Yes, surely! Just visit EPOC pages of Alexandre Zavorine at
http://www.geocities.com/zavorine/epoc/ There you will find all that
you need: font sets for varios codepages, CyrLat - keyboard driver if
you need to not only read but also type and explanations what to take
and how to use.
If you reed Russian, visit also http://www.mypsion.ru/library.php?aid=1207.
I believe this article is very fruitfull for CyrLat beginner. If you
find its language - it can be rather difficult for foreignor - or face
any other problems with this subject, do not hesitate to contact me off-Digest, and I hope that together we will manage them.
Best regards,
Victor

Subject: Re: Windows CE on Netbook
Daniel,
>Sorry if this was asked and answered. Any way to get the Win CE ROM for the Netbook Pro working on a good old fashioned Netbook. Trying to keep a use for this hardware alive a bit longer.
That wouldn't be any good. Not only that the hardware is sufficiently different between the netBook and its successor netBook Pro, Windows CE on the Pro isn't a suitable organizer operating system.
I know, because I own both...
My netBook (together with the more portable 5mx) serves as my main organizer for Agenda, Contacts
and note taking (Jotter & Word). EPOC R5 is almost perfect in that respect. On the road I can access
my email if I like.
My netBook Pro (I like the hardware specifications!) serves as my living room internet browser, not more. I do have the PIM software and TextMaker installed but Windows CE isn't just the right platform for me:
- I don't run Windows on my main computer, so I have difficulties to push data back and forth between my devices; Irda on the Pro is crippled and not available from the PIM application; the PIM software
has no vCard import/export.
- I bought the Socket Communications SD bluetooth card (why isn't that included on the main board?) but that doesn't help very much either. I can connect to my phone with the Microsoft bluetooth stack
but the MS software doesn't provide much more: BT file sharing isn't implemented. No way to use the software that came with the Socket card because the drivers are incomptible with the already loaded
ones from Microsoft. Since the latter are part of the OS image they can't be uninstalled, so I'm stuck.
- Windows CE isn't Windows:
-- You'll have a hard time finding software: most CE software is written for Pocket PC and either doesn't install or doesn't run properly on a keyboard machine.
-- The user interface of CE is more like Windows 95 than like modern Windows: many more features
are lacking than are implemented (you can't create a link on the desktop or the start menu without 3rd party software.)
-- Navigation (especially with the keyboard) is a nuisance: no two programs use the same keyboard shortcuts, even if provided by MS. Some programs even use keys with aren't present on the nB Pro keyboard (like the insert key.)
-- Internet Explorer works quite well (in the limits of IE bugs but without the security problems) but most plugins aren't available.
-- Thanks to the good screen I can watch pictures taken by my digital camara on the nB Pro but it's always more work than neccessary: If I plug in my SD card and point to one of the pictures, the picture isn't scaled down to the screen size; this has to be done for each and every picture manually. (There
is a way to set it up for all or selected pictures but then you have to start the software manually and navigate to the image directory from there; I keep forgetting the neccessary steps.)
My advice: keep your old nB as it is or sell it to someone who needs a replacement for his aging
Psion. And keep away from the Windows CE keyboard machines like the netBook Pro, they aren't
worth the money.

Subject: Psion goodies for sale
Two of my colleagues decided some time ago already to switch from their Psions (5MX and S7) to the smartphones i-Mate. They have now returned the following hardware to me which I will first put up for sale for digest members. You all know more or less the value of these goods (if not look at for example eBay) so any reasonable offer will not be rejected, first come first served basis. The goodies are :
- Series 3a. It is clearly not in full working order. There is a vertical line on the screen, some other small little marks and when you switch it on, the screen goes very dark and than turns lighter to a normal viewing screen and it ticks until you press the Esc button. I suppose this will go for postage only for spare parts.
- Series 3a in full working order, slightly dented function key strip, including SSD with PsiFax on it and a 128k RAM SSD.
- Series 5 in full working order The only faults I can find (no guarantee) is that the sensor for automatic switching on and off is not functioning and the plastic of the CF door is broken . The screen is in good order, the cover started to peel but not terribly.
- Series 5MX in full working order and good working screen. It includes a 16Mb CF card (what is that nowadays ...) with several programs on it like Sysback, MBMview, Macros, Night clock, FIWorld5, etc.. It further comes with a leather case and a serial cable.
And further the following accessories :
- Serial cable for the 3 series (3Link)
- 3Fax travelmodem
- S5 travelmodem to serial connection 2x
- S5 IR travelmodem (needs standard modem cable to conect to the phone line)
- Pararlel printer cable for the 3 series
- V34+Fax Gold Card multi function PC modem card from Psion Dacom with cable.
- Series 5 and Series 7 user guide.
All further questions and contact to my email address itamar<at>dotara.co.uk. Please note that purchase of the above is at your own risk, I can give no guarantees.

Re.: Windows CE on Netbook - AFAIK it is not possible to run the EPOC OS on the netBook Pro which as you write is Windows CE. If you (or others) have no use for your old Psions, why not sell them to another digest member that might be interested and will put it to good use ?
