Thanks Ian, not all of us seem to be up to Rolf's standards, in his mind.  I thought that the Digest, which I have belonged to for a long time, was to ask questions and not be chided for not knowing everything.  If I knew it all I wouldn't need the Digest.  That is why we have this Digest, as far as I am concerned, is to talk to our like minded "friends" and ask questions. We have very little help with any of these products here in the States and the Digest is our best resource.  We can help pool all our knowledge so that we can all learn from each other.  The reason Cingular has CSD, from what they told me, is so that people would have a fax capability.

Thanks,
Bob

Subject: Running PSIWIN 2.3.3 and Software for P910i

This may have been dealt with in an earlier digest and I apologise for any repetition.

I currently run PsiWin 2.3.3 on Windows XP SP2 on both my PC and laptop. It works fine. I use a serial to USB adapter that I got from Clove. It is not a Belkin. No problems there.

I am interested in upgrading my mobile to a Sony Ericsson P910i. That comes with its own synchronisation software. I suspect it is very similar in character to 2.3.3, albeit tailored to suit UIQ. I do not intend to ditch the 5MXPro & MC218 spare that I have, as the keyboard and certain programs make them indispensable. I am aware of the IR keyboard for the P910i, but the combination will not suit my needs in the same way as the 5MX.

I would still wish to synchronise both 5MX and P910i with the PC & Laptop. Can the two sets of software co-exist? I suspect that they will not as we used to have to uninstall previous versions of PsiWin before upgrading.

Is the P910i software backwards compatible with the 5MX (as if life could be so simple!)?

I would appreciate any experiences of success or calamity.

Keep up the good work.

Gordon Thompson

Thanks for the replies but yes we are aware of the brightness and contrast, but would like to cut the brightness to about half of its lowest setting. Thanks, Simon

Further to a recent discussion about this program, I had another thought. If one would buy this product it would mean that you are "stuck" with this phone until they will have a version for other smartphones. At the moment the P900 and P910 are the only SE phones usable with this product. What if I would like to switch to a different phone like a Nokia ?  Would I have to buy the product again ?  Most probably yes. And if the P950 would come out and I would like to upgrade, would Route 66 work on that phone ?  No, it would probably take quite some time until they will have upgraded it and than most likely one would have to pay for an upgrade.

I think it could be wiser to pay more money and buy a TomTom or a Pocket PC product independent of your phone as a route program only that will continue to work independent of what phone you use at any time.

Any comments ?

Subject: Nokia 9500 to LAN via Bluetooth?

Hi,
for internet connection I want to connect my 9500 via bluetooth adapter at the USB port with the laptop, having a LAN connection (Ethernet card).
I read all manuals and tried all described actions, but without success. I could not connect the 9500 with the internet.
Who can give me any instructions, what I have to do or what I did wrong.
I think this matter will be not of common interest. Please reply by private mail, I'll then describe my HW and SW configuration in detail.

Any hints are appreciated.

BR

Rolf

Subject: Luach 5766 file

Just like earlier years I have now finished an Agenda file for the 5MX, S7 and the various types of netBooks with the Jewish date, holidays, weekly Torah portion as well as the omer counting between Pesach and Shavuoth, alsho showing Rosh Hodesh and the fast days.

This file can be used as is for the above mentioned machines or alternatively you can synchronise this file with Outllook and than synchronise your phone or other handheld machine, so it will also work for Symbian phones (I use a P910, looks just great !)

If you want a copy, send me a private mail to itamar<at>post.com

Although I had no time to play around during my short holiday, I did some playing in the last few days. I have come to the conclusion that it is a small and neat product but not very useful. The main two reasons are that

1/ you need very specific lighting for the keyboard to work properly and be visible which makes it unusable for example in a meeting in a bright lit room.

2/ the keys are not exact enough and you cannot avoid making a lot of mistakes, It also adds caracters due to the fingers moving from one key to the next if you are too low to the keyboard.

If you need a keyboard for a smartphone, go for the bluetooth foldable keyboards.
