Re: Running PsiWin 2.3.3 and Software for P910i
The connection software for the Sony Ericsson p910 is definitely not another flavor of PsiWin. You will not be able to use it with your 5mx or MC218. PsiWin will not work with your P910 either.
This does not mean that they will not both run on the same machine.
I have a windows 2000 notebook that has both PsiWin 2.3.3 and the connection software for my p800. There certainly are no problems with both programs existing on my machine.
I only use the backup function of either program, however, so I do not synchronize using either program.
Though I have not personally tried it, I would suspect that there might be conflicts while connecting an EPOC device (using PsiWin) and your p910 simultaneously. Only connecting one at a time, should not be a problem.
Maybe you already have experience with syncing multiple devices, if you do not, there is an inherent danger when syncing multiple devices to one desktop (or one device to multiple desktops). The problems are usually not that big but you may find that entries get repeated or go missing because the desktop computer will get confused when it is getting conflicting results from either device.
The safest way to sync multiple devices is to always use one as the "master". Only make changes on the master device and let the other devices/computers just read the information off the master.

Dear Gordon,
I am a P900 user. I'm also a Psion 5mx and netBook user and will never abandon them, I think largely for the same reasons as you. I've been running the PsiWin and the P900 synchronisation software (herein "UiqWin") software in parellel. There is never any conflict between the two.
BTW, when backing up the Memory Stick of the P900 I prefer to take it out, put it in the Psion with adapter card and back it up using PsiWin. By doing so all backup files are accessible from the file system, which they are not when using UiqWin.
>Is the P910i software backwards compatible with the 5MX (as if life could be so simple!)?
No it's not, so you cannot use the UiqWin to backup the 5mx. As far as I'm concerned, PsiWin is more powerful than UiqWin. I mentioned access to file system above. Another feature I'm really missing from PsiWin is the ability to integrate the clipboard. With PsiWin you can copy from PC and paste in Psion. With UiqWin you cannot.
Kind regards

You could well be right, assuming that these two conditions are true:
(1) Your phone doesn't have a much better/faster input system; such as the keyboard of a Nokia Communicator.
(2) The cost of buying a dedicated device (like a TomTom) is less than twice the cost of the software-only package; as otherwise it would be cheaper to buy the same software package for the next phone you get (which admittedly assumes that you don't change your phone every 5 minutes).

Subject: Revo > Nokia 9300 questions
Hi all,
Both my mobile and my Revo started failing recently, so last week I chose the obvious substitute - the Nokia 9300. I am very pleased with the phone functions, the bright screen and mobile/PDA integration, rather less so with the small, hard keyboard, but I guess that's the price to be paid for keeping a small form factor.
I am still trying to understand the quirks particular to the system, so I have a few questions for the other digestees with a 9300/9500:
1) Desk - I want to create groups of Document and Sheet files is there any way of creating folders within folders for better organisation? And how can I quickly move files to these folders. Cutting and pasting from File Manager doesn't work, and opening every file and selecting "add to Desk" is simply too laborious. Also, can the files themselves be made visible. I guess I need both File Manager and Desk together rather as the Revo's System screen!
2) Messaging - Is it right that sent e-mails are not synched to and from Outlook by PC Suite? I really want to keep copies of recent messages on the 9300 for easy referral if needed, but if only incoming mail is synched, I only have half the picture!
I could get mails copied from the 9300 to Outlook by bcc'ing to myself, but this is not an elegant solution!
All the e-mails in my inboxes on the 9300 disappear when they are downloaded from the server by the PC. Is there anyway I can keep important e-mails on the 9300, as the "copy" function on the Psions?
Anyway of selecting e-mails and marking them as "read"?
3) Data (or lack thereof) - what's the latest recommendation for a Data and Jotter substitute? I have heard of Ydata and Smallbase, any other alternatives I should consider for importing comma-delimited files from Access?
4) What programs do you suggest as an encrypted database for confidential information or passwords?
5) When writing in Psion Word I rely on macro based cliptext shortcuts using Macro5 or MagicKeys. What can I use on the 9300?
6) Any suggestions on "must have" programs for the 9300/9500?
Thanks, Ciao

Buon giorno, Daniele,
congratulations on the new machine.

I don't know a better solution.
3) Data (or lack thereof) - what's the latest recommendation for a Data and Jotter substitute?
Read Steve's very interesting articles on this matter:
e.g. http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/tips9500.htm
4) What programs do you suggest as an encrypted database for confidential information or passwords?
see the same site. I use the solution, proposed by Steve, i.e. a password protected zip file. I packed all sensitive text files incl. password text in this zip file.

To reply to my own message, we went to an artist supply shop and bought an A4 size sheet of "black" i.e dark grey acetate, cut it to size and slipped it on the screen (the edges tuck behind the frame), now the contrast range is very useful for dim to normally lit domestic rooms, it can be removed altogether for use in the garden (not now as it is very wet) and I suppose it also protects the screen from damage. Touchscreen facilities are unaffected. Simon

Subject: Running PSIWIN 2.3.3 and Software for P910i,
Answer to: Gordon Thompson
Re.: Running PSIWIN 2.3.3 and Software for P910i - Yes, they are compatible with each other. The only problem is that my PC will automatically fire off Psiwin when trying to install a P910 program, but you can solve that with a right click on the .SIS file and than choose the correct program to be used. Otherwise I have no problems and back-up both my phone and my mBook to the same PC. You cannot however use Psiwin for your connection to the P910, but there is no need for same.
Be aware that there ar rumour about the next version coming out around X-mas with UIQ version 3.0 so you might want to wait for that ... or not.
