Subject: Ref: card readers and MMC
Hi,
Yes, I had exactly the same problem (XP not reading any MMC card) with my 9-in-1 card reader from Hama until I found out that... the MMC needs to be stuck into the reader *upside down* !
Amazing...
By the way, I did not need any violence to insert it, so if you cannot get it in, do not continue trying. :-)
This *does* remind me of the guy that succeeded in getting his CF upside down in his 5mx.
Yours sincerely,
Thomas VAN DER ZIJDEN

Thanks,

Since it sounds like you have already gone to the hassle of doing this, perhaps you could make this file available for other people to download?
If not, then could you at least email me a zipped copy of it? Also, I could perhaps see if Martin would host a copy of it on his site.

Hi Chris
The "Already exists" message looks like there is a stray process in your machine or some temporary file that can't be recreated or overwritten. I'd suggest to try a warm boot of your 5mx (through the reset hole near the backup battery.)
Close any applications first (and copy important data to CF, just to feel better.)

Subject: Nokia 9500 after 4 months & answer to John Kimberely
Dear Psioneers & Nokians
I thought I would make a few comments on my further experiences of using,the 9500 for 4 months now.
I have got more and more used to the machine and more & more impressed with its integration of phone and computer and the convenience this creates. I daily use its fax, email, web and sms functions and they are very well implemented. I also regularly use Word, Sheet, Ydata, Calendar, etc
I have bought Messagestorer from Symbianware and find it works well, but still do not have a structure for a Ydata database file to use with Messagestorer. Can anyone help? Symbianware have not been very helpful.
I have also found Ydata to be very useful. Steve Litchfield's Automail is also great allowing you to have your email regularly updated.
I have also been using iDesk for the last week. Arjen and Roman have created an application which may become the Macro5 for the 9500! A few suggestions guys: We need more panels like the 3 on Macro5; what about allowing the capturing of keystrokes to create macros; the hotkey does not work in other applications. But these are minor issues - this is a great program.
I have installed Cbeam on my MC218 to be able to transfer files to and from the 9500. This works very well. For Word files on the Psion I have to first convert them to HTML, using nConvert, to put them in a format that the 9500 can read. An easier way of doing this would be welcome. I continue to use the mc218 when I know I will be taking detailed notes in meetings. I am getting more used to the 9500 keyboard, and have typed this email on it,
but it still frustrates me and there is no dictionary or spell check on the 9500, which the psion has for free. I am still looking for a BT keyboard which will work with the 9500.
Can anyone help me with the settings I should use on the psion to use the 9500 as a modem? Email would be another simple way of sending files between the two.
I note that John Kimberely is going through the same learning curve as me. I also asked the digest twice about importing VCF files. Still have no solution to this one.
Regarding your problem in reading the MMC using the card reader linked to a PC. I had the same problem until I realised that I had used a password on the 9500 for the MMC card and had not removed this on the phone before putting it in the card reader. The password really does work!
Regards from wintery Cape Town
Max

Subject: running using WiFi, Card readers,
Answer to: Bob
Re.: running using WiFi - Don't forget to look at the side of the PC too ! the settings on the Psion are so simple, it could well be that either the wireless connection needs to be set from the PC to allow contact with your netBook, or that your provider does not allow a connection other than the PC. And it can also be the card itself as not all wifi cards will work with the Psion's. If you live in London you are free to visit me at work and try my Cisco card.
On my mBook there are very few setting I can set :
Configuration = DHCP
Device = Cisco Airnet
ARP = 1800 sec
and that is all.

Re.: Card readers - I had the same problem with a card reader I bought some time ago. I returned it to the shop and bought a Belkin high speed 2.0 USD 8-in-1 card reader and it reads any CF card I "throw" at it (I have abt. 8 for my photography). As to your "off topic" comment, I find it sometimes even more annoying to find a one line answer to a message of 20 requoted in full ....

A very good tutorial Itamar. I've been using MakeOver and my own similar app for a few years. It works very well and is probably still the best way of managing waypoints. Keeping text files as the 'master' file means that comments can be kept in the file.
> Furthermore, there are no guarantees these are all the cameras there are on the roads and you could well still be caught by one that is not in this database.
When I used my Garmin 75 with a 3a or 5, the cameras started to appear and I waymarked them as I found them. In those days it was probably worth doing. But now with mobile cameras in vans and on motorbikes, they can hide anywhere, especially the bikes. Why bother now.
Thanks Itamar about MochaPPP. I thought it was probably Tiscali.
Alan.
