Paul, that's the greatest news I've heard in things computer for months, and also an unusually generous marketing policy ;-)! Please go on with the great job! I for one am going to use my MXs as long as possible... The threads on possible replacements were quite convincing...

David,
EpocSync from http://www.freepoc.de is designed to synchronise between 2 epoc machines e.g. revo and netbook.
You can use "wifi" to get your netbook online, if you have access to a wireless network either at home or office (aparrently you can also use some public networks in libraries or cafes but we have never done that). You need a wireless PC card for the netbook - different cards give different levels of usability, we have a Buffalo Airstation WLI-PCM-L11GP which works perfectly, some other cards work but with limited features, others are no use at all.
GPRS is not only slower, it costs money. The advantage is that as a mobile phone based system, it will work all over the place. You'd need a suitable mobile phone with an IR eye to talk to the netbook. GSM is another mobile phone based option, but is much slower again (slower even than dialling up through a telephone line)
If you have access to an ethernet socket but not wireless, some models of the Psion Gold Card allow you to plug the netbook into the ethernet and get online that way.
Hope these ideas help, Simon

A few weeks ago someone mentioned a 5mx disk repair utility but I've been unable to locate the utility.

Thanks, Todd

Subject: Nokia 9500 MAC address / Tomeraider Hyperlinks

Hello all,
I ahve finally taken the plunge and bought a 9500.  I have come across 2 little problems, which someone may be able to help with.

1) In my place of work I have tried to access the WLAN, but I have been told to supply the computer technicians with a MAC address so that they can set up access for my machine.  I can't find any info on this MAC address in the manual.  Does anyone know where I might find it?

2) I have been trying out TomeRaider along with a number of my homemade data files which have lots of internal hyperlinks in them.  But I cannot figure out how to highlight and access these links in TomeRaider on the 9500.  Can anyone tell me how this is done?

Many thanks,
Martin

Subject: How do I remove an old PsiWin?

I try to reinstall PsiWin 2.3.3 and it complains that there is an old PsiWin present. I have removed PsiWin and EPOC Install, and they are no longer in the list, but PsiWin still tells me to remove the old one, of course without giving any guidance.
Does anyone know where I have to look next?
I am running Win 98

David,

>>I have an un-used UK Psion Revo 16mb. I bought it to supplement my netBook, (just before the end of the Revo production line, so it is one of the last
UK manufactured units) but in the end found that for such a system to work effectively there needed to be a synchronisation program that could run between the Revo and netBook. I couldn't find one and didn't therefore
pursue the issue, relying instead on carrying my netBook around with me,
from which I am now communicating.<<

You should try Epocsync from FreEPOC (www.freepoc.org).

>>Finally, does anyone know if I can get my netBook to communicate through WiFi. I am able to link to my ISP through my Psion Gold Card PCMCIA 56k+Fax modem but would like to communicate more speedily using (I believe WiFi). What about GPRS as an alternative, although WiFi is I think, faster?<<

I think you are mixing things up a bit. Ignoring the issue of hotspots (publicly available WiFi access points outside of the home), you can only use WiFi to speed up your Internet connection at home IF you have a WiFi network installed at home; this needs the following:

* a WiFi router

* a means for connecting this to the Internet (ie. a modem)

* a broadband subscription.

Once you have these items, you should be able to connect your netbook to the Internet via WiFi if you buy the right type of WiFi PC Card (I and many others use the Buffalo model). This arrangement works well and is very flexible (I've just written this lying in bed watching the news!!!).

Hope this helps, Ian.

I have two Series 5 Psions (both 8Mb). One I keep at work & the other at home.

Both needed repair this year. I work about 25 minutes drive from POS Ltd, so it seemed logical to use their services.

POS charge GBP 75.00 for a 'Service', which appears to be a flat charge for whatever repair work is necessary, irrespective of how much or little that may be.

The receipt for the first Psion shows that the following parts were
replaced:
Screen Cable
Keyboard
J12
Backlight
Microswitch
Case Top
Case Bottom
Battery Case
Replaced CF Controller; Retinned CF contacts

The receipt for the second Psion shows that the following parts were replaced:
Screen Cable
Backlight
Microswitch
Case Top
Case Bottom
Battery Case

Replacing the case was not really necessary, however, my Psions now look like brand new, work perfectly & the 'feel-good' factor is high. Colleagues at work cannot believe that my Psion is nearly 7 years old, & are impressed by it's design & functionality

In summary, I too recommend POS Ltd.

Cheers,

Russ Bland

I received my 9500 last week and have  been enjoying learning how to use it. My first impressions have been positive. I have not missed the stylus at all which was a surprise.
I have experienced the following problems:-

1) printing - there are a very limited number of drivers. I have a Canon BJC85 and had hoped to continue to use this. Does anyone know if there is a driver? I see there are Canon and Citizen printer drivers for the 9110. Will these work on the 9500?
2) I have been unable to get PC suite to connect to my phone. Curiously I had more success with PsiWin 2.3.3 than I have had with PC suite 6.5. Any suggestions?
Ian

Yes please! I'm really fed up with the appearance of my 5mx screen.

Don't bother for my sake! A choice of one colour is fine for me!
