Looks like a 5mx serie. I can't see anything new in the specs. Yet at
the same time, POS are selling the 5mx at 245 gbp.

Ian,
After my Psion conked out, I tried both the Palm OS and the Windows Mobile OS. My bet for the moment is a Windows Mobile device, of which I currently have the iPaq.
Load it up with the "smart GSM" software from pocketgear.com and you will be well on your way to SMSing. I send, sometimes, as much as 50 SMS messages in a day, sometimes the same message to about 30 people. The software handles this very well.
Pocket Word and Excel are definitely compatible with the PC versions of the same.
The Contacts and Calendar/Appointments synch well with Outlook.
As to email, you can get software like connect2internet that sets up your configuration almost automatically for all types of connections - GSM,
HSCSD and GPRS. Then the sw searches for the highest possible connection every time you try to connect.

CoBuild needs to be re-installed on the Psion as the anti-copy
protection mechanism will not allow you to transfer the software to any
other Psion.

I would echo Chris on Paul's service - and he seems a nice bloke into the bargain. However, I did have one repair where the allegedly improved cable lasted only a few months before needing to be replaced again. I feel a minimal guarantee period would not be too much to ask.

Re.: Those few annoying niggles (9500) - Does this mean you can have multiple messages open at the same time and jump from one to the other ?

Re.: POS and a 5mx "successor" - I think that message is up there already for quite some time, and it has been discussed in the digest before. I have no idea whether something might still develop or that they just left the web page there by mistake.

Well it's not a phone, they don't call it a PDA either, but The Register quoted a price of $350 (USD) for the new Nokia 770 Internet Tablet PC

Not available yet but later this year. I suppose with a bluetooth keyboard it could become a useful device. But like it's PPC counterparts they aren't promising particularly long battery life.
Time will tell....

Hi Joop,
Well, my guess would be that you've got the 'today' view active on your revo. You can't access the Agenda database usually unless you switch this off. Failing that, why don't you drop an email to the author? Malcolm is still active and usually more than happy to correspond with users.

I saw this too - do I remember a rumour sometime ago that they were going to "modernise" or rebuild the 5mx in some way....but this was only a rumour I must add. Let's hope they tack on a nice colour screen and give it
bluetooth if they are serious ;-)

Subject: PsiXpda
I can't remember if I've seen this topic in The Digest (I've just checked the archives but can't find anything) but I was wondering what people's thoughts were about the PsiXpda.
http://www.psixpda.com/
http://www.posltd.com/
I see that the POS Ltd website has been recently revamped -- and a nice design too -- with a teaser about the PsiXpda "Coming soon". It looks like a rebadged 5mx.
I guess, I'm just delighted that my beloved 5mx is no longer a technological orphan. There's life in the old dog, yet. But can the PsiXpda really challenge the current Mobile Windows / Palm dominated PDA market? (Personally I hope so! ... but, then, I'm a man of faith!)
I also understand that POS Ltd is soon to be taking over all the Psion PDA repairs from Psion. A good move, as I've had nothing but excellent support from POS, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
