Subject: Re: batteries Revo
On Wednesday 10 August 2005 19:25, I received quite a few replies on my
"batteries" question. Thanks.
I will probably first try out Alan Morris' suggestion, leaving the Revo on
mains for a few days. In fact, since I did this already with no effect, I
will even take it off mains power for a few minutes, and then plug it back
in, so it starts turbo loading again.
I am afraid that this will not help, but at least it costs nothing, and if the
batteries are worn out anyway, it won't spoil them either.
In the next stage, I may have to replace the batteries. I saved Karl Wagner's
link. Thanks, it may not be obvious from my e-mail address, but I live in
Germany, so a German supplier is just fine.
Nevertheless, if there happens to be one in DE or NL somewhat nearer, it would
be fine (I live near Kleve, suggestions are welcome).
Thanks again, everyone.

Subject: GMail Anyone
To: Jim Watson-Gove <address truncated>
>> I have GMail up and working on my Windows machine and see how the web brouser on my palm or my psion should be able to access the mail at the site.
What defines POP mail compatibility? I assumed there would be a way to set up the browser on the palm or the psion to access mail off of the site without using the web browser.<<
I regularly access Gmail on my Sony UX, either on mail.google.com or even mail2web but, as Gmail requires SSL, if you wanted to access Gmail without using a web browser, you would need to install the Snappermail email client, which offers SSL support.

Subject: Discuss Psion etc live
Considering the number of emails from this Digest that I receive in my private MB, it appeared to me that a more "live, real time." form of discussion was needed.
I just started a discussion forum for our topic "Psion etc". To join in (or just to read) use your web browser to go to:
http://www.1-2-free-forums.com/mf/symbian-forum-1.html
You don't have to register or sign in but if you do, you can choose to be notified of replies.
This is just a test for the moment. It has no intention whatsoever of replacing this Digest, it is just an addition to the Digest, in order to deal with urgent topics.

Subject: Printing via 9500
Thanks to all who gave input on this subject.
It looks as though I will have to dig out my old portable printers
(instead of just plugging in to some friendly persons printer in a
hotel or some such place whilst on my long oveseas travels.
Still as suggested a bluetooth adapter may suffice would certainly be
smaller than even the smallest printer.

Subject: UIQ 3 and ABP issues
Itamar said:
>Some time ago we heard about a new version of the software for these phones that would not returnlprograms to base when switching, but it went rather .quiet about this. Has anyone got an update on this ?<
This is UIQ 3 which will be part of Symbian V9. This will cure UIQ of its artificially crippled Multitasking. The bad news is that there is no chance of this becoming available on the P910 as we know it; we will have to wait for the "P1000" or perhaps a device from another manufacturer to see UIQ 3. We should hear an announcement from Sony Ericsson in the next month or so and any announced devices should be available before Christmas:
<dream on>
-3G & Edge support
-Megapixel Camera
-Wifi
-Faster Processor
-More screen pixels
-Inbuilt GPS hardware
-More Memory
-Proper Blackberry support
-Inbuilt FM radio
-Better Battery life
-Size reduction (or - at worst - no size increase)
</dream on>
Lets just hope that UIQ 3 is not so different to UIQ 2.1 that there will be no applications available for it. We already know there will be no Personal Java which - disregarding all other changes - means the popular JABP program will not work...

>APB Bank question
Other question -- I printed out my recent transactions on APB bank so I can
use hard copy as my "checkbook" until my repair is done. The current and
reconciled balances are correct, but the running balance on the side is a
negative 60 grand or so.<
I have used ABP (and more recently JABP) for many years but have never used the Print functionality: apologies therefore for not being able to answer your question. I do however have 2 suggestions:
1) I had very many cable failures on my 5s & 5mxs over the years. I survived by installing the emulator and pointing it at my backed up data. Not all 3rd party programs will work but you will have no problems with ABP.
2) Contact the Author of (J)ABP - Malcolm Bryant. I have always found him very helpful.
All the best from Dublin, Ireland

Subject: Printing via 9500, Planning & Task Management, 9500,
Answer to: Simon Jeffree & Charles Davies
Re.: Printing via 9500 - Could one say that the incompatibillity of the current PDA's with printers shows that these PDA / computers are as yet not seen by their manufacturers as full usable computers, but more as a stop/gap on the road device with the work and/or data prepared to be transfered to the PC's (or Mac's) for further editing and printing ?
Answer to: Jean Guillonneau
Re.: Planning & Task Management - A long message with a lot of terms I don't know about. However, I used Agenda for many years as my main planning and task management tool with great success. I think the answer for you is to reschedule undone to-do's the same day to a new day, and to spread them out over a week and not to move them all to one and the same day, as well as to do more of your tasks so you can delete more <BG>.
Answer to: Simon Jeffree
Re.: 9500 - Well, first I read "The *!REALLY!* unforgivable problem is not with the keyboard, but the lack of a vibrator" and than "What do business people do a lot of, where they need to be discrete? Yes, you guessed it" and I would almost think something entirely different ....... <BG>
