I must have made about a half of dozen or more request to MobiPocket sales support to purchase version 4.8 so I can register it (but not one respone)

cannot find how to purchase/register v 4.8 for Psion/Epoc
I truly love the product

The purchasing site (
http://www.mobipocket.com/en/Downlo...ReaderStep1.asp ) for v 4.9 does not give me an option for PSION/EPOC version, only symbian/nokia 800act..ect but
on this trial site ( http://www.mobipocket.com/en/Downlo...ReaderStep1.asp ) it gave me Psion/Epoc v 4.8 with all the bells and whistle but I cannot! find on their site how it should be purchase

can anyone provide a way for me to Register this particular version.

Thank You Donald

>>I am currently using the Sony Ericsson K700i. I have been unable to talk to the phone from my Mnetbook<<

I have a SE F500i and have the same problems. The phone will "talk"
to my revo and MC218, swapping contacts and Agenda info, but I just get
"no response from modem" when I try emailing.
Another digesteer reported the same thing with a SE F300i. So it
seems that the modern Sony Ericsson phones just are not compatible with
Psions anymore. Shame.

      To Jon Welford:
For built in emailing on your phone, try the support section on the
sonyericcson website ,put your details in and they will text through the
email settings for you.

Fully agree with this one!  I recently tried MS Outlook for organising my diary, contacts etc simply because it was on the laptop which I tend to use quite a lot anyway for surfing but I soon went back to EPOC's brilliant Agenda - so far ahead of it's time and yet so simple to use.

<Many years ago I tried to install PiBeam onto my S7. Something went wrong (it crashed ) and I have only ever been able to use the stand alone option. Recently I thought I would try again But there was no record of Pibeam in add/ remove and deleting the folder I can see in Apps did not remove it from the control panel. So I reinstalled it over the top and removed it using add /remove. Checked it was gone from the control panel and finally reinstalled it. From control panel I tried to install the driver - and bang it crashes to a light grey screen. Has anyone used PiBeam on an S7 with or without full memory??>

I had exactly the same trouble with PiBeam and never found out why it made my S7 crash when trying to use it.  Sorry that's of little help but at least you know you are not alone!

To all:

As they are so cheap I decided to by a pair of Nokia's PopPort stereo earphones for listening to music on my 9500.  The quality is quite good but they feel rather cheap and tacky.  I suspect I am in no luck here as the PopPort connector limits what can be connected but I would really like to get hold of decent proper headphones to use with the 9500 and was wondering if there are any available using a Bluetooth connection.  I mean proper headphones as opposed to those tiny little earphones.

Also, does anyone know where I can get the Ogg Vorbis plug-in for the Music Player?  I don't really like the Ogg Player and prefer Nokia's own Music Player and would like to use this with the plug-in.  It is listed on Steve Litchfield's 3-Lib site but the link is broken.

1. Chris - I'm sure that you have many friends thinking as you do -
as in:

"Here's a little respite from all that high-tech stuff that this list
concerns itself with nowadays. This isn't about what gadgets to move
to when we jump ship from Psion, and it isn't about high-flying
connectivity issues – it's just about the simple pleasure of
discovering what the basic EPOC machines are capable of. ...  Sorry
to inflict this on all of you – most of you must be at least seven
years ahead of me in adopting computer technology. But there must be
at least a few of you out there who still take pleasure in the simple
Psion things of life."

The Nokia 9500 suggests that a tolerable non-Psion handheld might
appear sometime. But the NetBook/S7 seems to be wholly irreplaceable.

2. Franco - as to PsiXpda and serial ports:  the Keyspan serial-USB
adaptor works very well on my eMac (for using Java Psion Link -
though I now transfer files with wi-fi !). But PsiXpda does seem to
be a bit lacking, Psion Heaven notwithstanding. Oh that our petition
for a NetBook Pro running EPOC had been heeded.

3. Jon - My experience of a few years ago was that PlBeam 1.3 will
crash a Series 7 - and PsiLoc (or whoever it is) confirmed this.
PlBeam 1.1 however works. Since I converted my S7 to a NetBook I
haven't had the courage (or need) to try again, so your mBook info is
interesting.

4.  Keith -  You ask "Is there any way of doing incremental backups
from the C drive to a flash card?"  Answer: Yes, with FastBackup from
Freepoc which I have discovered very recently but which others seem
to have used for ages.

Answer to Keith Clark

On my 5mx I use FastBackup, which makes incremental back ups to a 32mb compact flash card.  Most of my 3rd party applications are on a 256mb card permanently in the 5mx, so I keep the FastBackup software on the 32mb card.  There is still plenty of room for the incrementals.

If you are asking about the type of flash card as used in the 3 series Psions, I don't believe FastBackup is usable on SIBO, and of course that sort of flash card would fill up quickly, as it cannot be overwritten as the more modern compact flash card can.

I hope this helps.  You can find FastBackup at http://www.freepoc.de/software.php.

Re.: Psion Heaven - Totally agree with you, still use my mBook daily for emailing, bookkeeping, bank program and many many other things with great pleasure. The only negative point is that my screen starts to fade somewhat. When I switch it on it is very dimm and slowly comes to light.

Subject: Neuon Gone, "Univers" font corrupted?

1) I headed over to the Neuon website recently to register nArchive (a great little utility for the RAM-challenged, eg. my 8MB Revo) and couldn't help but notice that they're not processing registrations any more. Judging from the tone of their announcement, it doesn't look very hopeful that they might get someone else to undertake it or retract this decision any time soon, either.

Where then does that leave people like myself? I hate to sound like a vulture, but is there a chance of anybody organizing for generic registration codes to be issued free (why yes Mr. Guthrie, I *was* thinking of you)?

2) Recently I did a soft reset of my Revo when the battery level was low (I wanted to re-calibrate the battery gauge) and now all text in "Univers" font shows in Greek letters.

I do have a backup, but don't want to mess with this unless forced to - for starters, I don't know exactly which file is corrupt. What are my options?
