerings just do the Inbox!

I suspect the 9500 does the same, though I really can't see the point in anyone syncing email over to a palmtop. My Outlook email system is huge, why on earth would I need all that on my mobile device? I've used the 9500 for week-long trips, with multiple POP3 mailboxes, and have coped perfectly well. Then, when back at base, time for Outlook/whatever to do its stuff, etc.

>>means a lot of clutter, and no integration - a poor substitute for my much
missed 5mx experience.

Messaging on the 9500 is quite similar to the 5mx Email app.

>>3. PDF handling.  What can I say here - there isn't any!  There is a Palm
PDF version, but this strips out all graphics and returns text only.  It

There's an official Acrobat reader, and it handles graphics, but it's not as slick as on a Desktop - but then decoding and rendering Acrobat files needs HUGE resources - I think you're asking a lot of a palmtop here!

>>4. Synchronisation with MS Documents.  Having bought Documents To Go from

Handling of native Word and Excel files is a little patchy on the 9500, but the new firmware apparently improves this. Basically, it's Word and Sheet from the Psion on a colour screen, with support for opening and saving native MS Office files.

>>5. Synchronisation with MS Outlook.  Again, there are many contacts-type software suites available for the Palm.  Using Contacts to go (again from Dataviz) I get unparalleled synchronisation with Outlook.  This is of huge

Syncing works perfectly between Outlook and 9500, apart from the omission of syncing Notes/memos.

>>6. Use of Avantgo.  I download content from this website daily - from

Haven't thought about this much, but there's a huge amount you can get directly over GPRS using sites listed from

Hi,

I've send some comments here that when you order a 5MX from Clove they take a long time to deliver.

How long is a "long time"?

I ordered one on 4th March, and have heard nothing since then except the original email order confirmation.

Just wondering how long it's been taking for Clove to deliver to others?

Cheers
Patrick.

Answer to: Mike Dyer

Re.: Treo 600 - Thanks for the answer. While in principle this is an EPOC / Symbian digest I think it is in the interest of the readers to hear from time to time about other devices as well, also because our EPOC Psion's will sooner or later "die" on us and than we all will have to make a new choce between either a Symbian model or other OS's. So do feel welcome to inform us from time to time [this is my personal opinion and if others are aginst this feel free to voice this in the digest].

Answer to: Rolf Brunsting

Re.: UIQ style guide - First of all I hope that the family illnes has been resolved and that your move went smoothly. As to the subject, you write that "You're worse off when applications A, B and C close the window/dialog but applications D, E and F not". Well, that is the case now, as some third party software does not go back to the "base state" and others do. Howver, if it would have been a choice in the OS, all software could have been written accordingly and the user would have had the full choice. Anyhow, it was not the case so we can't do much about it.

like Vega and Covertec. I've seen some of them that were smart enough to be worn with a traditional banker's pin striped three piece suit.>

Covertec make a really neat case that allows you to use the 9500 in situ and it looks great.  However, trying to get hold of one of these is another matter!  I've tried looking at various retailers' websites and they all say "due in soon" (for the last 3 months) and if one goes directly to Covertec's site one cannot order from it at the moment due to them upgrading their site!

<I therefore think it's best to take the bull by the horns and put the Series 5mx in a drawer, lock the drawer and use the 9500 and the 9500 only. I'm sure there are times that you curse the 9500's designers at times.
Still, you're going to use the 9500 as its the one you have with you. And you can only adapt to the 9500 by using it.>

For a few months I had both machines but I decided that I really must get used to the 9500 as my only machine.  Now it is my main machine (5mx now
sold) and I'm glad I took the bull by the horns and did exactly that!  The only bit of software I really miss is Palmtop Money.  I do find I adapt more to the 9500 as I use it and find for my own requirements, the single box solution for PDA and phone works really well.

Subject: Funny cartoon on Rolf's story 'Psion shotdown'

Hello List,
unfortunately I cannot quote the original mail from Rolf Brunstig from the last digest. He wrote about a guy who carries his non-Psion PDA in a belt holster like he himself carries his Psion; when they met, the guy asked him to simulate a western showdown ("Draw!") with their respective PDAs instead of revolvers (as a joke).
I hope that mind-quote was basically correct, details let aside (this mail is not in the digest yet, and I have deleted it already.)

Well, this story reminded me of a very nice cartoon from a Mr Adamms: I read this cartoon long ago and did never think that such a thing could really happen. According to Rolf's report it did - this made me search this Dil-pert cartoon and put it on my page - see

http://psion.uh-lab.de/ps_cartoon.htm

for a good laugh.

PS 1: I am not sure about the copyright issues - if some of the group find that this publication is a risk of any kind, please inform me with PM.

As long as it is on my server, have a look at it - most of you may find it funny as well.

PS 2: I bravely withstood the temptation of introducing the real names of the combattants into the comic :))
I used the neutral "Psion-guy" instead of the original "Techn* Bill".
